Todd: So, Sarah, what are your plans for the weekend?

Sarah: I have really fun plans this weekend. On Saturday I’m meeting some friends, and we’re going to hike up a nearby mountain. It’s called Mount Tsurumi, and I think it’ll be really fun.

Todd: Oh, cool. How are you getting up the mountain? How are you getting up to the hiking point?

Sarah: We’re going to take the bus probably. So we’ll take a bus until the base of the mountain, and then we can hike to the top. We’ll hike about four or five hours, depending on how much time I spend resting, which is a lot.

Todd: So, who is going with you?

Sarah: I’m meeting three friends, and they’re all English teachers like me. My friend’s names are Hannah, Ben, and Michael.

Todd: Oh, nice. I’m sorry, where are you hiking again?

Sarah: We’re hiking at the mountain called Mount Tsurumi. It’s pretty close to my house, it’s not far. So, I can see it from my window, my bedroom window, and I always think, «Oh, I would love to go to the top of that mountain.» I’m really happy on Saturday to go and hike the mountain. Then, after we reach the top, we take the cable car down the mountain.

Todd: Oh, I see. So you’re hiking up the mountain, and then you’re taking the cable car down?

Sarah: Yes. It’ll probably be six hours in total between hiking, and resting, and cable car back down.

Todd: Oh, wow. What time are you starting?

Sarah: We’re starting at 10 O’Clock. We’re starting at 10 O’Clock so that we can finish at 4 O’Clock and I can still get my children from school. Their school finishes at 5 O’Clock.

Todd: Oh, wow. So you’re really pushing it.

Sarah: Yeah. The timing will be tight, but I think it’ll be okay.

Todd: Cool.

Sarah: How about you Todd, what are you doing on Saturday?

Todd: This weekend I’m not really doing anything. I think I’m just going to stay home, so I’m leaving for Thailand on Thursday. I’m flying out of [inaudible 00:02:19].

Sarah: That sounds really nice.

Todd: Yeah. But actually now that I think of it, I am doing something on Saturday. My friend is having a dinner party, so I’m planning on attending that. That should be fun.

Sarah: Oh, that sounds fun. What time does it start?

Todd: I think it starts at about 8. So, most people will probably be there around 8 O’Clock. I’m not planning on staying that long, so I’m just going to go and make a short appearance and then come back.

Todd: Now, we are teachers, so we have grading to do. Are you doing any work this weekend, are you grading any papers?

Sarah: Yes. I’m grading some papers. My students are handing in their papers tomorrow, and then I’m grading them all day Sunday.

Todd: Yikes.

Sarah: Yeah, so it won’t be exciting, but I think if I work hard, I should be able to finish them.

Todd: Yeah, I’m in the same boat actually, I have lots of papers to grade. And I want them finished, so I think I will do it on Friday night. I’m planning on staying late Friday and just doing it then.

Sarah: Okay.

Todd: I’m not looking forward to it.

Sarah: So you’ll be grading all night on Friday?

Todd: I’ll be grading all night on Friday, I won’t be doing anything fun. But, I’ll be leaving on Sunday, so it’ll be worth it.

Sarah: Okay, have fun, have a good trip.

Todd: You too, enjoy the hike.

Sarah: Thanks.

Комментарий: Возможно у вас возникла сложность в выборе корректного слова во втором предложении. И quite, и pretty означают одно и то же — довольно таки, в целом, в общем-то. Да и используются они в одних и тех же случаях. Однако, есть разница. Если есть необходимость в неопределенном артикле, то со словом quite он ставится после него (He is quite a good doctor), а со словом pretty — перед ним (He is a pretty good doctor). В данном случае мы видим неопределенный артикль, стоящий перед фразой — значит, используем pretty.

Building IKEA furniture all weekend. Not disappointed. I’ve been using a desk chair and paper box as my couch and footstool for a week.

Well tomorrow I’m going meet up with my girlfriends family, her brother, who lives in Stockholm just got a baby girl last friday, so we are all going to see her for the first time.

Otherwise than that, I’m going to work on my sideproject, that is something, there haven’t been a lot of time for, the last few weeks, so I’m looking forwards to pick up where i left off 🙂

Cuddling with my significant other

Well I turned 21 today, so friends are coming over (some having traveled to Chicago from my hometown in Michigan) and we’re getting wasted, going playground-hopping (it’s like a bar-crawl,) and eventually falling asleep watching Spider-Man.

Potentially going to happy hour tonight. Maybe going to a friends party on Saturday. Might do brunch Sunday. I’m a pro at last minute decision making.

Oh, and cleaning around the house because some fellow LayerVault hooligans are coming to visit next week.

I’m taking my 5 year old son to soccer class, working on a side project, and having friends over for dinner.

Heading to Yosemite for hiking and photography. And really really fresh air!

Saturday: Traveling back to my home town for a barbecue and beers for my father-in-law’s birthday. Then maybe beers with old friends.

Sunday: I’ll have the best tacos in the world for breakfast, then heading back home.

For me I SHOULD be working on my portfolio (it’s been sitting there for way too long) and finishing up some freelance, contract and personal projects as I just got laid off. But I am starting to feel sickish so that may end up not happening unfortunately.

I don’t know why I’ve picked Fridays as my cleaning day but thats my plan for the night. Wine and hoovering, yay!

Other than that, I guess wine/beer will happen on saturday as well, perhaps try to learn some HAML/SASS.

My brother has just started up selling some t-shirts and surprise, surprise wants a website. That’s pretty much my weekend.

Wife has book club tonight. I play video games. Tomorrow morning, we head up to the NC mountains for a football game at the university I attended. Tailgate time.

I’m planning to head into Boston and take some photos of my wife in a park and around the city. She’s 16 weeks pregnant and just starting to show so it should be a nice opportunity to capture some photos while shopping for maternity clothes.

I’ll also spend some time on my side project and some probono branding and website work for a single mom starting a business.

Maybe hit up a farmers market before it gets too cold.

Have a drink with my girlfriend and her mother tonight, see my parents for brunch tomorrow and then in the afternoon I’ll probably try and do the train heist scenario on GTA online. Got to try and get 5 stars.

Visiting my brother, which entails travelling across the whole country just to see him! A rather long train journey should give me some time to work on an idea 🙂

On Saturday, heading north to Bellingham with some old college friends to attend another old college roommate’s Halloween party. I’ll be going as a goth skier or crappy ninja or lazy burglar. Whatever people are resonating with at the moment.

On Sunday, I’ll be crushing out some fake responsive homepage screens for a fake company. Some dude wanted to connect on Linkedin. Never met him. Now I’m gonna show him my portfolio. Fun times.

Going on a work retreat with the team. Staying at a great hotel on the beach. Should be a really great weekend.

Sounds like everyone so far has got some fun plans, a lot of side projects getting some attention!

This evening I’m going for a few drinks at my friends new place, tomorrow is the first day off my girlfriend and I have together so will be spending some quality time. Sunday I will visit my Grandad and help him out around the house, Skype with my parents, watch some sports and keeping up my Rails learning.

(разделительные вопросы)
В английском языке существуют специальные окончания вопросов, которые очень важны для поддержания беседы. Они помогают перебросить «мостик» к собеседнику, чтобы тот смог продолжить беседу.

E.g. She is a very good pupil, isn’t she?
(Она очень хорошая ученица, не так ли?)

Правила их употребления.
1. Если в первой части предложения глагол стоит в утвердительной форме, то вторая часть предложения содержит глагол в отрицательной форме, а подлежащее заменяется на соответствующее местоимение.

E.g. My friends are students, aren’t they?

Подобные вопросы называются tag-questions. Главное – научиться выбирать нужные окончания вопросов, которых в английском языке больше, чем в русском, например,
… won’t you? / will you? …doesn’t she? / does she?
… don’t you? / do you? …couldn’t I? / could I? …didn’t we? / did we? …weren’t we? / were we? …wasn’t he? / was he?

Ticket to leave
They are going to play sport,_______________?
Helen will cook dinner,___________________?
You can’t swim._________________________?
She was a good singer,____________________?
You aren’t in the fifth form,________________?
Maggy will be responsible for flowers,________?
His mother is going to buy him a guitar,_______?
