What’s Really Happening In Ukraine: Russia Is Winning

The NY Times Suggests That “Winning” Might Not Be A Realistic Aim For Ukraine

A little less than a week ago the editorial board of the New York Times posted an article that essentially calls for Ukraine and US-NATO forces to begin moving toward a compromise with Russia, toward a shift in their objectives regarding the outcome of the war.(1) The piece points out that the idea of Ukraine “winning” the war with Russia might be an unrealistic goal and that it would be to the advantage of both Ukraine and US-NATO forces to be open to moving toward some sort of settlement.

The UK Press Concurs

Around the same time, about three days ago, similar articles started surfacing across the pond in some of the UK’s mainstream news publications. On May 23 rd The London Times featured an article by Matt Hastings that read, “Ukraine must seek peace talks to have any hope of revival. The West should stop gloating over Russian losses and focus on a deal.”(2) Even publications like The Daily Telegraph have begun to change the rhythm of their reporting from upbeat assurances that Ukraine is on the rise to dirge-like warnings that “Putin is 25 kilometers from encircling elite Ukrainian unit in major Donbass victory.”(3)

The Fact Of The Matter

The fact of the matter is that if Ukraine had actually been succeeding at anywhere near the level previously suggested by much of the Western news media there would have been little if no possibility of such a marked shift in the tone and tune of Western reporting. In addition, what these articles didn’t make mention of is the possibility that the US/UK and NATO’s unremitting push to escalate the war up until this point has already begun to generate a potential economic disaster for Europe and the US along with a host of budding new problems for Ukraine.

Foiled Expectations

There is a growing understanding that nothing about this war is working out as expected. A major reason for this is, from the outset, speculations about Russia’s intentions were presented in the Western media as certainties or near certainties. Despite the fact that Russia never clearly illustrated its intentions, the US, the UK and NATO have claimed, for instance, that Russia’s central plan was to storm Kiev and engineer regime change. This “given” turned out to be an inference. Credentialed journalists like Alexander Mercouris, who have been marginalized in the mainstream Western media, have been saying from the outset of the war that Russia’s core intention is not regime change. For months Mercouris has been pointing out that, “Russia’s main intention has been to debilitate the Ukrainian army, the better part of it being in Donbass. This is almost certainly Russia’s main plan and focus.”(4)

No Inference Required

What doesn’t require inference, since it has been rammed down the Western public’s throat for the better part of three months, is the fact that the US’ intention on the economic front has been to “cripple” Russia via several rounds of increasingly strong sanctions.(5) The aim has been to generate conditions that will force the Russian ruble to go into freefall in order to create an inflation crisis in Russia. Well, that plan has certainly NOT worked. In fact, the ruble’s value has increased considerably over the past two months and Russia’s inflation rate, which increased somewhat a few months ago, has begun to move steadily toward evening out.

Meanwhile, Elsewhere

Meanwhile, a serious economic crisis has emerged in Europe and the US over the last few months that, as of now, appears to have no end in sight. In fact, the escalation of the war has exacerbated this crisis which is producing problematic economic reverberations not just in the West but around the globe.(6) In fact, there is a strong possibility that the additional sanctions imposed upon Russia may be backfiring.

Henry Kissinger (24 Hours Ago)

Yesterday Newsweek and The New York Times (along with just about every other mainstream and nonmainstream news publication) reported that former US Secretary Of State Henry Kissinger feels that it is essential that Ukraine cede territory to Russia and move toward a peace settlement as soon as possible.(7) He has actually been saying this since before the outset of the war but yesterday, coincidentally, it became headline news. As I’m almost sure you’ve heard, Mr. Kissinger is far from what one might call a peacenik. He is however, a man with more than a little knowledge and lived experience when it comes to dealing with Russian related foreign affairs.

The point being, that the grace period for labeling anyone who challenges the corporately funded news status quo line about what has been going on in Ukraine a “Putin sympathizer” or a “useful idiot” or “naive” is over. Sooner or later the inevitable is going to occur. Russia is going to win this war. In fact, Russia may end up achieving more than it initially set out to achieve (like the exacerbation of economic crises in the West) if the US/UK and NATO keep myopically and foolishly pushing for escalation while evading all calls for negotiations. The longer this war goes on, the more people will die unnecessarily.

Meanwhile, In Ukraine

All snark aside, people are dying right now in Ukraine as you read these words. This is not the time for you and I to be scrambling to save our faces regarding how much or how little we’ve gotten right or wrong about the war. The fact is, we’ve all been confused, we’ve all missed things and people are dying (violently) right now in Ukraine.

This short article is by no means a comprehensive account of what is going on in Ukraine. This article is simply a little alternate window (to the one that most of the corporate media has been presenting up until recently) into what is taking place in the conflict. I invite you to look into this matter further. Take a look at the articles I cited in this piece, which are all from mainstream news publications. I encourage you also to have a look at news that is outside the normal scope of what you usually take in. If you’d like suggestions feel free to ask, I’d be glad to do what I can to assist. Like you, I have felt much frustration and confusion around this conflict. I am by no means an expert on this matter either. It is only by searching, by asking others and by seeing and coming to terms with my own ignorance about this conflict that I have begun to learn some important things about it, however few.

British media ‘whitewashing’ Ukrainian neo-Nazis, UK journalist tells RT

Major British media outlets are providing one-sided coverage of the Ukrainian conflict and are making efforts to exonerate neo-Nazis in the country, Steve Sweeney, an international editor at London newspaper the Morning Star, has told RT.

Sweeney, who recently returned from the city of Lviv near the border with Poland, said he had to travel there himself because “the British media reporting [on Ukraine] is now incredibly restricted.”

“You have the Times, the Telegraph, the Guardian, the BBC, Sky News, Channel 4 all really producing identical reports from Kiev and Lviv that don’t deviate at all from the government line, from the NATO line on what’s happening” in Ukraine’s conflict with Russia, he said.

“A great effort is being made to really whitewash or rehabilitate the [Neo-Nazi] Azov [military battalion] as either having no influence in Ukraine or being just simply misunderstood nationalists,” the journalist pointed out.

The Azov battalion is an infamous neo-Nazi unit in the ranks of the Ukrainian military. Its members have fought Russian forces in the strategic port city of Mariupol since the start of Moscow’s military operation. Many of them were killed, while the rest, including a number of commanders, laid down their arms earlier in May after being holed up at the Azovstal steel plant for weeks. Footage of the surrendering fighters reveals many of them sporting tattoos of Swastikas and other Nazi symbols.

Sweeney went as far as to describe the BBC’s reporting on the Azov battalion as “a masterclass in fascism denial.”

The Morning Star editor described what he saw in Lviv, saying “the city itself was essentially full of fascists and mercenaries, and people in military fatigues that are using civilian transport networks to enter Ukraine” from Poland.

The foreigners in military gear, who say they come to Ukraine “to kill the Russians,» are welcomed with open arms; they’re rolled the red carpet out and they’re slapped on the back and treated as heroes,” he said.

He also said, however that as a journalist, he was treated in a completely different fashion by the Ukrainian authorities.

“What happened to me was I was quizzed about my business in Ukraine; told that I was a spy; told that I would be arrested and tortured; and the indication was possibly worse than that, which means they would’ve potentially killed me,” Sweeney recalled.

What has Vladimir Putin ordered?

The Russian president has recognised the independence of two Russian-controlled territories in east Ukraine. They call themselves the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics. The territories have been armed, financed and politically controlled by Russia since 2014. But until this week, Russia still recognised them as part of Ukraine.

Putin has also sent his military on a “peacekeeping mission” to Ukraine, meaning that Russia will formally occupy sovereign Ukrainian territory for a second time following the 2014 annexation of Crimea. But in this case, Russia has not annexed the territories. A document signed by Putin on Monday also allows him to establish military bases or place missiles in the territories.

Why is he targeting Ukraine?

First, Putin has indicated that he questions Ukraine’s right to statehood, calling modern Ukraine an artificial construct of the Soviet Union. He also sees Russians and Ukrainians as “one people”. Second, he thinks that a western-leaning Ukraine is dangerous for Russia. He has called the possibility of Nato membership for Ukraine a “red line” for the Kremlin. Third, he wants to show that popular revolutions such as the one that took place in Kyiv in 2014 do not succeed in the long run. That helps to prop up his own rule in Russia.

What might happen next?

The decision marks the end of the Minsk peace deal, a troubled road map out of the conflict that would have left the territories in Ukraine. That deal also contained a ceasefire agreement, which is now also void. More than 14,000 people have died in the fighting that has occurred since 2014.

Russia’s military is likely to make a formal entrance into the territories soon. Its troops and military vehicles have secretly taken part in the fighting since 2014, but this deployment will probably be much larger. Moscow will now threaten Ukraine with a broader war if it continues to fight against the “separatists”, telling Kyiv that Russia is now obliged by treaty to defend them from attack.

Russia could also justify a further invasion of Ukraine by recognising the territorial claims of the two separatist governments. They include the large city of Mariupol, which is on the other side of the frontlines. If Russia recognises their expanded borders, it may order its troops to begin an offensive against the Ukrainian army.

That could be a prelude to a broader conflict. Russia has gathered up to 190,000 troops along the Ukrainian border and is positioned to launch an attack that could threaten the capital, Kyiv, and sweep across much of the country. An offensive of that size has not been seen in Europe since the second world war.

What will the west do?

Western countries have condemned the threat and are likely to impose sanctions on Moscow this week. But the severity of the punishment will be up for debate. And they have made clear that they will not send combat troops to Ukraine.

As diplomats met in Brussels on Tuesday, it remained unclear whether Putin’s order to send troops into Ukraine would be the trigger for the massive sanctions the EU has been threatening for weeks.

The Ukraine-Russia crisis: What is happening?

Civilians in Ukraine are being targeted and fleeing their homes in what the United Nations calls the fastest-growing refugee crisis in Europe since World War II.

More than 4 million people have fled across borders to seek safety since Russia deployed its military into neighboring Ukraine on February 24. Bombs and shelling have continued to escalate, deliberately targeting homes and civilian infrastructure in what could become the worst humanitarian crisis Europe has seen in decades.

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is calling on the Russian government to immediately cease all violations of international law to spare additional harm to civilians and avoid further displacement as the Ukraine crisis continues.

We’re on the ground in Poland, working with our partners to provide critical information services as well as sleeping bags, medical supplies and other essentials to refugees from Ukraine who are crossing the border. In Ukraine, we are working with partners to provide lifesaving support to civilians forced to flee their homes amid growing violence.

What is happening in Ukraine?

Over 700 civilians have been reported killed in the Russian attacks. Approximately 6.5 million people have reportedly been displaced within the country and over 4 million have been forced to flee into neighboring Moldova, Poland and other European states. Most are women and childen.

Public infrastructure has also been destroyed, meaning thousands of people are without adequate water, heat and electricity, or are unable to reach stores to buy basic necessities because roads and bridges are unpassable. Health facilities, including a maternity and children’s hospital, have also been damaged during the invasion—another grave breach of international humanitarian law.

What has caused the escalation in tensions between Ukraine and Russia?

Ukraine—which declared itself an independent country in 1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union—has been forming closer ties with the European Union and with NATO. Russia, however, sees these ties as an economic and strategic threat to its own security.

What does war mean for Ukraine?

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine could displace far more people and cause more human suffering than Europe has seen this century. The world will bear witness to the deaths of innocent civilians, the destruction of homes and infrastructure, and massive displacement of families within Ukraine and beyond.

The impacts of the conflict will be felt not just across Europe but around the globe. The war will also impact food supplies—particularly access to wheat, a Ukrainian export—for countries like Yemen, Libya and Lebanon that are already facing high levels of food insecurity.

Economy in decline

Further violence will devastate Ukraine’s already weakened infrastructure. The country’s health system, reeling from COVID-19, is fragile, and its economy has declined drastically. Food and fuel shortages are likely to be acute, public services rendered nonfunctioning.

Refugees at risk

As attacks continue to target civilians, many more Ukrainians are being displaced from their homes, both within their country and across borders. The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations has warned that the Russian invasion could displace up to 5 million people, who would join what is already a record 31 million refugees and asylum seekers around the world.

The situation for those who remain inside Ukraine is also increasingly precarious.

Women and girls, especially those traveling alone, could be at risk of exploitation and abuse.

“We’re extremely concerned about the rising humanitarian needs in the country. Thousands of people who have fled their homes are currently without basic necessities including shelter and food,” said IRC senior director of emergencies Lani Fortier. “In displacement contexts, women and girls are always the most adversely affected and bear the brunt of crises. The situation in Ukraine is no different. Women and girls, especially those traveling alone, could be at risk of exploitation and abuse.”

Also at particular risk are the refugees Ukraine hosts from other countries such as Afghanistan and Belarus.

The majority of the 4 million refugees who have fled Ukraine are women and children. Along with women displaced within Ukraine, they are at grave risk of violence, exploitation and abuse.

Wanted and not wanted by some human beings who have decided to try everything because they feel that everything is slipping away from them, that the power they had over you is disappearing and they are afraid. So what do they do? They are trying to scare you even more after the organized pandemic that you have experienced in the last two years of your time on earth.

Why do we say “wanted and unwanted war”? We say this because the majority of human beings in the world government have decided to create this war, which will not last long we assure you, because we will intervene before it goes too far, in order to hide other “malpractices” that this world government practices. Among these human beings there are those who want to have control over the people at all costs, but… because there is a but… some of them realize that they have gone too far and are taking a back seat to these events.

This means that among all those who since time and time again wanted to rule the Earth for their well-being, for power, for money etc… some of them are starting to have glimmers of understanding of consciousness.

Yes, some of them, very few, are asking themselves a lot of questions about their past and present actions. This means that the Light is coming to meet these human beings who, at a certain point, were closed, totally closed to it.

So what will happen in the next few moments? Quite simply, those who open themselves to the Light will join the Light humanity and act accordingly: they will oppose the humans of the world government who wish the annihilation of a large part of the human population, but this will be very delicate for them indeed, because they risk receiving the “wrath” of those who want this annihilation and it is possible that in this reversal that they will experience they will lose their lives.

If this is the case, these humans will have given their lives for humanity, for the Light, even if they had previously lived for a long time in the shadow energy.

What is happening now in Ukraine is of course wanted by those who “lead your world”. It would be too complicated to explain to you in detail, but we are watching strongly, as we have just said, so that everything does not go too far.

So what are we going to do? For the moment we know the reasons for what is happening in Ukraine. We know who manipulated so and so to make it happen. These beings are under our surveillance, high surveillance do not doubt it. If they should want to go too far, we will act in the best way for the Earth and its humanity.

We are always ready to support you, to help you live the Light more and more, because it is very important that the Earth, even if it is a small planet in a big universe, illuminates the galaxy in which it lives. Everything is a question of balance not only at the level of your galaxy but also in your universe and by repercussion in all the universes.

At this time it is not possible to let a planet, such as the Earth, be destroyed for the well-being of a few beings imbued with their desire for small human power and helped by non-loving galactic beings. Indeed, this world government that wishes to have a hold on all of you and even on the planet Earth, is supported, physically and technologically helped by galactic beings who also wish to have a hold on the planet Earth and what it contains such as certain minerals that do not exist on their planets.

This is why we tell you that we are watching strongly to make sure that these non-loving galactic beings do not undertake any more harmful actions with the humans they support. What is happening in Ukraine is there to frighten all the peoples of the Earth.

But we will tell you this: do not fall again into fear that would only feed the energies of all these shadow beings. On the contrary, be confident in what is going to happen: understand that these humans of little power are themselves in fear because they feel that the Light will soon flood them and that they will not be able to face it. So they try to do everything to scare you, they do not hesitate to have humans killed in cold blood, and they do not hesitate to withdraw their money from certain banks to protect themselves financially. By this we mean that using this struggle in Ukraine as a pretext they sell everything they can sell, like shares, in order to put their money in a safe place.

But what they don’t know is that we are watching and that we have the ability to destroy all their bank accounts, all their possessions, in a matter of seconds.
