small heads up MO and NMM are on there way out the Gentleman who created MO has joined Nexus Team and creating the next NMM so until that happens we’re just going to have to muttle through.

To each his own not everyone likes MO and not everyone wants have to learn how to deal with a mod manager that decouples the mods from the data folder in (add your game of choice here).

advantage to this you’ll stop getting the errors disadvantage you’ll have to reregister your mods with NMM.

Next obvious fix for this problem would be to install Wryebash and place all of his mods under that and have it keep track of his mods. advantage WB can make bash patches and still allow you to use all the other utilites the way NMM does.

p.s i use a separate drive to run all my game from Steam ergo Skyrim path to directory with the xml files is x:\games\Nexus Mod Manager\Skyrim\install info \*.xml /*.bak

There’s no «decoupling»; MO has a virtual data folder so that nubes who are busy picking their noses (which let’s be honest here, is basically the majority of people) while installing mods don’t fubar their game folder and have to reinstall everything, or have to perform periodic cleanups when they remove a mod that may or may not leave behind stray files that requires nuking the game installation.

all the original poster wants is a solution to his problem not another one with a Mod Manager that has a steaper learning curve.

There’s no «steep» learning curve. I’ve used NMM and MO both; the amount of time it took to learn MO was about the same as NMM if not a little bit more. Unfortunately the UI scares off people and I think they get the impression that it’s more complicated then it really is.

Wait a second here. You’re going to into a few paragraphs talking about how NMM is the best for handling mods, and not to use another one especially one with a steep learning curve, and then you’re going on now about how he should start using Wrye Bash? You do realize Wrye Bash is a mod manager in itself and is a lot more complex then both NMM and MO.

Also it wouldn’t surprise me if the reason why the head developer or whatever it is of MO is moving over to NMM, is because the NMM team were realizing that their utility wasn’t up to fluff with MO and hired him over to squash the competition.

Nexus Mod Manager Problem: Not Setup to work with Skyrim

I am not sure this is the right forum but here we go anyways.

Every-time I try to download a mod using the nexus mod manager I get the Error «Nexus Mod Manager is not setup to work with Skyrim. If Skyrim is installed, rescan for installed games from the Change Game toolbar item»

This window then closes when I click «Ok» and nothing happens.

My mod manager is inside my program files x84 and if i launch from in there the manager client works fine.

This is becoming very frustrating as I cannot find any way to fix this. Please try and give me a hand or if not direct me to the correct forum.

I had a title once, but I forgot what it was.

Have you done what it said to do?

rescan for installed games from the Change Game toolbar item

Here is a link to the video tutorials. http://wiki.nexusmod. Video_Tutorials

It means you got another (probably broken) NMM installation somewhere else on your PC and Windows defaults to that when opening nxm links.

so how do you rescan

I had a similar issue I deleted the config file: «user.config»

which is located in a subfolder below:

It will be in a folder that has the version number of the NMM you are running, such as 0.55.8.0

Hope this helps

Having problems with this. Havent used NMM in awhile, been playing FNV and I only use FOMM with Fallout games. I have no way of scanning for any games.

If you have issues with NMM please post in this section: http://forums.nexusm. ager-open-beta/

Mod Can’t Be Added

Due to the problems that the Nexus Mod Manager is currently experiencing I had to manually download Interesting NPCs. Nothing wrong with that but when I go to manually add the file after downloading it I am told the the file can’t be added and the Mod is labeled as Incomplete. Any help with this would be awesome.

Do not add it manually through the manager.

During Maintenance I recommend using the NMM to go to «Open Game Folder» and take your Manually downloaded file and drop it in the «Data Folder»

THEN go to the Vanilla launcher and find it under «Data Files» then tick the box.

After that the mod is marked as activated, and you are free to launch skyrim through whatever method you use, be it SKSE or anything that launches skyrim.

Good luck, and happy modding!

@ OGMSCOLEPEARSON: that does not work for me, i can add other mods manually without an issue but one mod just does not seem to be allowed, i do not want to go back to manual installing mods, that was a cluster bomb of a mess that i had to clean up, we need more help on this issue please.

Hai I tried dropping my mod in the folder and running it vanilla still no luck any other advice? admins have not done jack s*** i can’t down load anything weather it be manually or not.

Nexus worked perfectly half a year ago now i can’t do anything.

i am having this Problem myself i am premium and can’t even download anything because it just says can’t be added i have no problem adding them to game manually

same problem for me. from NMM 0.61.2 to last 0.63.12, chek id/update, and:

1 various «load error» on NMM startup (mods arent in the «mod tab», but are in the «mod» folder created by NMM. if i delete from this, the load error go away. BUT the file are in the plug in tab (and in the game/virtual folder)

2 try swith to a «vanilla» game (a bakup foldrer, ONLY beth files), reinstall NMM, and i can’t add some file (es Usleep translation). I try to download by NMM, same result.

for now i return to my 0.61.2, but please fix NMM!!

sadly, now with old NMM 0.61.2 i can add form file, or download from nexus, but i can’t istall!!

added usleep, and have a «problem during the installation».

SkyUi, on the other side, work. Added form file, and installed without any roblem..

maybe it’s time to move on MO.

Nexus Mod Manager won’t open.

The same s*** is occurring as well it worked until up too three day’s ago.

I have had the same issue, click, crash, repeat.

Backup NMM, reinstall over existing version.

 Uninstall NMM, reboot, reinstall NMM.

Uninstall NMM, delete vestigial folders manually, reboot, reinstall NMM.

In-place repair install of Windows 10 (If you do this make sure you use the same build installation media as your currently running OS so you will not have to re-install all of you programs, etc..

[ Hint: mount media, open powershell as admin, dism /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:F:\sources\install.wim /index:1) ] (change drive letter from F to what ever your media is mounted as.)

Still click, crash, repeat.

Once I down-graded to the previous version of NMM it’s now loading.

@llewellyn19990112:

I wonder if it may be related to this issue.
https://forums.nexus. allingdeleting/

The only way we were able to find out about «vorbis.acm» was opening up the Windows Event Viewer, on the left pane expanded Windows Log > Application, and find the entry for NMM encountering that error.

@Ascendancy01:

Also, can you upload the tracelog to pastebin.com and post a link to it here?

I am still having a problem I got that previous verzion and it still wont let me. Do i really need nexus mods? Like can i put my mods in fomm or in the data folder?

go into your file explorer and click «this PC» and at the top right of your file explorer window there should be a search bar. Type «black tree» into the search bar. double click on the folder it searches for and then double click on whatever version of NMM you are using. inside should be a file called userconfig. Delete that file. Exit file explorer and try opening NMM once more from any location of your choosing. NMM should start up like normal.

when I try to start NMM I get this message:

Nexus Mod Manager is not setup to work with skyrim. If Skyrim is installed, rescan for installed games from the Change Game toolbar item.

NMM wont even start just get the error message

I just tried your suggestion, when I typed in black tree, I got the, no files found response. NMM shows as installed in programs and features. I listed the things I have tried, which should be the last post in this thread. Any advice you have is welcome. Thank you.

I have the same problem I have uBlock Origin is that a problem

No claim of genius here, but I had installed the zip file into the MEA Folder, and mine also wouldn’t start. After deleting it from that location, I turned off the antivirus app, did all the unblocking mentioned above, and installed the contents of the zip file in a new Desktop folder. Now it works fine (well it works fine for now).

If your situation is the same, this is probably worth trying before some of the other more intricate procedures I’ve read here.

Anyone having issues with NMM not opening again? I have tried every fix throughout this thread and can’t seem to get it working. NMM basically kills itself as soon as I open it. It has located all my games perfectly and has no issues running the mods in game. Unfortunately everytime i launch nmm it kills itself and runs in the background. I have tried:

Nexus Mod Manager is not set up to work with Skyrim. If Skyrim is installed, rescan for installed games from the change games toolbar item.

I want to strangle someone because the error message «Nexus Mod Manager is not set up to work with Skyrim. If Skyrim is installed, rescan for installed games from the change games toolbar item.» keeps popping up whenever I try to download a mod from Nexus with the Mod Manager. I bought the Skyrim Special edition from steam, installed and successfully ran the Nexus Mod Manager, and successfully scanned for the Skyrim Special Edition! But whenever I try to download mods the damned error keeps popping up. But it doesn’t make sense, since Nexus Mod Manager already recognises my Skyrim Special Edition. Pissed. Please help.

One would suspect you’re trying to download mods for old Skyrim when you want to be downloading mods for Skyrim special edition; they are not the same.

I uninstalled NMM to try and fix this problem only to find out it had apparently already been uninstalled, according to my control panel, even though I had it open and it was fully functional

I’m having the same issue. I use Mo2. I’m definitely on the SSE page. I definitely have my Nexus link setup in Mo2. I’m just not sure what could be causing this.

I have the same issue, only I am tryng 2 get skyrim vr modding working. There are no skyrim vr versions out 4 that, so I tried it with a guide to trick the nexus mod manager into thinking that the game I am getting the mods for is skyrim SE.

It should have worked according 2 the guide, but it keeps saying that I have no skyrim SE ini file pleas run skyrim SE be4 installing any mods. I don’t even have skyrim SE, but that shouldn’t matter, I downloaded the ini file, but not sure if its in the right spot, because it still says the same.

Also when I try 2 get mods in anyway by using nmm it says the same thing «nexus mod manager is not set up to work with skyrim. if skyrim is installed rescan. and I don’t even understand what it mean by that or how to 2 it. This is my first time tryng 2 use mods!

I have the same issue as well. Just bought SSE, ran it up until unbound quest completed, then quit to install NMM. It detects SSE and opens NMM properly, but whenever I go to install mods to NMM, it reads the message everyone here is getting. Please help, this is really aggravating.

Please paste the link of a mod that is giving you this message.

I’m having the same problem as well can someone please help me I want to do some modding for my summer vacations.

I want to help, but no one’s answering me. If we don’t know what mods you’re trying to install, then how can we figure out what’s wrong?

The most likely answer was already given in the first two replies, but I’ll repeat it anyway: If you have SSE, then you have to install mods from Skyrim Special Edition Nexus, NOT Skyrim Nexus.

If you really want to install Oldrim mods into SSE (doesn’t always work), then you should download them manually and add them to NMM. Doing that without converting them can cause problems though, so I’d recommend against trying to install Oldrim mods if you’re a beginner.

OP says that they successfully scanned for Skyrim Special Edition, but the error message says «Skyrim»! They’re different games. If your error message actually says «Skyrim Special Edition» then that’s a different problem, and you probably just have to get NMM to detect your games again.

Note: «Skyrim» and «Skyrim Legendary Edition» are the exact same game (LE just comes with all three DLC). NMM never calls it Legendary Edition though.
