I’m in the 9 th grade.

There are 4 school holidays. We have school holidays every season.

What school holidays do you like best of all?

I love my summer holidays most of all. We have almost 3 months for the things we love to do.

Why do most teenagers enjoy school holidays so much?

Most teenagers enjoy school holidays because during a busy school year it’s difficult to find time for our hobbies. Also, we need some time to do nothing.

What do you usually do during your summer holidays?

I go to the camp for two weeks every summer. Also, we often travel during my summer holidays.

Do you think it is a good idea for a teenager to take a part-time job during the summer holidays? Why?

I think it’s not a very good idea to do part-time job during summer holidays. Teenagers want to have a rest and to enjoy their free time. Holidays are for pleasure but not for work when you’re a teenager.

We kindly ask you to take part in our survey.

We need to find out how teenagers feel about holidays and special days.

Please answer 6 questions. The survey is anonymous – you don’t have to give your name.

So, let’s get started.

What is your favorite season? Why do you like it?

My favorite season is summer. We’ve got the longest school holidays and a lot of free time.

There are a lot of different holidays during the year. What holidays are the most popular in Russia?

Of course, New Year is the most popular holiday in Russia. We all celebrate it!

What is your favorite holiday? Why do you like it?

I also like New Year. It’s a holiday with a very special mood. We all give and get presents (and believe in miracles).

How do you usually celebrate your favorite holiday?

I usually celebrate it with my family at home. We have a festive dinner with delicious food. We talk, dance and have a lot of fun.

What season is the best for visiting the place where you live? Why?

I think that it’s a good idea to visit my city/town/village at the end of May or in September. It’s not too hot or cold (and my city/town/village is the most beautiful in these parts of the year).

What would you recommend to a person who has got a present she or he doesn’t need?

I would recommend to this person to be grateful for the present. If he doesn’t like it at all, he should find another person (who will be glad to have this thing) and give it to him. (This present might be useful for somebody else).

What do you usually do during your holidays

You are going to give a talk about holidays. You will have to start in 1,5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes (10-12 sentences). Remember to say:

— which holiday you like best;

— what modern teenagers usually do in summer;

— why some people prefer to travel during their holiday;

— what your idea of an ideal holiday is.

You have to talk continuously.

Russian students have 4 holidays a year. Autumn and spring holidays are very short, but winters are a little longer and usually connected with the New Year celebration. Summer holidays are the longest. They are my favourite, as they last three months. I have a lot of free time and can do various things. I sometimes prefer travelling and going on excursions with my friends.

There are a lot of things modern teenagers usually do in summer. The majority of my friends travel with their families, visiting the places of interest and having a chance to learn a lot of new things and people.

I know that travelling is one of the most wonderful ways of spending your free time. People do it not only for a change, but also for educational purposes.

However, some people prefer staying at home and find different ways of entertainment. My friends also like to sit on the coach at home and watch films. By the end of our summer they can talk about a huge amount of films and TV series.

My ideal holiday can seem quite unusual. I like to spend my summer at my grandparents, where I can go to the forest, pick mushrooms and berries, go swimming in the lake. I feel happy when I can spend my holiday in the country and enjoy the fresh air.
