As expected, it’s absolutely and stupid and childish. However, I wouldn’t go as far as saying that this one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. It’s got some funny bits slipped in here and there and some interesting characters, but the rest of it is just cartoony, goofy humor that’s outdated. If this movie was released in the 90’s or early 2000’s, it might have been enjoyed more when this type of humor was still fresh, but not now. … Expand
Adam Sandler seems to believe that deep down everyone is as silly and childish as he is. That’s why throughout the entire run-time of «That’s My Boy» his character, Donny Burger, ehmm, Berger, sorry (see, Sandler, you’re not the only one who can do a tasteless joke) acts like a human Adam Sandler seems to believe that deep down everyone is as silly and childish as he is. But if life were according to Sandler, depravity would be celebrated. Kids everywhere would have sexual intercourse with their teachers and then feed their offspring candies every breakfast only to have them sick of diabetes in a few years. But Sandler is a down-to-earth guy. This I like about him. Donny Berger is not only an annoying character but he is so incredibly obnoxious, pushing the limit of taste so far that after a while you numb to the experience and can’t help but laugh a bit. just a bit.
Beyond the usual mediocre acting, awkward writing, and so on, this film tries to make Sandler’s character look good in a very weird way. There is not much into justifying his actions, no redemption or anything, but yet again, is everyone else who is at fault. In the end stages he discovers his son’s soon-to-be wife Jamie (Leighton Meester) performing sexual intercourse with her brother. Director Sean Anders thinks that by making Donny reveal such a disturbing act would make him look better than finding her cheating with some random dude.
Between a Vanilla Ice cameo and a James Caan who I have no idea what the hell he is doing in this mess, there is a bit of fun here and there, but overall its just silly and, God, so annoying! … Expand

This should have been Sandler’s last movie — the way that Salo was Pasolini’s.
Substance abuse, sexual deviance, and mental illness form the basis for which Sandler and Anders examine the role of morality, class, and family in our society. Yes, it is sadistic and depraved—we reap what we sow.
More on this another time, but this is without a doubt one of the most significant films of the last decade.

I watched this for my friend, Shelby. I am no longer friends with Shelby.
It’s honestly no more offensive than anything on South Park and actually a lot more clever as damning critique of the moral hypocrisy of the white upper class and rape culture in America. But because it was made by Adam Sandler instead of 2 Right Wing Authoritarian, openly transphobic, contrarian cretins, nobody’s allowed to admit they laughed with it.
