Human remains found on Seattle beach by TikTok filmers identified
Officials in Seattle have identified the remains of two people found last month by teenagers as they were recording a video for TikTok.
The officials in the US city named the victims as Jessica Lewis, 35, and her boyfriend, Austin Wenner, 27. A homicide investigation has begun.
The two were shot dead, and their bodies then put in bags and dumped.
The teenagers spotted a suitcase containing one of the bags on a beach in west Seattle and alerted police.
The teenagers’ footage was recorded on 19 June and posted the following day on the Tiktok video-sharing platform.
In the video, one girl from the group is seen opening the black suitcase with a stick and then complaining of a terrible smell.
The teens said they had been led to the beach by an app that sends people on a random adventure.
«We’re glad the video is out there. We spoke to the people involved and they corroborated some of the information,» Seattle Police Detective Mark Jamieson was quoted as saying by CNN.
«The kids found bag on beach, it smelled, they called 911. Officers got out there in about an hour-and-a-half, and then officers did further investigation and then discovered that it was probably remains and called the detectives and the Medical Examiner’s Office.»
It is believed the bodies were in the bags for several days before they were discovered.
Neither Ms Lewis nor Mr Wenner had been reported missing.
Ms Lewis’s aunt, Gina Jaschke, later urged anyone with information to come forward.
«They were just nice normal people. Nobody deserves what happened to them,» she told KIRO news.
Police in Seattle have made an appeal for anyone with any information about the deaths to come forward.
2 Teenagers Filming TikTok Video Discovered Wash. Couple’s Remains Stuffed in Suitcases
Police believe Jessica Lewis and Austin Wenner were killed on June 16
A pair of teenage girls filming a TikTok video discovered the remains of a Washington couple stuffed inside suitcases that had washed ashore.
Seattle Police are investigating the fatal shootings of Jessica Lewis, a 36-year-old mother of four from Federal Way, and her boyfriend, Austin Wenner, 27.
Their bodies were discovered June 19, wrapped in garbage bags and stuffed inside suitcases.
The bags were found by teenagers who were filming along the rocky shores of Duwamish Head in West Seattle.
In the footage, one of the girls is seen using a stick to open up one of the bags.
Seattle police have said they believe the video was not staged, and police do not think the two teens are involved in any way.
Police believe Lewis and Wenner were killed on June 16.
Lewis was shot several times, according to police, while Wenner died from a single gunshot wound.
The couple’s relatives have launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise reward money for information leading to the killers.
«Somebody knows something,» Gina Jaschke, Lewis’s aunt, told KING-TV.
«Whether it’s out of their heart they turn somebody in, or out of the cash, it doesn’t matter as long as somebody is held accountable for this,» Jaschke told the station.
The investigation remains active, but police have yet to discuss a potential motive for the killings.

Landlord arrested after harrowing TikTok video shows teens finding couple’s remains in suitcases near Seattle pier
POLICE have arrested the landlord over the killing of a young couple whose bodies were found stuffed into suitcases in Seattle, by teens who were filming a TikTok video.
Michael Dudley was arrested last week on suspicion murdering Austin Wenner and Jessica Lewis, local media King5 reported.
Court documents indicated Dudley was landlord of Wenner, 27, and Lewis, 35, and they got into a dispute over rent, according to the media outlet.
Investigators said that 10 days before the bodies were discovered, neighbors heard yelling and gunshots at Dudley’s home, King5 reported.
Lewis was found to have died on June 16 from multiple gunshot wounds, while Wenner died the following day of a gunshot wound to the torso.
The discovery of the pair’s bodies was made on a Seattle beach by a group of teens who were filming a TikTok video.
The video, which has since gone viral, shows two teenage girls clambering down a rocky shore where they find a black suitcase at the water’s edge.
The teens say they used the Randonautica app, which randomly sent them to the shoreline near the popular tourist attraction Pike’s Place Market.
TikTok user ‘UghHenry’ posted the footage Saturday, writing: “Something traumatic happened that changed my life.
“We found this black suitcase. We were joking that maybe the suitcase would have money.»
The eerie footage shows a girl walking over to the suitcase as a friend in the background yells, “Open it! It stinks, yo!”
The girl is then seen cautiously using a stick to pry open the luggage, which contains a black plastic bag.
«As soon as she opened it the smell was overwhelming,» a caption states.
«By this point we were getting a little scared and nervous.»

After opening the suitcase, a second girl is seen calling police.
A male voice is heard saying «OK so she’s calling the police so we can see if it’s actually a dead body or if it’s just food».
The teens later returned to the beach and filmed police cars at the scene.
GRISLY DISCOVERY
Later that evening the Seattle Police Department confirmed the discovery.
“Detectives are currently investigating after several bags containing human remains were located near the water in the 1100 block of Alki Avenue SW this afternoon,» a news release read.
“Police responded after receiving a call of a suspicious bag on the beach. Another bag was located in the water.
«Once the contents were determined to be remains, detectives responded to begin their investigation.
«Harbor Patrol is assisting on the call, and detectives will work closely with the King County Medical Examiner’s Office as the investigation proceeds. This remains an active and on-going investigation.”
The identity and possible cause of the death of the human remains is unknown.
Residents told local news outlets they were unnerved by the discovery.
