Band 7.5 IELTS Essay Sample

Man is a social being and no one can exist as an island. While some people hold the view that parents have the responsibility to teach their children to become a good member of the society, others feel that the school is the best place to learn social values. In my opinion, both the parents and the teachers have an indispensable role in shaping the character of their children.

Firstly, parents are the primary teachers and home is the first school where the personality development of children is initiated. From birth to preschool children are under the sole custody of their parents. They imitate the actions of their parents and for this reason it is important for parents to become a good role model for their children. Parents are the best people to teach them the concept of good and bad. When they are taught to make this distinction from a young age, they are unlikely to go astray when they grow up.

However, parents are not the only influence on children. Teachers at school have an equally important role to play in the formation of their character. The school is essentially a microcosm of the universe. Here the children get to interact with other children of different character, personality and family backgrounds. This exposure that they get at school plays a crucial role in the formation of their parents. It is the duty of parents to instil in them the values of discipline and social commitment.

To conclude, parents and teachers both have an equally important role in moulding the character of children. In my opinion, their roles are complementary.

Some people hold the opinion/view that mother and father must impart morale values in their offspring. whereas, others opine that it is educational institutions are the best place to learn social values. As per my opinion, parents are prime responsible for it as early age learning be with person for entire life. Addition to this school is also liable to teach manners to students as children spend most of their time in school.
On the one hand, parents are primary teachers for their toddlers. Any child’s initial learning start from home. They observe family member’s behaviors and inculcate it. When children learn to distinguish between different behavior and manner at early age, it last with them forever and it helps them to become a respectable person in society. For example, Children who start learning any extra curriculum activities at the age of 2years are turns amateur.
On the other hand, teachers are also having equally important role to play in formation of child character because kids spend most of their time in school. Along with academics, ethics and manners should be taught in school. Children are face of any school and how they behave in society helps to build goodwill of that institute. For instance, Teachers have special influence on children, so it is their duty to mould children into better person.

In conclusion, as per my point of view parents and teachers both plays vital role to nurture children and implant ethics and values in them in order to create better individual for society.

This seems band 6 to me.

According to The Buddha, someone’s first teachers are his or her parents. Thus, little kids imitate their parents at home and they learn new things following their father and mother. In order to convay the correct behaviours or life patterns, its parents responsibity. On one hand, parents provide food, clothes, toys etc.. and on the other hand they must fill their offsprings lives with love, care and joyfullness. Furthermore, early childhood is a crucial period of a kids life and western countries has paid more attention on this segment. In this age, kids collect all the good and bad things that they see and because of that early childhood care should be done under special care. As the first place of learning and cognitive activites, parents are playing a major role of kids life. For instance, how to eat properly, how to talk nicely, how to behave etc.. kids are taught by parents and these are imparative when they become adults and while conform with the society.
Furthermore, when a kid turn into 5 or 6, they tend to go to the school and gain the academic knowledge. Moreover, this is the first place that children interact with outside world. They meet new friends with different characteristics and distict qualities. Apart of that, they learn many new educational stuffs. In this case, teachers are the ones who spend the time with children at the school and thus teachers also have a vital role in kid’s life. Teachers, teach them enhance the qualities of life as well as academic skills. Apprently, teachers guide them to fulfil life goals with the accure knowledge.
In conclusion, to be honest, I believe that parents as well as teachers are both play key element of someone’s life and both are imparative while create a good person to the society.

Some people think that parents should teach children how to be good members of society. Others, however, believe that school is the place to learn this. Discuss both these views and give your opinion.

Sample Essay 1

It is undoubtedly true that all parents want their children to become good citizens and there’s a wide belief that parents should teach and instill good behaviour in their children. On the contrary, some people opine that school is the perfect place to learn good manners. In my perception, I firmly believe that parents are more responsible.

On the one hand, the bond between parent and their child is unique that nurtures holistic growth and development. Parents are the primary teachers and home is the first school for the children where they learn to develop their personality. Children are gullible and under the sole custody of parents, so they imitate their parent’s behaviour and imbibe their qualities into them in almost all aspects of their early life. Hence, parents have an undeniable role in teaching concepts of good and evil and moral values to their children.

On the other hand, a group of people vehemently argue that schools should take responsibility for teaching and inculcating good qualities like obedience, honesty, resilience, hard-working, consistency, etc as the Children spend most of their time in school. In addition, teachers have a significant influence on children. They play an equally essential role in moulding the character of a child. Besides teaching academic lessons, the teachers can instill moral and ethical values in children that would help the children in their future lives.

To sum up, I’d conclude that both entities have their unique impact on children. But the schools cannot replace the role and responsibility of parents in making a child become a responsible person as schools deal with a vast number of children and the mindset of every child varies. Also, children are more attached to their parents, so their behaviour reflects their parents.

Sample Essay 2

It is quite true that we continue developing our personalities throughout our lives. However, the young age is rather a crucial time that moulds our characteristics. Some people believe that families define who we are going to become, while others favour the notion that the schools are liable to teach us morality and guide us toward a better future. As far as my perception is concerned, I agree with the former thought. I will be explaining both points of view in the upcoming paragraphs.

Those who believe that school should be the adequate place to educate children so that they can acquire the right attitude in their lives and have decent morality to be good members of the overall society have put their belief in teachers. In a way, teachers offer standard expectations that our society has for people, providing ideas and knowledge with less deviation and less bias from students. It is also necessary for young children to meet other people from varying backgrounds. This helps cultivate diversity and respect for other races.

Concluding this essay, I would say that although there are disputes with views, for me, trying to develop the characteristics of a child until they are ready enough to tackle the world as they go is mainly done by parents. Hence, I believe that our families play an important role and the schools come second.

Sample Essay 3

It is a commonly known fact that our parents are the first individuals to interact and associate with us. Subsequently, they become the most consequential influence in our lives to a point where we adopt their mannerisms and behaviour into our personalities. Thus, the burden of being as cautious as a person can be, and to be veracious at all times has to be borne by the parents since such characteristics are inherently taken on by youngsters.

Finally, I would like to conclude by saying that the youth are the future of our society. That being said, the efforts invested towards nurturing the younger generation should be shared by everyone, although, in my opinion, this duty is heavier on immediate family members.

It is an extensively held credence that parents should be accountable and take the obligation to sharpen the skills of their children so as to make them putative citizens of the society. However, you can simultaneously come across efficacious counter-argument put forth by people regarding the school being the right place to teach the little ones. As far as my opinion is concerned, I subscribe to the proposition that school is the right place to learn civilization and other ethics to live in a reputed society. I shall discuss both the views in the following paragraphs.

More often than not, it is deduced that parents must manoeuvre their children on how society should be dealt with. This is primarily because children play it by the book of their parents than teachers. Also, we have been hearing a lot that parents are always the first teachers. They must take charge of teaching basic qualities, such as honesty, obedience, respect, and alike, considering that these are the qualities that should be taught from an early age. This way, regardless of what children learn from their parents, it stays with them until the end. Therefore, parents should be cautious about teaching responsibilities and moral values to their children. By nature, children mimic their family, especially parents, thus, they must be taught how to perform their duties correctly.

Some people think that parents should teach children

IELTS Essay Topic:

Some people think that parents should teach children how to be good members of the society. Others, however, believe that school is the place to learn this.

Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 250 words.

Model Essay 1:
Many people debate on the issue – who should take responsibility for educating children to become good citizens. Some individuals believe that parents are the first teacher for preparing children to be good community members. However, some others argue that it must be school to teach such issues to children. This is not a trivial question to answer, yet this essay will discuss these both arguments through the following paragraphs.

To begin with, parents are necessarily crucial in determining children’s attitude and behavior that may affect their life in community subsequently. Since family is considered as a small prototype of society, parents should enhance their children’s mentality and behaviours about how to behave when interacting with other people. Parents have a tight bond and better control of their children and that is why they have better possibility to teach the morale and responsibility necessary for being a better member of the society.

On the other hand, school can also be the right place to convey social values in children’s mind since they may meet more people with different characteristics in school. School is not only a place to improve cognitive values, but also to enhance social values and morality of students. For example, when accomplishing a group task, children should be supplied with values of how to gain mutual advantage, achieve the goal, and be cooperative with other students.

All in all, regarding to preparing children to be outstanding and cooperative member of community, both parents and school are demanded to provide insight and values on children either moral, behavioral or direct practice when socializing with parents, peers, and other people.

Sample Essay 2:

It is believed that parents have to take responsibility on educating their kids to fit with their environment and become ideal citizens. However, some individuals argue that the best way to develop their social behavior is by enrolling them in school as children learn this best from their school. This essay will discuss more about these two points of views.

To begin with, most children live and spend their time with their parents. These kids also tend to portray their parents attitude, therefore, the family members should attempt teaching their kids for acting properly and behave to others. In addition, families are the first step for children to be able to socialize with other people. If parents can create convenient environment at home, kids will easily engage with individuals of society. Therefore, parents have rudimentary role on enhancing social competence of their children. Parents, from another point of view, care more for their children and hence the responsibility of upbringing a child in a proper way is their most important responsibility.

On the other hand, school is an influential place on educating children. In school, skilled teachers are available to help young learners for mastering life in society. At the same time, this is helped by school’s curriculum which provides students to experience the real life of society. In fact, the students will learn to communicate with friends, school’s stakeholders, and teachers appropriately. This circumstance may lead them to face the society precisely, in addition to encouraging students from some obstacles which may occur while involving in particular condition.

In conclusion, reliance one side for teaching children might be not a wise decision since both sides address valuable role to help preparing young learners enter in decent society. It would be better if they cooperate to spread convenient circumstance for these children.

IELTS Writing Task 2/ IELTS Essay:

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic:

Some people think that parents should teach children how to be good members of society. Others, however, believe that school is the place to learn this.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Essay Answer 1:
It is a widely held belief that parent should teach the children how to be good members of the society but there is a strong counter-argument amongst sections of people that school is the right place to teach children. However, I am of the opinion that this is a matter to be debated in light of several factors before any conclusion can be drawn.

It is generally believed that parents should guide the children on how to deal with society. This is mainly because children will obey the words of parents rather than the teachers. In many books, we can see that the parents are the first teachers. Parents should teach basic qualities like respect, obedience, honesty. Parents should teach those qualities at an early age so that their children can imbibe these qualities into them. For instance, my uncle’s daughter is just studying 5th class, but she respects the elderly people. Since their parents taught her the qualities which she must inculcate in her.

The education starts at home and the things learned from early childhood become part of someone’s personality and characteristics. Hence, the things kids learn from their parents have a lasting impression on people. So parents should be careful about teaching their kids the moral values and responsibilities to society. Children by nature mimic their family members and thus parents can teach their kids how to be good members of the society by performing their duties correctly. Most children obey their parents more than anyone else and the instructions the parents give thus have better chances to be obeyed by children. Not all parents can spend sufficient time with children because of their ever-increasing business outside of homes and for those students teachers play an important role. Some students listen to the teachers they like and follow their instructions like written laws. Thus teachers can contribute towards teaching the morality and responsibilities to the children.

On the other hand, there are certain groups of people who vehemently contend that school is the right place to learn how to be good members of society. One of the reasons why this view is held is that nowadays children are not having sufficient time to spend with their parents because both of the parents might be employed or they may keep their child in a hostel. In school children will learn the education. The school must also include these qualities as a part of course structure so that the child may follow them.

Thus, it is evident from all discussion that, both the arguments carry equal strength and significance and neither can be refuted outright. I personally subscribe to the proposition that, school is the right place to learn how to be good members of society.

Sample Answer 2:
As society has developed, different people have different opinions about how children should be taught the ways of living so that they can contribute their part and become good members of society. Some people think that parents should be leading from the front and some think that schools are the best place to teach these rules to the children. However, I think that parents should consider this as their responsibility instead of relying on the school to do this job.

Now let us discuss if parents do this job and become successful in carrying out this task. This will not only help their children to live a good life but also teach them the rules and provide them with the guideline how to behave with juniors, respect elders, deal with day to day matters, responding to difficult situations etc., which you cannot expect from the school to teach as school is basically associated with academics. Although they will teach children how to become good members and play their roles in the society, the time, attention, sincerity, and dedication which I think that can be played by the parents only.

Schools mostly teach academic lessons and punctuality to the students. They do not fully focus on moral values a child should learn and practice and in fact, they do not have sufficient scope to do so. Parents, on the other hand, have a good chance to do it. In many cases, the kids mimic the parents and thus the parents can make some examples to teach their kids. The kids mostly look at the teacher as some outsiders who would teach them the academic lesson, not personal values. Parents spent much more time with children than the teachers do. Teachers sometimes do not know the personal choices of students and thus can’t evaluate them perfectly. Not all teachers would take the responsibility to teach the students the responsibilities of a good member of society.

Schools cannot replace the role and responsibility of parents because it deals with a large number of children and each and every child has his/ her own state of mind, understanding level, thinking level and it is not possible for teachers to understand each and every child and teach him/her accordingly but the parents know their children by birth know his likes, dislikes, how he can understand etc. I would like to give my example that my parents always considered first their own role to teach me only academics lessons but also how to live life successfully as they have spent their lives and the mistakes that they have made should not be repeated by me.

In the end, I would like to conclude that parents should be the leading this part of this job and should not expect this role from the school and time will tell that their efforts will not go in vain and will not only help their children but also coming generations.

Essay Answer 3:
In today’s world, socialism and being a member of society is a crucial value in our life. Contributing positively to society is a target for everyone. Some people see that directing children to participate and being a member of the society is something that should be ensured by the parents’ duty, while another camp believes that it is a school’s task. Both sides of this debate will be analysed before drawing a conclusion.

On the one hand, assigning parents to teach their children to be the good members of the society is supported by some people. For example, parents may teach their children and guide them to assist poor people by providing the food prepared by their parents. This example shows how parents may take the lead to guide their children to be positive and valued in society. Therefore, this idea is supported by many. The parents are more close to the children and they can teach their kids the important aspects of being a good member of society. Most of the children mimic their parents’ activities and thus the parents have a greater role in setting good examples for their kids.

On the other hand, many believe that school plays a golden rule in children life. For instance, a school may prepare a campaign to their students to clean certain areas in their city. Such an attitude gives children practical experience in contributing to society. Thus, many argue that it would be better to leave this to the school. The teachers on behalf of the school have a big role to teach the students those responsibilities. Since students listen to their teachers’ suggestion and command, they are more likely to obey the things their teachers would teach. Finally, the curriculum and textbooks can include such topics to increase awareness among the students.

In conclusion, the debate will always remain between both camps for assigning this responsibility. In my opinion, schools should take this task on their shoulders as the children spend most of their daytime there.

Essay Answer 4:
It is considered by some that parents should teach their children about the ways to be good and civilised members of society while others hold the opinion that these values should be taught by the school. However, in my opinion, I believe that parents and school both are equally important to instil moral values, among children, to be a good citizen.

On one hand, parents are the first teachers, and home is the first school where children learn about life lessons. Educating children about love, empathy, kindness, and socially acceptable behaviour is a must at home. In addition, children should be taught to help the needy members of the community because parents know their children well. Hence, they can teach their kids about social responsibilities effectively, which should not be ignored.

On the other hand, school is the place where children are taught skills on various subjects that help to be self-reliant. When children gain education and various skills in school, it will help them in future to become self-dependent. This will also empower them to contribute towards society using their skills. For example, educated children may help to teach alphabets and help to read and write, to illiterate members of the society. Thus, in my opinion, children should be taught to be socially responsible by parents as well as at school. When children get such education of skills, love, and kindness they can grow to become a helpful member of society.

In conclusion, the most effective method to help children to become morally and socially responsible part of a society is to teach them at home and also at school.

Model Answer 5:
In ancient societies, all children did not have access to education and in some parents did not teach to their children how to act. They wanted them to grow up as fast as possible to leave the family nest and go to work to bring money at home. In this period, education was not the core of people interest.

In our modern society, education has become one of the most important tools in countries development. Nowadays, this is not surprising to see a government spend millions of dollars in its educational programs such as creating schools or bringing technological materials. But today, one main question stays on hold. Is it school’s role to teach children how to be good members of society or it is parents role?

First, we will focus on this question and conclude with my own opinion. First of all, we all know that a child spends his/her first three years at home with the family before to enter school. For these three years, the child is already able to learn many things such as language and how to act in a good way. From this moment parents have to teach him how to start speaking and acting in an appropriate way. As a result, once at school, he will know using a good vocabulary and for example, that hitting others classmates is not a good thing to do. Also, once entered at school parents have to continue to teach their child what are the good manners to adopt. For example, if the teachers do not stop to repeat those bad words are banned and absolutely not nice to use and that once gets home, the children hear many of them from his/her parents. He will be completely lost and do not understand what is wrong and what is not. The school has been instituted to teach children how to grow up in a good way, develop their inspirations and start living in a community with other students.

To conclude, I agree that school possesses an important role in children integration. A child is going to reproduce, mimic and repeat his parents’ behaviour first. Sometimes he is even going to choose of his parents as models. Which little girl has never fallen in love with her father and tries to mimic him? I truly believe that school and family have to work together to allow to the child to get the best education.

Model Essay Answer 6:
We have been developing our personality throughout our entire life, yet the crucial time to mould our characteristic could happen at a rather young age. Some believe it is our families that define who we will become while others argue that it is the school’s utmost responsibility to teach us morality and to give us guidance. In my own perception, I am more positive with the former.

The family is the first environment that we immersed ourselves in ever since we were born. The behaviour our parents deliver and the value they convey certainly have a colossal impact on our personality. It is also a vital process for a parent to teach their child the righteous perspective toward society at the very beginning. It is like creating a masterpiece on a pure canvas before it is contaminated.

For people who believe that school should be the right place to educate students into obtaining the correct attitude of their lives and having the decent morality to become a good member of our society, they put their faith in the teachers. Teachers provide standard expectations that our society has for its members, offering knowledge and ideas with less bias and less possibility of deviation from the student. It is also essential for young children to meet other people, their classmates that are from various backgrounds, in order to help cultivate their ability to cherish and respect diversity.

In conclusion, both points of views have their own dispute, yet for me, trying to build a child’s characteristic until they are already studying in schools seems to be a little too slow. Many values could have been buried deep in our mind. Thus, I believe it’s our family that should play the important role for this rather than the school afterwards.
