Это издание, как и предыдущее, тоже состоит из двух частей. Однако особенность учебника по Speaking Teen talk в том, что предназначен он в основном для подростков и студентов. Так, авторы подобрали темы, которым интересно было бы обсуждать молодежи: мода, отношения с родителями и сверстниками и т. п.

В каждой книге 20 тематических уроков для развития разговорной речи на английском языке. Тема начинается с текста, поднимающего какой-либо вопрос. В тексте стрелками отмечены полезные выражения, которые следует выучить и употреблять в собственной речи. Тут же даны и определения новых слов на английском языке, постарайтесь понять их до того, как заглянете в англо-русский словарь.

После текста представлены вопросы на понимание прочитанного: постарайтесь ответить на них, не подглядывая в статью и используя при этом только что изученные выражения. Затем следуют вопросы для устного обсуждения и примеры ответов к ним. Как правило, эти примеры довольно короткие, поэтому попробуйте увеличить их, дополните своими собственными фразами.

После вопросов и примеров ответов вам дают еще один небольшой текст по этой же теме, но на этот раз более неоднозначный и заставляющий задуматься. К новому заданию тоже приведены вопросы для обсуждения, но примеров ответов нет. Постарайтесь сформулировать свои ответы самостоятельно, опираясь на шаблоны к предыдущему тексту.

Казалось бы, зачем брать такую книгу, если можно взять обычное аутентичное пособие без непонятных нам венгерских символов. Однако эта книга имеет одно неоспоримое преимущество — она не просто излагает темы для обсуждения, но и подробно описывает, как именно можно отвечать на тот или иной вопрос. Венгерский язык используется в ней по минимуму, поэтому у вас не возникнет никаких трудностей в работе с учебником.

Издание включает 10 крупных тем, которые делятся на более мелкие уроки. В начале каждого урока представлен список из нескольких десятков вопросов для обсуждения. Прочитайте и подумайте, как бы вы отвечали на них. После этого переходите к следующей части юнита, в ней предложены варианты ответов на каждый вопрос. World Book Day was created by UNESCO on 23rd April 1995 as a worldwide celebration of books and reading. It is marked in over 100 countries around the globe. World Book Day changes lives through a love of books and shared reading. The mission is to promote reading for pleasure. If you want to talk about reading books with your students to find out whether reading is trendy or not, here are some ideas for a speaking lesson suitable for Pre-Intermediate learners.

‘The Diary of a Young Girl’ which is also known as ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’, was one of my most favourite books in my childhood. I was so touched by this books and enjoyed it so much that I read it 2-3 times. This book was published from a diary written by a young girl named Anne Frank. My father gave this book as my 11th birthday gift and I read it when I was 11 years old. I have even read it when I grew up and was a student of the college. To my surprise, the book was as appealing and touchy as I found it in my childhood.

The book was adapted from the diary Anne Frank, who was a teenage girl around 13 years old at the time of writing her diary. She originally wrote in Dutch language and later this book was translated into more than 60 languages worldwide. She wrote the diary when she and her family were in hiding for two years during the Nazi occupation of the Netherland during the Second World War.

She has a good relationship with her father and a poor relationship with her mother. She admired her sister’s talent and intelligence and calm nature. She was initially irritated about Peter, a boy of her own age and later on they two became very close. Thus a little girl wrote about the relationship, people’s mentality, perceptions of human, little joys and sadness of life and revealed the suffering of the people due to the war.

Anne dies when she became 15 years old after they were betrayed and found by the Nazi. Sadly she dies only 2 weeks before the British troops liberated the prisoners from the concentration camp. After her death, the diary was bit censored and was published with her father’s permission who was the only survivor from the Nazi camp.

The suffering of the people during the war, the feelings and thoughts of a young girl, her complaints and happiness, her perception of life were so brilliant that it touched my heart. I could not leave the book until I finished it and I was deeply touched to read the thoughts of a young and brilliant girl who was killed at her 15.

Whenever I get time, I try to read books and the ranges vary from profession related books, technical, religious, fiction, classic and contemporary books. The book I would like to describe is a novel called ‘Kane and Abel’ and is written by the famous British writer Jeffrey Archer. Sometimes I read book reviews on the internet and after reading 2/3 books by Jeffrey archer, I tried to get the list of all books by Jeffrey Archer. I found that most of the Jeffrey Archer fans have recommended the book ‘Kane & Abel’. Some people even commented that this is the best book ever written by the same author. I made my mind at this very moment to read this book. After one month or so, I bought the book from a bookstore and started reading it.

The book was first published in 1979 in the United Kingdom and in the USA in 1980. The book was the international success and reached No. 1 position on the New York Times best-selling book list. The storyline started with the birth of two infants named Kane and Abel in the year 1906. One of them was born to a life of prosperity and ease in the USA in a rich family while the other one to a world of hardship and struggle. On different sides of the Globes, they grew up: one shaped by a luxurious upbringing, fine schooling and history he read, the other one who lost his mother at the time of his birth and did not know who his father was, well tempered by war, slavery and history he was part of. The story telling of Jeffrey Archer is magical and enchanting. Most of his story simply mesmerises the readers and for Kane and Abel the attraction worked even more. Every page I turned tempted me to read further. Not for a single moment, I could have stopped thinking about the events and characters of the books and that had a major influence on me. The characters have their own charismatic powers and followed their own paths. One is gold, meritorious while the other one is steel and have forfeited the Dead himself. On their journey in life, they confront each other and became the ultimate adversary of each other. In their relentless battle, both men knew that there could be only one victor- and one vanquished.

Across three generations and around a rapidly changing world, their war rages unchecked, for the love of a dream, the loss of an empire, and the lure of a fortune. Kane became the owner of the largest bank in the USA while Abel came to the USA as a penniless emigrant after the World War I. With intelligence Kane started flourishing the banking business, while Abel made his fortune at last in Hotel business. The first time they confronted each other as a bank owner and a debtor. Though Kane wanted to help Abel regain his business by financing further, but could not do so because of the bank’s board members’ decision. After that, Abel considered Kane as his greatest enemy and sought to destroy Kane. As time passed both had to fight their own fates but the vendetta remained in their hearts. When both men finally grew older, their son and daughter fell in love and got married. They never agreed on the marriage because of their personal hatred of each other. Abel succeeded to buy the bank stocks of Kane’s Bank to hold the power to veto Kane. At the end of the story both confronted each other for the second and last time. After that Kane died and after his death, Abel learned that it was Kane who backed him financially to start his hotel business. The story was told like a magician and is a powerful portrait of a world and two men that a reader would never forget.

Edward Welch cares way too much about what other people think about him.

No really, he does. He says so in his book. That’s why he wrote it. In fact, he found himself needing to go over and over again the principles of his book, When People Are Big and God is Small, that he has written a second time to an audience of 15-25 years of age.

I bought What Do You Think of Me? for the church library because I loved Welch’s book Blame It on the Brain, and thought this title sounded like an issue we all wr Edward Welch cares way too much about what other people think about him.

I bought What Do You Think of Me? for the church library because I loved Welch’s book Blame It on the Brain, and thought this title sounded like an issue we all wrestle with. I remember grabbing it off the shelf last summer, thinking I would read it for myself while sitting in the sun (one of my all-time favorite combinations). Although I was agreeing with Welch, I couldn’t get into the book due to the target audience. Let’s face it, not only am I well over 25, I’m also well-read enough to need a stronger drink.

And then my 10-year–old daughter started getting sucked into 5th grade drama. The girls in her class are way more dramatic than I remember the girls being when my oldest was in 5th grade. Maybe it is because many of them have older sisters and are trying too hard to be older themselves. I don’t know. But my daughter is a pleaser. She wants everyone to get along and she gets tangled in the web of caring way too much about what other people think of her. At first I was thinking that her heart was just way too sweet for all this drama. But as she needed to handle conflict, my husband and I noticed the sinful tendencies rooted in that sugared heart. Zaidee shows some propensities to enable, and she falls apart when someone is upset with her.

That’s when I remembered Welch’s book. I’ve been reading it out loud to both of my daughters—an evening here, an evening there. For me, it’s been such a wonderful bonding time with my girls. I wish I could say the same for them. I have to force them to stop their more important activities to gather in my little Byrdies. But then we cuddle as I read, and the many questions in the book direct our conversations.

The chapters are super-short, making this book ideal for reading aloud to a younger audience. The principles in it are perfect for middle/high school students. The three basic questions that direct the book are:

The first section of What Do You Think of Me? explains our propensity to worship. The problem is that we are worshipping the wrong thing. Welch explains how we seem to be like empty cups, looking to other people to be filled. Encouraging us to take a good look at ourselves, we learn how we are motivated by fear, and how we are controlled by what we fear. He then introduces that right kind of fear for God. Welch has a great way of pointing to Scripture and showing how this matters to the self-consumed, younger crowd. He asks challenging questions along the way. Ultimately, he shows that “When you trust in Jesus rather than your reputation, and you follow him in love and obedience, even when it hurts, then you are truly worshipping” (44).

Welch then has a section for each one of the above questions. I find this format very helpful. With chapters that take the reader to God’s word, these three questions become a discernment tool to put your emotions in check. There’s some great one-liners in the book as well. To introduce the Who Is God? Section, he advises, “When you want to find out how you’ve gotten into a problem, it’s best to start by looking at yourself. When you want to find a way out, it’s best to start with God” (61). Isn’t that a great principle to memorize when it comes to counseling your kids? Or yourself?

And that’s just it. The book was written for too young of an audience for me to stomach reading on my own. But I love reading it with my girls (and a curious 8-year-old boy building with Legos nearby). They act annoyed when I summons them for “reading time,” but 30 seconds into it they are interrupting me with examples.

I’m not going to kid myself or you by thinking Zaidee is now going to be the master of 5th grade drama. But now she has a toolbox of biblical principles to unscrew each situation with. And since I read it with her, I have some familiar terms and questions I can remind her with in counsel. This will be ongoing, and Welch’s three questions serve as a great guide for us to navigate through our relationships with God and one another.

Great book especially for teens. Not advertised as a study guide but has places to write reflections. Here are my 4 favorite concepts:

1. «Peer pressure comes from within you. You want to be accepted and liked. It’s more about what you want than what other people actually say, do, or think.»

2. «The curious thing about turning back to God is that, once you turn, you don’t have to walk for miles to get to the border of God’s kingdom. Geared toward adolescents and young adults. Welch seemed to take a long time to get to the point; but he was building a case. The last quarter of the book was much more pointed and direct, but it made it worth reading, overall.

I’ve read (and liked) much of Welch—but I had a hard time getting into this one. The style was a little off-putting for me. Very chatty, with many rhetorical questions, some that seemed superfluous. The result (for me, probably not for other readers) was that the salient Geared toward adolescents and young adults. Welch seemed to take a long time to get to the point; but he was building a case. «What Do You think of Me? Why Do i Care?», sounds like what we can hear from pre-teens to young adults and in today’s world, they are facing a lot of pressures that are more than just peer pressure, what do they wear, or «Mom and Dad just don’t get it», but seem to be dealing with more mature issues than any other generations has before.

Although I’m not a teenager anymore (except maybe in heart and mind sometimes) and more in the «You’re so not cool, Mom» category, «What Do You think of Me? Why «What Do You think of Me? Why Do i Care?», sounds like what we can hear from pre-teens to young adults and in today’s world, they are facing a lot of pressures that are more than just peer pressure, what do they wear, or «Mom and Dad just don’t get it», but seem to be dealing with more mature issues than any other generations has before.

Although I’m not a teenager anymore (except maybe in heart and mind sometimes) and more in the «You’re so not cool, Mom» category, «What Do You think of Me? Why Do i Care?» really impressed me in the connection that it does make with pre-teens to young adults (the 17-college age)who are finding themselves, probrably thinking. how do they balance their walk with God while dealing with the pressures that the world can and does bring.

«What Do You think of Me? Why Do i Care?», doesn’t talk down to them, talks on their level and provides the pre-teen to young adult crowd, with not only down to earth, solutions and ways to work through the issues that are bothering them, but provides strong Scriptural backgrounds, that, always with prayer, would encourage them to try and look at things with a different perspective and one that will glorify, our Father in Heaven.

For parents who maybe struggling with, how to connect with their kids and let them know,»What Do You think of Me? Why Do i Care?», this book really appears to help provide, one avenue to help with discussions that might be bothering their pre-teen or young adult with dealing with whatever it is that might be bothering them.

This is a great book to open up conversations, and open up a bridge to connect with the kids and really more for the pre-teen to young adult age to figure out, «What Do You think of Me? Why Do i Care?».

Decent book, though brief. It is written to the high school/college demographic, so adult readers may find it light in spots. Everyone has some measure of care for what others think about them, even the pretenders. Welch puts his finger on the heart of the problem and identifies it well in its different manifestations.

The problem is within and the solution is without. The solution side is what left me really wanting more, more development of thought. I appreciated his treatment of the fear of G Decent book, though brief. It is written to the high school/college demographic, so adult readers may find it light in spots. Everyone has some measure of care for what others think about them, even the pretenders. Welch puts his finger on the heart of the problem and identifies it well in its different manifestations.

The problem is within and the solution is without. The solution side is what left me really wanting more, more development of thought. I appreciated his treatment of the fear of God, what it is and how it is misplaced. I just wanted a lot more of it.

Excellent focus for every young adult trying to find their way. I recommend every teen read this. Prepare to change!

Unlike all of the other books I’ve read by Ed Welch, this book is specifically written to a young audience (15-25 year olds according to his introduction). The tone and style of the book definitely felt young to me (I’m in my early 30s) and I, personally, found it kind of distracting.

It’s written very casually with lots of rhetorical questions and invitations to respond throughout the book. In fact, the author encourages the reader to make notes in the spaces provided so that it feels more like Unlike all of the other books I’ve read by Ed Welch, this book is specifically written to a young audience (15-25 year olds according to his introduction). The tone and style of the book definitely felt young to me (I’m in my early 30s) and I, personally, found it kind of distracting.

The book seeks to help the reader answer three questions: Who am I? Who is God? Who are others? The author writes that our thoughts and emotions have a great impact on how we answer these questions and that our desire to be loved, respected, admired, etc. by others creates unhealthy, mistaken views on all three of these questions.

Though the material is helpful and covers a pretty good amount of territory, it was a little repetitive (on purpose, I think, for the intended audience) and basic. Nonetheless, there were several things I took away from this book. My favorites were:

1. That our hearts are usually answering the above questions in many different ways. Though we might know (and believe) the «right» answers, we simultaneously live under the influence of several wrong answers. Our emotions help us track what we love (what causes us to feel excited, sad, angry, etc.).

2. It was good to be reminded that «We can be saying things about God and to God and not even know it.» The way we live indicates how we feel about God whether or not we consciously admit it. All of our earthy problems will stop at some point, «but if you are not forgiven, your problems will never end.» Being in a right relationship with God is what is most important.

3. We often split our allegiances to «cover our bases.» We try to get everything we want by worshipping God sometimes and worshipping other things other times. Welch writes, «You’re hoping that, if you worship it correctly, the idol will give you what you want.» When we truly realize how much of the time our allegiances are split, we understand how often we need God’s forgiveness. He becomes constantly relevant and so our thankfulness to him should be constant as well. Faith isn’t about the unknown, it’s about choosing sides.

4. We expect God to act like a mostly decent person, but because he is holy «You rebel, he pursues; you act like he doesn’t exist, he forgives you; you think he is not good, he patiently shows his goodness to you until you see that he is good and loves you.» No matter how far we stray from God, when we turn around he is always RIGHT THERE, because he has been pursuing us the whole time we have been running. «Just turn to God. Pay more attention to God than to how bad you might feel.»

5. What helps us not be controlled by the opinions of others (and not think of ourselves so much) is focusing on something (someONE) bigger and greater. Always seek to be surprised by the goodness of God. «When you have hung out in the throne room of the Holy King, you aren’t as easily dominated by mere humans who are just like you.» Like Moses’ encounter with the burning bush, our goal is to «walk through life with our shoes off» because of God’s holiness.

6. Knowing God and his love for us helps us want to love others more than we want to be loved by others. Jesus is the ultimate example of this and as he gets bigger in your eyes the opinions of others matter less. «The problem has been that you wanted something from other people more than you wanted something for other people. You loved yourself more than you loved them.» The author invites us to live as as though it’s everyone else’s birthday because when we have «been given preferential treatment by the King himself. it becomes a small thing to put others before of yourself.»

7. Scripture shows us how to answer these questions so that we can live the way we were intended to live. We are freed to live as «real human beings» according to God’s design.
