Понимание гендерной идентичности: гендерная идентичность рассматривается как перформанс, как выбор, как игра; имеется возможность любого самоопределения вне бинарной рамки. Широко используется самоопределение «небинарная трансгендерность», активно применяется самоопределение
«квир» (а также «гендерквир»), позволяющее уйти от необходимости определять свою гендерную идентичность по заданным параметрам.
Понимание сексуальной идентичности: она также рассматривается как перформанс, как выбор, как изменяемая характеристика; можно идентифицировать себя любым образом с любыми наименованиями (в том числе предыдущего уровня, в том числе самостоятельно придуманными), можно также обозначать себя как «квир» без необходимости самоопределяться в соответствии с любыми рамками и ограничениями.
Представление о семье: расширяется практически до безграничных размеров. Семья отделяется от брака, происходит активная феминистская критика брака как института патриархата. Активно обсуждаются и практикуются полиаморные отношения, немоногамные союзы. Наличие вспомогательных репродуктивных практик расширяет возможности рождения детей в однополых семьях, трансгендерными людьми и в других случаях.
Способ мыслить: квир. Квир становится не только самоопределением, означающим отсутствие самоопределения, но и способом мышления и осмысления реальности. Мы перестаем верить, что социальная и психическая реальность устроены по каким-то общим образцам и рассматриваем все как вариации. Происходит отказ от «подгонки под норму» и критика самой идеи наличия общей нормы.
Отношение к новым знаниям о поле, гендере, сексуальности: открытое. Отсутствуют запретные области исследований, информация научных исследований становится основой жизненных практик и наоборот.
Используемые термины и слова: одной из отличительных черт квир-дискурса является постоянное рождение новых терминов, определяющих группы и идентичности. Все термины предыдущих дискурсов также возможны, поскольку квир-дискурс не исключает предыдущие, а включает их как опции.
