Who can get the ESNcard?

You can get the ESNcard, if you belong to one of the following groups:

1- Erasmus+ programme:

Student mobility can be in any subject area/academic discipline. A study period abroad may include a traineeship abroad (work placement) period as well. This includes Digital Opportunity Traineeships for students and recent graduates to further develop or acquire digital skills.

2- European Solidarity Corps (ESC)

Individuals who enrol in volunteering, traineeship, jobs or local solidarity projects under the framework of European Solidarity Corps.

Mobility project for higher education students under a programme of studies other than the Erasmus+.

4- International undergraduate or postgraduate full degree students

5- ESN Volunteer/Alumni

Any individual who is registered as an active member or alumnus/a at ESN Account

6- Buddy/Mentor/Mobility ambassador

Individuals who contribute to international mobility through:

Improving the welcome phase and the integration of international students;

Developing the internationalisation of local students by promoting intercultural exchange and open-mindedness;

Strengthening student mobility facilities (university and associations) and enable the local stakeholders to develop long-lasting partnerships by providing them with common communication, facilitation and training tools.

I’m not an exchange student, is there a way I can enjoy ESNcard’s benefit?

If you are a student, but you are not taking part in a mobility programme, you can always join our organisation as a volunteer in your local section and help to organise activities or fulfil other administrative and coordinating tasks. ESN volunteers are also members of our organisation with the same rights and advantages.

I am a former exchange student; can I still get the ESNcard?

No, only if you are part of one of the categories mentioned in “Who can get the ESNcard?”

Is there an age limit?

Age is not a condition to get the ESNcard.

Where?

Where can I purchase an ESNcard?

You need to contact the local ESN section from your city or university and check if they distribute the ESNcard. If yes, you can get the ESNcard from them and enjoy its benefits.

Can I buy the ESNcard online?

ESNcards are exclusively distributed by ESN sections. You need to contact the ESN section from your city or university and check if they distribute the ESNcard online.

There is no section in my country. Can I apply for the ESNcard?

No, ESNcards are only distributed in the countries where ESN is present.

I don’t have an ESN section in the city where I’m going. What do I do?

You can try to get an ESNcard by contacting your closest ESN section or the ESN’s national organisation in your receiving country. However, due to legal requirements, obtaining an ESNcard in a different section not registered at your destination university is not always a possibility.

What do I need to make an ESNcard?

You need to visit the local section and bring:

How much does an ESNcard cost?

The cost of membership (and the ESNcard) varies from one ESN section to another depending on the benefits they offer. You should check with the ESN section that corresponds you according to your university of destination..

How long is my ESNcard valid for?

I lost my ESNcard, what can I do?

You need to contact the ESN section which you are a member of, to see how you can get a new one. Once you have a new ESNcard, just go to My Account>Edit and add your new ESNcard number and expiration date to your profile.

My ESNcard has expired, what should I do to reactivate it?

You can always renew your membership in an ESN section, as long as you are still part of one of the categories mentioned in “Who can get the ESNcard?”.

Can I use my ESNcard as a student card?

ESNcards are not valid student cards, which are exclusively supplied by universities. You can benefit from the ESNcard discounts, but ESNcards are not always accepted for regular student discounts.

I bought my ESNcard during my exchange, is it valid in my home country?

The ESNcard is valid for 12 months from the date set in the front side. As long as your ESNcard has not expired, you can use it for all ESNcard discounts in Europe.

What benefits and discounts can I get with my ESNcard?

You can check all discounts on ESNcard.org. Depending on the sections, you can usually take part in ESN events at a reduced price with the ESNcard. Contact your ESN section for more details.

Can my family and friends enjoy the benefits of my ESNcard?

Only ESNcard owners can benefit from ESNcard’s advantages, unless otherwise stated by the ESNcard partner.

Can I take part in ESN events of other sections?

Usually yes, but in some countries/cities this is not possible due to different applicable laws. Please check with the section organising the event/activity.

Why does my online credit card payment fail?

Secure online credit card transactions are processed in real-time on behalf of the ISHS by the authorized merchant payment service provider Ingenico (previously Ogone) using the highest levels of security available on the market.

It should be understood that ISHS has no control over such transaction refusal. Your credit card company would even not disclose to ISHS the exact reason for your transaction to fail.

This means that unfortunately ISHS cannot assist in solving the issue which is strictly a matter between the card issuing credit card company (who refused to authorize the transaction) and the credit card holder (who initiated the process to have the amount of the transaction charged to his/her credit card).

In case of a transaction failure, ISHS recommends to first try using an alternative credit card, or to give it another try with the same credit card again but at a later time. In most cases this would solve the issue.

Do carefully check the card details before confirming the transaction for processing. Also ensure your card is actually a credit card and not just a debit card. ISHS accepts all major credit cards.

Should the transaction continue to fail you might want to get in touch with your credit card company. Your credit card company will be able to check the transaction log for your credit card and help fix the problem. In some cases your credit card company would need to pre-authorize the transaction for you before you can process the transaction online in the ISHS web pages.

Note that ISHS also accepts online payments through PayPal. Alternatively you may want to try using PayPal instead as a means of online payment which is both flexible and easy to use.

In case none of the online payment options would work for you or your administration does not allow you to use your credit card for online payments there is still the alternative to arrange a regular ‘offline’ transfer of money into the ISHS bank account. Wire transfers payments however do create administrative overhead, they require additional time for processing, involve bank charges etc. and should therefore only be considered if other options fail (contact ISHS for details or to request an invoice).

Reset a forgotten Microsoft account password

We recommend following the steps in this order to assist you with resetting your Microsoft account and if that isn’t successful, how to try and recover your account.

Tip: The steps below are for forgotten passwords. If you want to make changes to a known Microsoft account password, see Change your Microsoft account password instead. For help with your updating your password in Windows, see the help articles in the Windows account help.

Reset your password

If the password you typed is incorrect, you’ll see a message that says:

Your account or password is incorrect. If you don’t remember your password, reset it now.

We recommend following the steps below to resolve your password issues. If you already tried this but it didn’t work, move ahead to Step 2: If you can’t reset your password.

1. Select Forgot password?

If the Enter password window is still open select Forgot password?

(Or go directly to Reset password and enter the username name again for the account you’re trying to reset and select Next).

2. Verify your identity

For your protection, Microsoft must verify your identity before you can proceed with resetting your password.

How to verify your identity depends if you previously added security info to your account and if you can still access them. Select from the two options below.

Option 1: You received and can select a verification option

Select which option to send the verification code to.

Option 2: No verification options are given or you can no longer access any of the options

If you don’t see an option for where to send a code or you no longer have access to any of the verification options shown, you won’t be able to reset your password this way.

Try the solutions listed in Step 2: If you can’t reset your password. If those don’t work either, or if you selected I can’t receive a code from this verification page, you’ll begin the account recovery process.

3. Get a verification code

Depending on the contact method you chose, retype the first part of the email address or the last four digits of the phone number hinted at in the previous window.

Select Get code.

Microsoft will send a verification code to the email or phone number you selected.

Go to the recovery phone or email for where you expect to receive the code.

Tip: If you didn’t receive a message, check your junk folder or if you selected the phone option, make sure your phone has service and can receive texts, and verify your phone isn’t set up to block texts from unknown numbers.

4. Enter code and reset password

Paste or type the code you received and select Next.

Type your new password and select Next.

If you successfully reset your password, now is a good time to set a reminder to verify your security contact info, or make changes to it. See Security best practices for more info.
