Yesterday I played Minecraft without problems and closed normally. Today when I tried to open my world (single Player) I got the error:

and then it tells me I should make a backup giving me the options yes or no.

When choosing yes, the screen hangs on «Loading World» (I waited 47 minutes before killing the process) and when choosing no, it quits to the main menu.

I tried a lot of things and in the end I completely uninstalled minecraft and re-installed it fresh. Then reintroducing each mod individually and starting a test world after each mod install. Everything went fine. So I created a new world thinking it was ok. and then I got that same error again.

Below my error log, other log on http://paste.ee/p/kP3fG I hope someone can help me cause I am at a loss.

So i am using Galacticraft started yesterday and i was getting SOME crash errors but nothing serious. But i woke up today got on normally but now when i try to open it, it says:

Forge mod loader detected that the backup level.dat is being used

This may happen due to a bug or corruption, continuing can damage your world beyond repair or lose data/progress

It is recommended you save a copy of your game before continuing

So when i press yes nothing happens. It brings me to the tittle screen and when i try to open the place again it crashes my window.

And when i press no pretty same process. But it doesn’t crash it, it simply makes it non responsive.

I am using a Windows 8 HP, on minecraft version 1.7.10. Any help would be appreciated!

You shouldn’t be getting any crash errors at all. Please post your logs (or crash reports) from yesterday, use Pastebin or Dropbox or Google Drive or similar if they are too large to post easily.

Also make sure you are always using the latest version of Galacticraft (that’s 3.0.5.229 currently)

Probably the world did not save properly yesterday after one of the crashes.

I will happily take a look at the logs, but my guess is you might have to delete this world and start over. That sucks, but you could always use creative mode to quickly give yourself the items you had before.

I get this error when i load my world, and this happened after i updated my modpack,
i tried using older backups of the world but it does the same thing
i posted this on ae2 issues because i checked the crash log and seams to indicate that the problem is with ae2

note: i tried using an older version of ae2 and it’s still not working

Probably the usual world corruption, which seems to plague forge since 1.10 or maybe even earlier.

There might be a small chance that some other mod corrupts essential data, but the only option I can recommend is removing mods until you are left with just AE2 and for this case Botania. To prevent that forge deletes that particular block as it passes tha data of a botania enchanter to a ME controller.
If it still crashes with AE and Botania it’s most likely some corrupted chunk, so an old backup is more or less the best option.

If it a some point it stops crashing, one of the removed mods was probably the one causing it. After that the best idea is to verify it with just that mod + AE/Botania. If so, the best idea is to report it to that particular mod. Worst option could be that 2 (or more) of the coremods together cause it.

Otherwise there is nothing we can really do about it.

I travel a lot so I use my laptop consistently. So, I transfer all of my progress between my laptop and my desktop. The save game I used first on my desktop after update and it’s throwing that error. If I click yes on it, it replaces blocks I’ve places with either air or some random block like stairs. I have attached screenshots. If I revert back to version 1.0.16, everything works just fine on both computers.

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

Client Information
Modpack Version: 1.0.17
Server/LAN/Single Player: SSP
Optifine Installed: Nope
Shaders Enabled: Nope

what blocks from what mods has been removed?

TigerWalts commented Oct 1, 2018 •

I have been dealing with the same issue.

Looking at the level.dat file from before and after updating, a lot of id/index numbers that blocks are registered with have changed, there are 6 more blocks and they would all been assigned ids anew.

You may want to check if this is a known issue with certain Forge versions.

EDIT, this is a likely contender: MinecraftForge/FML#524
It’s from a few years back but it’s related.

The issue appears to be that there are too many blocks:

1.0.17 busts the id limit, this causes an Exception which prevents the id remapping from happening.

There is a curse folder on your computer somewhere. Probably in the my documents folder. Go in there and look for «Instances»folder. In their should a folder named after the modpack. Go into it and find the backup folder. Browse that until you find a file name level.dat for the world that got corrupted. Copy it to the same world folder in saves. See if that helps. Ether way report back.

If you are using the FTB launcher the instance folder will be wherever the install path in the options menu points to.

Backup the world save before making any alterations to it, or even running it again. Then if one thing doesn’t work the backup is there as a undo. Might also be worth a little time with google if you have it to spare. Look up «World Edit» (there should be a thread dedicated to it on the main minecraft forums. In the tools section.) Loading the world in it and immediately saving it might fix the issue.

Keep the computer shutting off to a minimum. The issue is the game is constantly saving. Closing any game while it is saving tends to lead to save file corruption. If the computer is just suddenly powering off that can lead to a lot of other issues. File corruption and hard drive failure being the likeliest ones.

What are the most common causes of sudden PC shutdown for you?

If it is power failure (the hardest one to deal with and fully stop) a uninterruptible power supply is pretty much a must. Not a cheap one either. Cheap ones won’t keep the computer on long enough to shut it down. I was always having problems with power. Strangely enough I don’t notice it as much, could be that it is no longer a issue for my computer. I had a power failure while installing a game. It was a rather large disk install (Dungeons Siege 2 + Broken World). I was on the last install disk when the power cut. I had to completely uninstall it and start over. Without the power failure it was the longest to install game I eve owned.

If it is accidental button presses there are a few options. Reassign the button to something else or disable it, this is even possible with the case power button in Linux. If it is a recessed button place stiff cardboard over it and tape that down. Failing all else, put the button in a less easy to reach area. I had a UPS that my cat would walk over and press the power button on. It would instantly shut the device down. I used a lighter instead of cardboard that time. I stopped buying stuff with the power button on the top like that when I was replacing stuff.

If it is a component failure then their are much worse things to worry about then save file corruption.

If you computer is at least slightly better then a potato, like mine, then running a server along side the single player client helps. Lots of things that crash the client won’t crash the server. I have rarely had a server crash. The client tends to crash (not so much on infinity). The world save is on the server so is a is a lot harder to loose from corruption when the client crashes. Make sure to shut down the server properly though. (save-all and stop typed in the command window does it, I hope)
