Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

Band 8 IELTS essay sample

There are conflicting views about whether people should accept a bad situation or make efforts to improve it. While there are some justifications for accepting certain bad situations, making an attempt to overcome the negatives may be a better solution. This essay will discuss both sides of the argument and express my view / perspective.

On the other hand, people who insist that bad situations should be accepted tend to lack the courage to change their life. For example, many people who stick to a bad job are afraid of quitting. They do not like their job and yet they do not want to quit because they are afraid of the uncertain future. They are worried that they may have to stay jobless for a while and struggle to pay their bills before they can find employment again. Consequently, they accept the bad situation without making an effort to improve it. There are also some bad situations that are beyond our power to improve. For example, there is not much we can do to prevent a serious illness or the untimely death of a dear one. In such situations, coping with the loss or the negative situation is a better idea than brooding over it.

On the other hand, there are certain situations that can be improved if we make an effort. For example, nobody has to suffer in a bad job when better jobs are available on the market. Of course, this might require learning a new skill or acquiring a qualification, but it is worth our while. Likewise, people suffering from poor health can see some visible improvements if they adopt an exercise routine and a healthy diet. Those in toxic relationships can regain their sanity by opting to break up. Obviously, there are several situations that can be improved with a little effort. Hence, the argument that all bad situations should be accepted without complaining does not hold water.

In conclusion, this essay discussed that although people sometimes have reasonable excuses to live in a bad situation, it is beneficial to try to improve adverse circumstances. In my opinion, it is better to try to get out of the negatives.

IELTS Essay Discuss Both Views: Best to accept a bad situation

Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or a shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Шаг первый: перефразируем задание + формулируем 1 аргумент за и 1 аргумент против во вступлении + выдвигаем наше мнение (какую сторону поддерживаем):

It is sometimes argued that when someone is caught in an unfavorable situation such as an unfulfilling job or a permanent lack of finance, an individual should go with a flow and be content with whatever they have. However, there are those who believe that it is a change which is the most preferable course of action in the aforementioned circumstances. I entirely support the latter view because on no account should any human being suffer during their life span. Firstly, this essay will discuss the benefits of a proactive attitude towards life, and secondly, it will analyze assumed satisfaction from yielding to one’s life circumstances.

Шаг 2: поясняем преимущество + пример для подкрепления вашей позиции

On the one hand, backers of improving life situations appeal to the fact that only by working towards a better life, unsatisfactory situations might be recast. This is because any action would break the equilibrium, whether for good or for bad. As a result of making enough favourable changes, the overall life quality would definitely turn to better in the long run. The precedence of proactive attitude over the passive one can be vividly illustrated by a widely known fairytale about two frogs trapped in the jug of cream. They could not jump out of the jar, so one of them refused to do anything and had drowned, while the other moved her legs constantly, which turned cream into butter, letting that frog escape certain death.

Шаг 3: поясняем другую сторону + ослабляем этот аргумент предложением “However, it is clear that…”:

On the other hand, supporters of embracing whatever fate they have based their opinion on the assumption that however dire situation they live in, it is better to be content, since things might have been much worse. The reason for that is that such people do not see the light at the end of the tunnel. As a consequence, fearing to lose whatever little good they have. However, it is crystal clear that in our dog eat dog world if an individual opts out of the change, he will eventually be stripped even of his miserable living conditions and plunged into more heinous ones. For example, there is a caste in India called “untouchables”, who do the most tedious and dirty work or begging in the streets. Since they accept their lot, their lives stay the same for generations, with no chance to be changed.

Шаг 4: делаем вывод о преимуществе (дублируем нашу позицию в заключении)

In conclusion, though many people may vary in their opinions, I am firmly convinced, that trying to change the circumstances in better than accepting them and doing nothing. This is due to the fact that rarely do things transform to better by themselves. 400

According to some people, one should accept unfavourable situations without complaining. Others insist that it is always better to try to improve a negative situation. In my opinion, we do have to accept certain adversities; however, most of the time, it is possible to turn a bad situation around.

On the one hand, some people believe that bad situations cannot be changed and hence they should be accepted. Of course, it is not within our power to change some situations. For example, an unexpected job loss or medical emergency can put a person in financial difficulty. Sometimes, there is nothing that a person can do to improve the situation. For example, if a person becomes handicapped in an accident, it will affect their ability to work and earn a livelihood. In such situations, maybe it is necessary to accept the bad situation without cursing one’s fate.

On the other hand, in my opinion, it is never a bad idea to try to improve a situation. For example, if a person loses their job, they do not have to live in poverty for the rest of their life. In most cases, they only have to learn a new skill to find a better job. Likewise, people who have a bad boss do not have to suffer in silence. If they are bold enough, they can take it as a challenge and find another job elsewhere. In most cases, fear is what forces people to be content with their circumstances. If they are willing to take calculated risks, most negative situations can be improved.

To conclude, certain sections of the society accept bad situations without trying to improve them. However, in my opinion, with a little effort, it is possible to improve any bad situation.

Sample Essay 1

Many people across the globe argue that accepting harsh realities, for example, undesirable jobs or shortage of money, is the best way to go ahead in life. Still, others claim that these conditions are part and parcel of life and can be improved. I strongly agree with the latter perspective.

In some cases, people succumb to affliction and insist that bad situations should be accepted, be it an unsatisfactory profession or lack of money. These people lack the courage to change their life. They believe that good or bad situations occur as part of their fate. For instance, a person doesn’t like his job yet does not want to quit as he’s afraid of the unpredictable future. Consequently, he accepts the situation without making an effort to ameliorate it. As a matter of fact, there are some bad situations which are way beyond our control, such as a serious illness which eventually leads to death. In such cases, we need to cope with the loss rather than brooding over it.

However, a few people claim that certain situations can be refined if we make an attempt. A person can assess their current situation and change it as per their convenience. Suppose a person is unhappy with his current profession. In that case, he must look out for opportunities that will allow him to be happy and help him grow monetarily. Apart from this, the person can also learn new skills, build his resume, and get his desirable job. Thus, if a person is determined to change his lifestyle, he can definitely improve bad situations.

In conclusion, there are people who have baseless excuses to live in a state of a bad situation. But I believe that there’s always a better way to improve our negative circumstances and change our paths in order to have a good future.

Life is not a bed of roses for most people as they have ups and downs. When a person handles these waxes and wanes with strong will power, it makes that individual sturdy. Despite this, many people give up on the adverse situations while others deal with them and emerge a fighter. In this essay, both these attitudes will be discussed in the subsequent paragraphs, ending with my opinion.

As far as the first set of people are concerned, they feel easily dejected when faced with a challenging condition. They blame it on fate and feel that it is the repercussions of the deeds they had done in their previous lives. It is due to the fact that they are not resolute enough to face the obstacle or have become so at home even with the hardship that they become aloof. Sometimes, it is easier to put the blame on something or someone else rather than persevere to change the circumstances. For instance, in case of any health issues or accidents, many people claim that it was meant to be as they are being punished for their sins. They do not realise that it might be the result of their negligence or carelessness. In case of jobs, these individuals grumble that they are being deprived, yet do not take the initiative to protest against it or move on to better opportunities in the fear that they will be victimized or are incapable. So, the fear of the unforeseeable always pushes them back to the hellhole they are in, and they do not take risks.

On the other hand, the second group of people are pretty daring and believe that the key to life is accepting challenges and overcoming them. They do not accredit any force of luck for their plight and work hard to overcome their adversity. They gain an understanding of their predicament and work for its betterment. This helps them to rise from their own ashes like the mythical phoenix. Various examples can be observed in history. After the First World War, Germany was rendered economically and socially incapable. Yet, in the Second World War, it became one of the most formidable opponents the world had ever seen. Similarly, in the Second World War, Japan was almost burnt to the ground, and if one looks at it today, it has become one of the world’s leading developers of technologies. Another popular example is the 16th President of the U.S.A, Abraham Lincoln. Even after being rejected multiple times during various elections, he did not forsake his dream of becoming the President and remained determined. This persistence aided him in fulfilling his goal.

Therefore, in my opinion, one should always fight back or at least do their best to overcome the quagmire. It will not only help them to develop a firmer character but also encourage them to accomplish their goal.
