In this guide I will show you how you can obtain all of the DLC related achievements without owning any of the DLCs.

We will be using Dedicated Rust server for that purpose. Moreover, you can invite people over to help you out as well (and in general simply play on your own terms).

And yes, private server currently works for getting the achievements if you set it up correctly.
Maybe they will patch it out in the future, but for now it works just fine.

So like said, we will need to host our own server with specific parameters in it for all of this to work. There are plenty of guides already on how to do this, so in case you can host a server, you can skip to the Running the Rust Dedicated Server section.

Note that most of following sections describe the way to host a server on Windows OS (you need to adjust it for Linux/MacOS) and may get a bit technical.

We will need Steam CMD (Steam console client) in order to be able to download all necessary Rust server files.

In order to do that navigate to https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamCMD (or just Google Steam CMD) and hit the download button.

After doing that unpack the steamcmd.exe file somewhere on your PC (so that you know exactly where it is, you can use location suggested by Valve which is C:\steamcmd)

Great, so now that SteamCMD is ready we can download Rust Dedicated Server files.

It might take a while to download all files and in case process is interruped (sometimes steamCMD loses connection with Valve servers) simply use last command again.

In the meantime while SteamCMD is downloading all of the files, You may want to download RustAdmin panel. It is very handy tool for managing your local server, using console commands and other things.

Go to https://www.rustadmin.com/ and select RustAdmin Free, then hit download.

At the very bottom of the RustAdmin panel press Save to save that configuration (provide some name for easy access).

After all of that is done (SteamCMD downloaded all of the files and RustAdmin is ready to be used) we can finally launch our server.

Open the Windows CMD again (same as we did it previously) but this time we need to navigate to our RustServer directory. So type in cd C:\rustserver

Now, we need to launch the RustDedicated.exe, however, we need to specify certain parameters. Use the command below to launch the server (paste it and hit Enter).

Note that it may take couple of minutes for the server to fully start before you can even connect to it.

And we are done.

Now you can open up the Rust game and in the game itself press F1 to bring up the Console.
In the console type client.connect localhost:28015 and wait until you get connected.

After a while you will be connected to your private server which you can even see in RustAdmin console panel.

So now that we are connected to the server, we can start using Rust commands to give us items, spawn objects and in general help us get all DLC achievements without owning the DLCs.

Navigate to console tab in RustAdmn and at the very bottom you can find «Type a command to execture» field. We will be typing there all of the commands.

The biggest confusion to the Rust achievements revolve around the early achievements that don’t seem to trigger. The reason I found for is actually just based on the settings of the server. The achievements were setup as a a tutorial system and then enhanced for other tasks.

These are the achievements that are directly tied to the tutorial. If you join a server and you don’t have these very basic tasks completed, then you can determine if the achievements will work if you see a tutorial at the top left when you join the server.

If you’re hosting your own server, you can enable this by setting the server.official flag to true.

Collect Wood

Wood can be harvested by hitting trees with a harvesting tool such as the spawn rock or various axes. Trees have a red X when you harvest which denotes critical spots to hit to increase efficiency.

Collect 30 Cloth

Cloth can be harvested from dead animals or picking up hemp plants that spawn in the world.

Collect 200 Stone

Stone are giant white boulders that have a shiny glint on it and can be harvested using the spawn rock or various pickaxes.

Similar to the stone achievement, metal ore are similar in shape and size but have a more rusted color.

Acquire 50 Low Grade Fuel

Low grade fuel can be found in red barrels or by crafting using animal fat and cloth. Later on can be crafted using refineries and crude oil.

Destroy 10 Barrels

Barrels are often found in nodes laid across a road.

Save The Planet
Recycle 5 empty cans at a recycler

There are currently two types of cans in the game: cans of beans and cans of tuna. Both are easily found at the abandon supermarket. You’ll want to recycle those empty cans at a recycler which is also available at various monuments including the supermarket.

This achievement is known to be buggy on unlock, so don’t mind if it doesn’t unlock immediately.

Collect 65 Scrap

I won’t include any specific scrap guide as the game is updated and balanced, those numbers will change. In any case, scrap can be obtained in two ways. You can always find them when looting the blue plastic trays with car components in them. Otherwise, you can recycle metal based products to get some good yields of scraps.

The crafting menu is set to Q by default and you can search up items to see what is required to make them. Due to possible changes in the future, I won’t go into what items are particularly needed, but all items can be looked up on Rust Labs: https://rustlabs.com/

This item will allow you to build foundation, walls, roofing, flooring, etc. You cannot build in unusual terrains, ontop of roads, in monuments, or near tool cupboards (TCs) that you are not authorized on.

The hammer is used to upgrade, repair, and remove items you’ve built. Not every item placed can be removed. Base components such as foundation, walls, floors, etc can be demolished using the hammer for a short period of time.

A tool cupboard is the central piece of a base. It blocks off any building with a certain range of a base to prevent people from building to block your base. A base will also consume raw materials to maintain itself over a period of time so the cupboard must be stocked with those raw materials before it begins to start decaying. It also serves as identifiers for turrets that you build.

A research table allows players to take craftable items and create blueprints out of them using scraps. Using a workbench is nice, but there are some items that require a lot of scrap to work through the tech tree to get to.

As the achievement states, simply visit a road. This achievement has a delayed trigger, but as long as you clear the tutorial, you should be fine.

Equip Clothing
Equip 3 pieces of clothing

Works well with the burlap crafting achievements. Craft all the pieces and equip them in your inventory. Otherwise, you can find clothing from crates and boxes.

Kill an Animal
Kill an Animal

Find some wildlife and simply kill it. There are chickens, deer, wolves, and bears.

Skin an Animal
Skin an Animal

After killing the wildlife mentioned above, its corpse will remain. Hit it with any harvest tool until its condition is depleted. Knives are the most efficient.

Giddy Up!
Ride a horse for 1km

With the tech tree update, horses now spawn more commonly. Find one and ride it for a 1km. Alternatively, you can purchase a saddle at a ranch or barn and claim a horse and ride it then.

Glutton
Completely fill your food bar

Near rivers, you can often find a plethora of pumpkins and corn. This will easily fill up your food gauge.

Sealbreaker
Completely fill your hydration bar

Navigate to a river or lake and interact with the water and drink until you’ve filled the water gauge.

Research an Item
Research an Item

You’ll need an item you can’t craft, scraps, and a research table. A research table is craftable and has achievements for both crafting it and placing it. Easy items you can research include a lot of electrical switches and nodes which cost just 20 scraps.

Research tables also spawn in large monuments such as the Outpost, Airfield, Power Plant, etc.

Something of a scientist myself
Kill 5 Scientists

You’ll find scientists randomly wandering around roads, but you can easily find them in specific monuments. The excavator and military tunnel are the two easiest accessible areas where you can farm scientists. Others include the oil rig monuments, but require a boat to get to.

I’m the Captain now
Reach the bridge of the Cargo Ship

Cargo Ship is special monument in the fact that it’s not always available. Time to time, you’ll see a large boat circling the island. You’ll want to have a boat ready or scrap ready to buy a boat so you can drive up the cargo ship when it arrives.

The ship never stops, and you can access it by a ladder on the side of the ship. After that, you’ll want to get to the top of the ship to the bridge.

On The Deck
Land a minicopter on an oil rig Helipad

A minicopter can be purchased from the Bandit Camp for 750 scraps. Then there are two oil rigs, small oil rig and large oil rig. Both have a helipad ontop of it. The best strategy for this is to have someone help you and clear out oil rig so you can land easily.

Note: You do not need the DLC, but you need someone with the DLC to give you the items.

First Notes
Play your first instrument

This achievement is known to not unlock immediately but you can do when you do musical maestro to force the trigger.

Musical Maestro
Play every instrument

The Acoustic Guitar is not a DLC instrument and must be found in the world. The rest can be crafted by anyone with the DLC.

Setup a team and simply have all members have instruments equipped.

Note: You do not need the DLC, but you need someone with the DLC to give you the items.

Paparazzi
Take a photo of another player

Craft the Instant Camera, equip it, and take a picture of another player. For some reason, this only counts for the first picture in the camera so you can’t use the same camera.

Sunglasses at Night
Equip a pair of sunglasses after the sun goes down

Craft some sunglasses. Twitch Sunglasses count for this. When it’s night time, that’s when you need to equip them. Does not trigger if you already have them equipped when night time comes.

Radical
Splash another player with a Water Pistol while that player is irradiated

The target needs to have the Water Gun equipped. The player needs to have the water pistol. Go to an area with radiation and simply shoot the target who is building up radiation while they have the water gun equipped.

Liquidator
Get a kill using a water gun.

See No Pressure.

Soaked
Soak another player above the damage threshold using a water gun.

See No Pressure.

No Pressure
Get a kill with a super soaker pumped at the lowest pressure.

Doing this achievement will always trigger the other two achievements, so it’s best to just do this achievement. Craft two water guns. The target must be wielding a water gun to build up wetness from a water gun and eventually take damage.

Target can be on the same team. Target should not be wearing anything that helps with wetness, naked works well. You can build a campfire and use it to take the target’s hp to low to make this go faster. Get it to 10 or less health.

The water gun lets you build pressure with R, but make sure you never go over 1 pump. Pump once, shoot all of the water until it stops, then repeat that. Once the target goes over the wetness threshold, then they will begin to take damage.

Cool Kids Club
Be in a team where every team member is riding a Boogie Board or Inner Tube (minimum 4 members)

Craft a pool, an Above Ground Pool will fit everyone. Then craft a total of 4 boards/tubes (can be a mix of anything). Fill the pool with water then place the tubes/boards into the pool.

Make sure everyone is in the same team and have the members mount the tubes/board in the pool.

In order to do the 2 dance achievements, the DLC is required.

Bad Neighbour
Use a megaphone while in another player’s Tool Cupboard radius.

The megaphone can be crafted, then simply go to an area with someone else’s Tool Cupboard and use the megaphone and speak into the microphone.

Full Collection
Play an instrument while floating in an Inner Tube while listening to a Boom Box play a radio stream

You can use a small paddling pool, a tube, a boom box, then any instrument. Make sure your boom box is playing a radio stream and not a cassette.

I can no longer see
Stare into a laser light for 30 seconds.

You’ll need a power source, and a laser light. Laser light can be crafted. Ideally, place it on the ground, hook it up with power, then stand on top of it and look down into it.

I should buy this Soundtrack
Listen to the Rust soundtrack from a Boom Box for 30 seconds

Either make a Boom Box or Portable Boom Box and play the Rust Sound Track. It should pop up automatically after 30 seconds.

Like Nobody’s Watching
Dance near a playing Boom Box on an active Disco Floor.

Hook up the boom box with power, then output the audio of the boom box into at least two dance floors. Then hit b to gesture and use one of the 3 dance gestures: Twist, Cabbage Patch, Raise the Roof. The achievement only checks when a new song starts, so just keep dancing.

DLC is required for this achievement.

On the Record
Record another player speaking onto a Cassette.

Craft a cassette player and a cassette. Place the cassette into the player, then right click to start recording. Simply have someone talking nearby while it records.

Party Boat
Dance with 2 other players at the front of the Cargo Ship.

All three players must have the DLC to dance, head to the bow of the ship and everyone can do a dance.

The Zipline and Rail update introduces achievements for past updates from August 2021 til March 2022.

Apex Predator
Kill 3 sharks with a speargun

You can craft a speargun at a level 1 workbench. Then craft a some spears for your speargun. Spears move extremely slow and the speargun can only be used underwater. Each shark will take 2 spears to kill.

Sharks can be found near sunken wrecks or if a player is bleeding in the water.

Buckle Up
Start a fully repaired car with a full set of T3 engine parts

There’s a hidden requirement in that the vehicle must have all of its modular slots filled, using two rear modules will suffice. Then add High Quality Valves, Pistons, Sparkplugs, Carburetor and Crankshaft to the vehicle as well as some low grade fuel. Make sure each part of the vehicle is repaired to max and then start up the car.

It’s Honest Work
Plant a different seed in every slot in a Large Planter Box

Craft a Large Planter Box, then you will need 9 different plants to place in the planter box.

You can obtain a fishing rod through quests at the fishing village, purchased at the fishing village, or crafted.

Waste Not, Want Not
Recycle 10 cars at Junkyard

At the Junkyard monument, there’s a magnet crane that can pickup cars and you can throw cars into the recycler. Simply take 10 vehicles and throw them into the recycler, you can drop the white trucks in the junkyard as well.

Arctic Speed
Acquire a snowmobile in an Artic Research Base

Check your map and confirm that there is an Arctic Base monument in the map. If so, you will need a blue card to open up the large containers, one of which contains the snowmobile. Simply get on the snowmobile for the achievement.

Mission Accomplished
Complete 5 missions for NPC’s

The main two quest givers I leveraged were at the Bandit Camp, the lumberjack has a series of 3 quests: retrieve a bottle of vodka, harvest 2000 wood, and eliminate 3 animals. The other is the fisherman at the fishing village who requests you to find his tackle box, catch 3 fish, and harvest oil for him. Note that you can do these across any servers which means quests can be repeated.

Terror in the Deep
Travel to an underwater lab with a submarine

Check your map and make sure underwater Labs are visible along the edges of the map, similar to the oil rig. If you don’t see it, then the server map was generated without the underwater labs. You can buy a submarine from the fishing villages and simply enter the lab through a moon pool. You must be the driver, and you must have drive it from the surface of the ocean.

Thread the Needle
Land a Minicopter on the Cargo Ship

Couple things here, you do not have to successfully land a minicopter on the cargo ship, you also do not need to be the driver either. Crashing the minicopter on the cargo ship will work if it comes to it.

Heavy Industry
Activate the Excavator

Make sure to bring Diesel Fuel to the Giant Excavator Site. In the middle, place the diesel fuel in the giant tank, then press the button on the machine up the stairs closeby.

On Track
Kill 10 Tunnel Dwellers while on a moving work cart

On the map, there are train station icons which gains access to the tunnels. You will need low grade fuel to operate the work cart. At the bottom, you will be at a tunnel platform and work carts tend to spawn nearby. Once on, simply drive the cart around to other platforms while taking out the tunnel dwellers who are armed and wearing orange suits and gas masks.

Battle Bus
Drive a modular car with 5 passengers

As the description suggests, get a vehicle with two rear passenger modules to add 4 additional seats to a car. Everyone in the vehicle with get the achievement.

Rust Air
Pilot a Scrap Transport Helicopter with 5 passengers

As the description suggests, have 5 other people within the transport heli. Only the person who is flying gets the achievement.

Smooth Sailing
Travel 3KM with a companion in a Kayak

As it says, you’ll need to travel 3KM which takes around 15-20minutes to do. Make sure you both have a paddle and when paddling, just have one person paddle with left and the other paddle with right and you’ll just go straight infinitely.

Big Brother
Watch another player through a CCTV camera

You’ll need a computer station and a CCTV camera with the camera hooked up to power. Give the camera an id then enter that id in the computer station. Then you can view the camera and if you see a player, it should trigger.

Friendly Neighbour
Wave at 5 different players

This is wildly difficult to trigger. But jumping around public servers and heading over to Outpost and Bandit Camp is a viable strategy and then wave at everyone a bunch of times and hope it triggers. They do NOT have to wave back.

Additionally, you can rejoin the server and wave at the same players over and over. Works best if they die in between these waves.

In my tests, a Barren Map hosted server did not allow me trigger any waves. But a Procedural Map hosted server did with the same setting.

Death from Above
Kill another player with the MLRS

MLRS is a vehicle that spawns in the desert. You will need at least 1 MLRS rocket and then an MLRS Aiming Module; both of which can be found in high tier crates. Once you’ve obtained those, head to the desert military base where you can find the MLRS.

Insert rockets in the rear, then enter the vehicle and insert the aiming module right of the screen. In the screen, right click an area to aim, as it finishes aiming, exit the aiming and look at the red button on the right to fire the rockets.

High Roller
Win 3 rounds of poker at Bandit Camp

You will need at least 1 other player to play against you in poker at the Bandit Camp. The other player can just fold until you win 3 times.
