«Look What My Sister Dragged In» Kid Vs Kat Lost Episode (Ft. Warlock Boo & Psycho Kat666)

Thunderbolt567: Just wanna ask you guys since you left my house. how do I put this. You guys remember Kid vs. Kat?

Beth10888: Uuh. Who and what now?

Thunderbolt567: You know, the cartoon on Disney XD about a kid fighting an evil alien cat and stuff.

Craig The Mighty: Yeah, I know what your talking about. My little brother watches it on YouTube. Hated that show.

Thunderbolt567: I know right, but that’s not why I’m asking you this. Cause I heard on the internet from a guy by the username «Big_Dipper_To_Pancake_Eater» that the show used to be dark as hell. No joke.

Craig The Mighty: What, what he say?

Thunderbolt567: I don’t remember, but I know I seen it somewhere.

Beth10888: I think I know what your talking about. That show aired in 1999. It was called «Look What My Sister Dragged In».

Craig The Mighty: That show was sick! O.o

Thunderbolt567: I always remember watching it as a kid. My dad was reading the newspapers and my mom was cooking beef stew in the kitchen, and me and my little sister was watching Disney Channel till was saw a bumper of the show. We saw the first season was jolly and action packed. Till Season 2 came. We were watching the show again, but this time. Jesus Christ.

Craig The Mighty: Oh my god, I remembered that episode. Kat had a ray gun, but Coop swiped it away, and Kat wind up getting angry and bit his arm off.

Thunderbolt567: I would like to know that too. And remember the one episode where Coop ran Kat over with a lawnmower in a battle sequence? And Burt nearly knocks Coop out with a beer bottle?

Beth10888: What a complete asshole! I would like to have that guy arrested for child abuse.

Craig The Mighty: He did in one episode where he was caught trying to kill Coop by choking him out. They said he was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Beth10888: *Scoffs* «So long, sicko!» That’s all I could say to him.

Thunderbolt567: But that’s not the worst part. The episode that made us cringe is the episode, «Going Home».

Beth10888: OMG! Are you serious?

Craig The Mighty: I saw that with my mom when I was six, I started crying after seeing that.

Thunderbolt: I saw that scene where Coop hears that his dad was coming home from jail, and Kat was making sure that the house was a mess. But Coop and Kat would go at it, as you would expect. And Coop made the house clean. Then Burt came home, he was drunk. And Coop was expecting a hug from his dad, who has not seen since the last episode he was in. But Burt smiles and says «Thanks son! But, have we checked the bedroom yet?» They go upstairs and into Coop’s bedroom and.

Beth10888: That motherfucker.

Thunderbolt567: Kat just smiles happily as he sees Burt, raping Coop off screen.

Craig The Mighty: Oh my god! O.o

Thunderbolt567: Then Burt whispers in Coop’s ear I think, «You’ve always been a bad boy. Ya filthy little shit. «

Beth10888: Who cusses in a kid’s cartoon? I mean really?!

Craig The Mighty: I couldn’t believe my eyes after watching that rape seen. I just couldn’t. It always been stuck in my head after I first saw it.

Thunderbolt567: I saw the rape scene at my grandma’s house, I just wanted it to end there. But what really got us, was the final episode before it got cancelled.

Thunderbolt567: It just showed Coop sitting in bed for almost an hour in defining silence. Then started crying.

Beth10888: I saw that! It sounded so real, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

Thunderbolt567: I know, and it started to get more fucked up. His hair was falling off, his guts started to rot and his intestines dangled from his stomach. He even cried and spat out blood. Hell, even the whole scene was rotting!

Thunderbolt567: I even saw Coop become a skeleton and he was STILL sobbing like a fool. And to put icing on the cake, during this sequence, I heard a lot of screaming from a man and a woman, maybe from the whole cast.

Beth10888: I was in a loss of words after seeing Coop and the whole entire room rot away, and hearing what I think it was the cast members screaming, crying, and babbling. And that’s all we could hear. Screaming and crying while talking nonsense like: eyeballs in their soup, or giant worms inside their bodies.

Thunderbolt567: And the scary part is, all of the loud screams were real. Something must of happened, and we all couldn’t tell what. I did some research on the episode and what astonished me was, all the cast members died of suicide inside Studio B Productions, and police claimed that the cast members went insane for unknown reasons.

Craig The Mighty: No. Way. O.O

Thunderbolt567: Yep. And the only remaining cast member that didn’t kill herself, was the voice actress that did Dennis Chang. Now she’s doing Spike from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

Beth10888: First off, not a Brony. Second, how can we be sure it was from unknown reasons?

Thunderbolt567: We’ll never know. It’s still a mystery to this very day. Well, I think we’ll be certain that no one will ever bring the show back.

Craig The Mighty: I’m glad that fucked up show is lost forever.

Beth10888: Me too 🙂

Thunderbolt567: I’m going to get a beer. I’ll be right back.

[Thunderbolt567 has left the chat]

Craig The Mighty: Maybe we can study together at home sometime.

Cancellation

On June 4, 2011, YTV and Disney XD announced the cancellation of the series.

Kid vs. Kat creator Rob Boutilier wrote a message on Facebook on August 19, 2011 announcing that there wouldn’t be a third season and that he didn’t have rights to make further episodes.

Hey there, Thank you for your kind words. I didn’t realize until recently that some fans were waiting for some kind of announcement regarding season three. As I’ve said before, I don’t believe there will be one.

There seems to be a misconception that I’m somehow involved in the decision about a third season I have absolutely nothing to do with it. It’s up to YTV and Disney XD if there will be any further episodes, and at this moment there doesn’t seem to be much interest in continuing the series.

That would mean «Kat Went Back» is the series finale, and I’m OK with that. In fact, we were kind of prepared for it. But I realize that some fans weren’t happy with some choices we made in the finale, so I thought I’d offer my thoughts on that:

First, let me explain that we knew before we started writing season two that we’d end it on Kat’s planet. We planned the season so it would build to that big moment, writing episodes throughout the season that dealt with an escalating full-on invasion. The problem for me was that this was also changing the series in a way I wasn’t always comfortable with.

It may be a surprise to some fans, but the stories directly involving Kat’s planet are not my favorites. I prefer what I call the «selfish Kat / selfish Coop» stories basically where Kat/Coop wants something stupid that directly conflicts with everybody else. A good example of this is «Bringin’ The Heat» Kat is simply cold, so he goes to extreme lengths to warm up by magnifying the sun’s rays. This affects Coop not only because it’s uncomfortably hot, but because he doesn’t want to share his dad’s childhood trauma of seeing OLM in a bikini. The story is silly, hilarious, and there’s only the slimmest connection to a larger Kat Invasion story. Another good example is «Never Cry Sheep», where Coop’s prized knitted scarf from Fiona is endangered by Kat’s sudden addiction to playing with wool. We took full advantage of Kat being an alien in that episode, but it had nothing to do with a larger full scale invasion.

By the time we made it back from Kat’s planet, Millie, Lorne and Harley joined Coop, Dennis and Fiona in knowing that Kat is an alien agent scouting earth for an impending invasion. If the series were to continue from that point, I was concerned that it would be harder and harder to tell the kind of simple stories that I liked so much. Stories where it’s mostly just Coop and Kat bashing each other around while everyone else wonders why they dislike each other so much. Stories that wouldn’t involve a larger team of kids tracking Kat’s activities.

The big question I keep hearing is «but why Fiona?!» Well, here’s another surprise: I’m not the biggest fan of Fiona. (I think Phoebe is a much funnier, much more interesting character) I liked what Fiona added to the show and to Coop’s character, but I didn’t think it would be a bad thing to make Coop work a little harder for her attention if the series were to continue. And as I explained to one fan: just because Fiona doesn’t remember Kat is an alien, it doesn’t mean she suddenly dislikes Coop!

That’s all for now. My thanks to everyone who supported Kid vs Kat. We are nominated for three Gemini Awards this month (Best Animated Series, Best Direction in an Animated Series and Best Musical Score in an Animated Series), so keep your fingers crossed! And everybody is invited to follow me on Twitter: https//twitter.com/#!/RobBoots I’ll try to answer all questions in 140 characters or less.

Rob Boutilier. The Big Message, August 19, 2011

The series has since ended with the episode «The Kat Went Back (Parts 1 & 2)».

Rob Boutilier is the Creator and Co-Director of Kid vs Kat. Boutilier went to Vancouver Film School in 1996, as well as the University of King’s College. He is also a employer of DHX Media Vancouver.

Born in 1971 in Halifax County, Nova Scotia, Rob Boutilier was always known for his drawing ability. At Tantallon Jr. High and Sir John A. MacDonald High School Rob contributed cartoons and caricatures to many student newspapers, yearbooks, and similar projects. His friend and fellow cartoonist Andrew Bowers was a student at St. Mary’s University in Halifax, so both artists published work in the SMU Journal for several years. Boutilier didn’t start with aspirations in animation. “All I ever wanted to do was a daily comic strip. I got sidelined to animation because I thought it would be good discipline. After a one-year art program in 1996 following Vancouver film school, Boutilier started storyboarding for AKA Cartoon, working on BBC’s Aaagh! It’s the Mr. Hell Show and Cartoon Network’s famous Ed Edd & Eddy series He was enlisted at Studio B in 2001. “I was a storyboard artist or storyboard supervisor on virtually every project since,” he says.

As for Kid vs Kat, «I created the characters in 2003,” says Boutilier. “After eight years of marriage, my wife and I bought a hairless cat, and I was always amazed by people’s reaction to it – these cats are very alien-like. I had the idea that if this cat was truly evil he’d probably try to do me in at some point, and that’s what the cat is doing to the boy.” They still own the Sphinx cat, and Boutilier notes, «there has never been an attempt on my life to date, but perhaps she’s biding her time.»

Rising Stars of Animation Interview

Rob Boutilier
Creator, Studio B’s Look What My Sister Dragged In

A strange-looking hairless cat is the real-life inspiration behind Rob Boutilier’s new series Look What My Sister Dragged In, which started its life as a Studio B short and now is in development with Canada’s YTV cabler. The show centers on an evil hairless cat who torments a young boy named Coop, whose sister is completely unaware of the feline’s nefarious motives. “I created the characters in 2003,” says Boutilier. “After eight years of marriage, my wife and I bought a hairless cat, and I was always amazed by people’s reaction to it – these cats are very alien-like. I had the idea that if this cat was truly evil he’d probably try to do me in at some point, and that’s what the cat is doing to the boy in the short.”

Boutilier didn’t start with aspirations in animation. “All I ever wanted to do was a daily comic strip. I got sidelined to animation because I thought it would be good discipline.” After a one-year art program in 1996 following Vancouver film school, Boutilier started storyboarding for AKA Cartoon, working on BBC’s Aaagh! It’s the Mr. Hell Show and Cartoon Network’s famous Ed Edd & Eddy series He was enlisted at Studio B in 2001. “I was a storyboard artist or storyboard supervisor on virtually every project since,” he says.

First conceived for Studio B’s in-house development program, B-Hive, Look What My Sister Dragged In has traveled to festivals around the world and was one of the top 15 projects at last year’s MIPCOM Jr. pilots.

“It’s loony in the classic style of old chase cartoons, but it’s becoming much more than that,” says Boutilier. “It’s storyboard-driven, not script-driven. The artists are encouraged to go crazy with their art.” He adds, “I prefer the real simple stories of chaos spinning off something really simple and really silly. That, I think, is good storytelling.”
