История создания и смысл песни All Star – Smash Mouth

Слова и музыку сочинил гитарист Грег Кэмп (Greg Camp). В интервью SongFacts.com он рассказывал, как возникла идея написать All Star:

Когда мы гастролировали в поддержку первой пластинки, фанаты еще слали нам письма на бумаге, написанные карандашами, напечатанные на машинке и тому подобное. Мы получали большие пакеты писем от фанатов, брали их с собой в Laundromat [прачечная самообслуживания] и читали их все, ожидая, пока наши вещи высохнут. И 85%-90% писем были от ребят, которых обижали, или которым доставалось от старших братьев за то, что им нравилась Smash Mouth или что-то еще, или за то, как они одевались и так далее. Поэтому мы подумали: «Нам следует написать песню для фанатов».

Основную идею All Star Грег выразил так:
