Getting this error when starting the game. I have played the game on this device (Windows 10 laptop) before but I have since bought a new SSD so this is a fresh install as of posting.
Updated graphics card drivers.
No «My Games» folder in documents to be able to find the Terraria files and delete any files from there.

Any help appreciated

They haven’t worked.

CPU is Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6200U CPU @ 2.3GHz
Graphics are Intel(R) HD Graphics 520
Running with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD

How long ago were you able to run Terraria? You have no config.json to even delete right? You don’t have hybrid graphics so that can’t be it.

Lets do a clean install of your graphics drivers, not an update but a clean reinstall. We’ll see if that works. Uninstall using the Control Panel and then reinstall using the Intel HD 520 Installer.

I get this error message when I try and start the game. I’ve searched online for about an hour looking for solutions, but could not find anything that worked. Am I simply out of luck? I don’t know much about the technical side of computers so any help would be much appreciated.

I ran dxdiag to find out my graphics card info, but i’m not sure which info is useful and which isn’t.

Ok, so I believe my graphics card is an Intel(R) HD Graphics card. Does that sound right?

Yep, I figured as much :), this does seem to be happening mostly on integrated graphics adapters

Haver you tried updateing the drivers yet? I suggest this:

— download the latest graphics drivers for your laptop’s model from toshiba’s website

— close steam and anything else that might be running

— run ccleaner and clean your system, run the registry cleaner too

the whole ccleaner thing is optional but I recommend it, it’s quite probable that this will yeld no results so dont be too dishearthened if that happens, the problem might have to be fixed by the dev, could be just poor support for intel hd graphics, XNA is pretty old.

Looking at the Toshiba site for my computer currently, what sort of driver should I be looking for to update? There’s nothing that specifically says graphics.

ah that’s too bad, well I really can’t think of anythign that would help really, perhaps reainstalling directx could work if youare running like windows xp or something, but really you should go to the official forums and post in the support area there, the dev is just one guy and I’m sure it’ll be easier for him to have all the problems cocentrated in one place.

Unfortunately it still does not work, thank you so much for trying to help though. I suppose at this point I’ll message the dev to see if there’s anything that can be done about it.

I am running windows 7 x86 home premium with a Nvidia 7950GT. Even though my video card isnt great, I’m fairly certain I can run this game as I can run more graphically demanding games.

Anyhow, I’d like to play this thing soon so any feedback would be helpful.

every computer has a graphics card, laptops have built in ones, desktops have ones you can swap out for other ones, unless you mean yours broke and didnt get replaced yet D:
if correct shader model 2.0 began around vista os i think, i say this as my XP doesnt have shader 2.0.

could it also be that a specific Xna framework installation isnt installed?
since base components like those are required for a game to run.

checkout the microsoft website for the XNA framework installs.

also unsure if i mentioned this before, direct x relist holds 9.0 and below updates, which are sometimes required, there is also the newer updates they all compile together when installed.

make sure all windows updates are finished.
