Modern life is very chaotic and stressful. That’s why we should keep to a healthy lifestyle in order not to get depressed and not to feel bad. A healthy lifestyle consists of active mode of life, healthy diet, avoiding stress and absence of bad habits.

If you are active, you feel better. You may go to a gym or a swimming pool, do some other sport or simply walk more. Sport is a good way to reduce stress and improve your state of health. It is also possible to exercise or walk with someone. If you train with friends, you will enjoy yourself even more.

A diet is also very important. You should eat regularly and choose fresh and healthy food. It is essential to eat enough fruit, vegetables, and meat. Don’t eat too much sugar or consume sweet fizzy drinks. Sugar affects your heart and can’t fill you for a long time.

Finally, you should try to avoid stress or at least take it easy and don’t be too nervous. Nervousness has a negative impact on our health and causes many diseases. So do the bad habits. Smoking and drinking too much alcohol can be very harmful.

Thus, it is not so difficult to lead a healthy life. It may become your good habit. As soon as you improve your quality of life, regulate your diet and physical exercises, you will see good results and feel yourself much better. «Healthy mind in a healthy body», says a proverb. And I must admit that I couldn’t agree more! I’d like even to pаrаphrase this statement to “When you’re healthy, you’re happy’. Now I’ll try to explain my idea.

To begin with, I’d say that only when we feel well and good, we have energy and desire to live, work and study. We need to feel well. It means physical wellbeing when there’re no any deceases or illnesses. As for me, I think that the most important thing about physical health is a well-thought-out diet.

We are what we eat. I realize that everything I eat influence my physical state. So I try to make my diet well-balanced and full of nutrients. For example, I eat grains and cereal, a lot of vegetables, lean meat, fish, some fruit, nuts and other food products that are healthy. They contain a lot of protein, carbs and a necessary amount of fats. So you can guess that I seldom buy fast-food because it’s full of artificial flavourings and colours, unhealthy carbs and fats.

Unfortunately, I’m not a person that loves sports or other physical activities. That’s why I pay so much attention to a healthy diet. To my mind, if you can’t do sport, you should do anything else to compensate the harm. What I can do is to walk. Walking is good for our heart and it’s also a kind of exercising. So I walk everywhere: to school, to my music classes, to the shops and so on. I never use public transport if I have enough time. And when I have no time instead of a bus I use my bike. I believe it’s more eco-friendly and health-conscious. So I call it a “win-win” solution.

What is more, I tend to care about my mental health. I love communicating with people, I try to avoid conflicts, I find time for doing something I really love (for example, listening and playing music, making models of rare cars, walking my dog, watching good films and so on). All these give me pleasant emotions, helps to relax and chill out. I’m sure that we need to find a way to relax because it’s an important part of mental well-being.

The phrase ‘healthy lifestyle’ is an abbreviated definition of what it looks like to live a vibrant, active life with a healthy body and healthy mind. Creating a healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to mean drastic changes. Making small gradual changes to your daily routine can have a big impact.

What Is a Healthy Lifestyle?

You know the obvious behaviors that describe someone who is healthy and takes care of themselves. In general, a healthy person doesn’t smoke, tries to maintain a healthy weight, eats nutritious foods, and exercises regularly.

Then there are other elements to add to the list. A healthy person also knows how to manage stress, gets good quality sleep each night, doesn’t drink too much, doesn’t sit too much—basically, does everything in moderation all the time. When you look at everything that could possibly go into a healthy lifestyle, you can see just how hard all of those things are in our current world.

The good news is, you don’t have to change everything at the same time. In fact, the trick to healthy living is making small changes—taking more steps each day, adding fruit to your cereal, having an extra glass of water, or saying no to that second helping of buttery mashed potatoes. One thing you can do right now to make your lifestyle healthier is to move more.

Benefits of Physical Activity

You know you need to exercise, but there are many excuses not to do it. You’re too busy, don’t know where to start, you’re not motivated or you’re afraid you’ll injure yourself. Maybe you think exercise has to be really hard or it isn’t good enough.

It’s great if you can spend time exercising—meaning you’re sweating, working in your target heart rate zone, or doing something to strengthen your body. But it doesn’t always have to be that way. Moderate activities like chores, gardening and walking can make a difference. 

Whatever definition you have about what exercise is or isn’t, the bottom line is that exercise is movement. Whether it’s walking around the block or running a marathon, that movement is exercise and every time you move more than you normally do, it counts.

In fact, you don’t even have to have a goal to lose weight, especially if you have trouble sticking to a program. Why not focus on being healthy to start and not worry about the weight loss because as you move more, you may find that you start losing some additional weight too.

I and many others are promoting the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle, but what does that actually mean?

In general, most would agree that a healthy person doesn’t smoke, is at a healthy weight, eats a balanced healthy diet, thinks positively, feels relaxed, exercises regularly, has good relationships, and benefits from a good life balance.

Maybe I should start by trying to look at a few definitions for the word – lifestyle.

A definition in The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language says: “A way of life or style of living that reflects the attitudes and values of a person or group”.

A final definition of lifestyle is: “The aggregation of decisions by individuals which affect their health, and over which they more or less have control”.
