Is «scat» used to describe the droppings of any animal?

I understand that when you see animal droppings in the wilderness, it’s referred to as «scat.» I have heard scat referred to when referencing bear, coyote and mountain lion droppings.

Is this the case for all animals? For example, would you refer to pig or chicken droppings as «scat»?

The Wikipedia article on feces, seems to indicate that scat is used in reference to wild animal droppings only.

Notwithstanding Wikipedia’s article some dictionaries define scat as simply as an animal fecal dropping.

The feces of animals often have special names, for example:

Non-human animals

As bulk material – dung

Cattle

Bulk material – cow dung

Individual droppings – cow pats, meadow muffins, etc.

Deer (and formerly other quarry animals) – fewmets

Wild carnivores – scat

Otter – spraint

Birds (individual) – droppings (also include urine as white crystals of uric acid)

Seabirds or bats (large accumulations) – guano

Herbivorous insects, such as caterpillars and leaf beetles – frass

Earthworms, lugworms etc. – worm castings (feces extruded at ground surface)

Feces when used as fertilizer (usually mixed with animal bedding and urine) – manure

Horses – horse manure, roadapple (before motor vehicles became common, horse droppings were a big part of the rubbish communities needed to clean off roads)

Animal scat in the wild is important in identifying and tracking particular wild animals.

Using scats to identify animals

Becoming familiar with animals scats is the only way to learn to distinguish them, according to National Parks and Wildlife NSW officer Dan Lunney.

«It’s very hard to be a scat expert. The common thing is that you get very good at identifying the scats of one particular animal,» he said.

SCAT: Signaling Collection and Analysis Tool

This application parses diagnostic messages of Qualcomm and Samsung baseband through USB, and generates a stream of GSMTAP packet containing cellular control plane messages.

Only tested in Linux, mostly various versions of Ubuntu. Python 3 is a minimum requirement, and the following external modules are required:

To properly decode GSMTAP packets generated by SCAT, Wireshark 2.6.0 or above is required. For older Wireshark releases, we are providing a Wireshark Lua plugin to extend the GSMTAP dissector. GSMTAP definition used by SCAT is based on libosmocore 0.11.0.

Cellular device must expost the diagnostic port via USB. This is largely device-dependent and we can not give generic solution for all devices. Search the Internet with keyword (your device name) qpst to get the method of exposing the diagnostic port for Qualcomm-based smartphones.

While we recommend using USB directly to access the diagnostics port, if your smartphone’s diagnostic port is accessible via serial port, using it is also possible. The qcserial kernel module do not have the information of diagnostic port of all Qualcomm-based smartphones, and no such module exist for Samsung-based smartphones.

Accessing the baseband diagnostics via USB:

Available model types are following:

-u specifies that we are accessing the diagnostic device via USB.

Accessing the baseband diagnostics via serial port:

Replace /dev/ttyUSB0 to what is your diagnostic device.

By default, SCAT will send packets to 127.0.0.1, control plane packets to UDP port 4729 as GSMTAP, user plane packets to UDP port 47290 as IP.

Exit the application with Ctrl+C.

Long before it introduced its clowder of hellacious big cats, Dodge had the Scat Pack. Originally used in the ‘60s and ‘70s to group-tag a collection of rowdy muscle cars, the Scat Pack moniker has since been revived as a label for trims and options packages for the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger.

In the modern Challenger and Charger lineups, which respectively offer 13 (Challenger) and six (Charger) different trim models for 2020, the Scat Packs occupy the spaces between the R/Ts and the Hellcats. Not too much power, not too little, just right, and at a value price.

When Did the Scat Pack Originate?

The Scat Pack campaign was crafted in 1967 for Dodge’s 1968 lineup. After years in the archives, the Scat Pack returned as an option for the 2014 Dodge Dart, Challenger, and Charger and is still available today as a trim for the Charger and Challenger.

What Is a Scat Pack?

The original Scat Pack consisted of the Charger R/T, Coronet R/T, Dart GTS, and later the Coronet-based Super Bee. With the help of the Ross Roy advertising agency, the name was created as a marketing term and campaign to tout the power and performance credentials of Dodge’s ferocious crew. Entry to the Scat Pack was approved only for cars that could run the standing-start quarter-mile in the 14-second bracket.

The Scat Pack name is allegedly a play on the famed Rat Pack and aimed to foster a sense of community and loyalty. “Scat” is a verb defined as “to go away quickly” or “to move fast.” It has a second definition, too, but we won’t go into that.

Chrysler went all-out with the fixin’s, too. The company created a logo that consisted of a little racing bee with attached wheels, engine parts, a helmet, and goggles. It sounds cute, but this was a serious stamp of coolness on these cars and was later used on pins, patches, and jackets. Many of the advertisements also included the taglines, “Run with the Pack” or “the cars with the Bumblebee stripes,” referring to a stripe graphic worn around the rears of the vehicles, yet another unifier of the Scat Pack.

As part of the campaign, Chrysler also created the “Scat Pack Club,” which directly connected owners and fans, a group that was lovingly referred to as “The Hive.” Members were treated to a newsletter that detailed recent racing activities, featured tuning tips, and provided other fun information for muscle-crazed gearheads to munch on. Chrysler used the Scat Pack marketing campaign through 1971.

The Scat Pack name returned in a debut at the 2013 SEMA show. Three stages of Scat Pack tunes were introduced for the 2014 Dart, Challenger, and Charger, and for 2015, the Scat Pack name became a full-on trim. Today, Scat Pack trims are available on the Charger and Challenger as great value-horsepower options.
