Do you agree that nowadays people throw things away too quickly? Why?

If I were asked that question, it would be pretty hard for me to answer definitely. In case if «throw away» should be understood literally as eject or toss out, I’d rather say no, but if the phrase is considered as «get rid of something», I would have load of doubts answering.

To my mind, people doesn’t emit things easily. Talking about food, clothes or gadgets, such things are hard to be thrown away, regardless the time of usage. Most of us are likely to find a way to give them a second chance: to give them relatives, friends, sell by trade exchange services or swap for something useful. People consider some things as a rubbish only when they’re broken and can’t be repaired and used again, only thrown away or recycled. The simple explanation is that it’s uneasy to toss out a good stuff we bought for our own money just because we don’t like or want it anymore. And sometimes it could even lead to hoarding, that is supposed to be a serious disease.

But, as for the second meaning «get rid of things», it is true. Nowadays there are a lot of brands, which announce new products every month, 6 months or year. For example, your iPhone X still works properly, but how can you resist a new iPhone XS Max? New characteristics, technologies, a better sized display. Oh, sounds very temping, doesn’t it? And it can be applied to clothes, cars, food, shoes and etc. The market is oversaturated, and companies make efforts to assure us that their new products are much better, and people buy them, even if old ones are still good. Of course, these things are hard to be thrown away, but likely to be changed by a new perfected model.

To sum up, I would like to say yes, people throw away things too quickly, but the tendency to purchase something new doesn’t mean that things can be easily ejected.

Every year every person in a developed state throws away about 10 kilograms of garbage, and for every resident of our country of Russia there is 100-400 kg of garbage. Experts calculated and found out that if the garbage is not destroyed, that in 10-15 years it will cover our planet with a layer of 5 meters thick. Just imagine the huge amount of stuff people throw away!

At the moment, garbage is considered the number one environmental problem. For example, America’s population and industry throw away more debris than any other country in the world. The obvious solution to this problem is to throw away less debris. It is not to reduce the level of production of all kinds of things, as if there is demand, there will be supply. And learn a culture of consumption.

Nowadays, consumption has become a cult, and has little to do with actually meeting people’s needs. Modern people have been so suppressed by the number of things around us that are in excess around us. Each from everywhere from TV screens and advertising billboards we are offered to buy something new, to replace what we already have: a new supermodel smart phone, and no matter what you bought your own only six months ago, because it is considered that it is already obsolete; a new ultra-thin TV, and I don ‘t care that with your own TV everything is okay, not so bad, but still not a new model; a new coat and dress because your clothes which you bought a couple of months ago have already been out of fashion. Marketing and the media run us, pump out our money, and create a consumption society, instilling in us that we need something new and different.

The basic principle of consumption society is to throw out and replace with a new one. But, if you turn our attention, to how the generation of our grandparents who have caught a shortage of goods in our country treats things, you can see the right attitude to things, more careful; they do not throw out even a broken thing, but try to fix it.

Yes, I agree that currently most people throw things away too quickly. Unfortunately, this is the modern world, and if we want that our future children and grandchildren to live on a clean planet with good ecology, we need to think about the culture of consumption, learn from our grandparents, and first of all start with ourselves.

Nowadays, people have become too quick to throw away their things. Especially quickly people throw away clothes and shoes. At the same time they say that they are tired of these clothes. It is believed that old clothes accumulate a lot of bad energy. And when a person acquires something new, then his life changes. Therefore, psychologists advise more often throw away old things.

People throw away not only old clothes and shoes, but also furniture, dishes, electrical and household appliances. You can’t create something new without completely getting rid of everything old.

In the old days, people threw away old things not so often. This is due to the fact that earlier people listened less to the advice of psychologists. Sometimes a huge amount of junk accumulates in the house, but the hand does not rise to throw it all away.

The true value of things consists of a combination of two factors — attitude and utility. The attitude to a thing usually depends on the way it is acquired. A vivid example is a photo, a CD with a video recording, a book with the author’s autograph specially for you — a part of the history of your life. When things lose their true value, they become junk. In other words, the thing ceases to be useful. The amount of junk in a person’s home always depends on the amount of «internal junk» in their mind. Every third or fourth Russian (27 percent) does not dare to get rid of old clothes, underwear or shoes. Things we «refer» to the cottage or put in the garage «just in case». Some people are very sorry to throw away household appliances and electronics, toys and objects that represent memories. As they say in many articles about fashion, every 5 years you need to get rid of everything. Some things go out of fashion, others empty the shelves of old things, buying new ones. There are situations when before you throw away old things, you start to consider them. Something will seem valuable. You will think about some object that it will still be useful. And some of it will be related to a precious memory. As a result, we don’t throw anything away.

Each item has its own time and place. Any thing will be right only for you, if you need it so much that you do not fall into dependence on it. So I found out that a large number of people still find it difficult to part with their things, whether they are old or unnecessary.
