All threads about opinions (good/bad) about the new DLC will be merged in here! This is to prevent the flooding of threads!

Going from info, from reading alot of past interviews from the devs.

Scorched Earth will be an expansion DLC, Scorched Earth will be a new «Ark» as stated by the devs, the desert biome will be a new «Ark» as stated by the devs.

My thought about this is that I hope this isn’t a DLC you have to pay for, because it will be locked behind attaining ascension, which is very tough to do. VERY, VERY few have beat all 3 bosses legitly, let alone on official servers. So, if you pay for this DLC, you won’t be able to access it, unless you beat the 3 very hard to beat bosses, which most small tribes are unable to do, or groups of just 3-4 people. Possible, yes. but not for most players.

What are other’s thoughts on this?

Myself, yes, I don’t mind giving the devs more money, cause heck I’ve spent almost 1900 hours on Ark, but if the expansion is locked behind ascension, I don’t think I’d want to reward them for making a bad design decision, cause content you pay for needs to be accessible to the general public, those that pay for it. Not nerfed super easy, but so that a casual player has a reasonable chance to access what he’s paid for.

So, myself, till i’ve legitly beaten all 3 bosses: Spider queen, Meso, and Dragon. I won’t be purchasing the DLC, cause it won’t make a different for me, and is a bad game design decision, to lock it from a player like that.

Agreed. Play a map like The Island or The Center. Get used to the game mechanics and such before going into DLC or mods.

As far as the «easiest» DLC, I’d go with Aberration. Followed by Extinction, and then Scorched Earth was the most challenging. The new Genesis expansion I would save for last. It changes some of the core aspects of gameplay. I would not recommend playing Genesis and then going back to one of the older expansions.

Scorched Earth is probably the easiest of the 3, followed by Extinction, then abberation but none of them are all that hard. SE is a beautiful desert map but it’s kind of small and it doesn’t add all that much but it’s still a fun map. Extinction is fine I just don’t like the layout but that’s a personal opinion and doesn’t mean the map is bad. Abberation is the best if the maps but it can be daunting for a newer player because of some of it’s features like ravagers and nameless. Many people complain it’s way harder but it’s really not. They just can’t play the game without flying tames.

For what you are asking, SE would be the best one to get. It’s only major challenge is water and once you get the hang of it, it’s not bad at all.

Hello guys, i wonder whats the best paid dlc for me to buy first? Is it Scorched Earth, Extinction, Aberration, or Genesis? I wanted the dlc with great gameplay, not too hard, interesting, and of course fun. Actually i don’t need it now (cuz i have a real crappy laptop and that makes the game real unplayable even at super low settings and i have no cash to buy a pc or upgrade), so im just asking in case i got a new laptop or pc

I suggest then to wait until the actual time when you actually get a decent laptop to ask this as that seems like a rather long ways off.

id say probably extiction is the easiest it might be a bit too big with all the biomes spaced out tho and most of the map is the wastland

abberation was my first dlc it is pretty hard for newer players tho when it first came out i couldnt even find the ramp to the blue area but since then i have gotten better and i think it is my favorite dlc yet

scorched earth for me at least i feel you could have the same experience on ragnarock the free dlc but it is a pretty easy dlc and i love to just have a chilled time on there well maybe not a chilled time its pretty hot

genesis is probs my least favourite because its a very open map but you cant use flyers on it i also dont really like the shop and minigames on it either

Ragnarok

Ragnarok is a free, official, non-canonical DLC expansion map for ARK: Survival Evolved.

Ragnarok was released on June 12, 2017 for the PC, Mac and Linux version of ARK, and for consoles on August 29, 2017. [1] Half of the map was finished at PC release date and 75% at console’s release. The map was declared 99% finished for PC in December 2017 and consoles in January 2018.

Ragnarok adds several new creatures, such as the Ice Wyvern, Iceworm Male, Dire Polar Bear, and Griffin, as well as 4 new dungeon bosses: the Spirit Dire Bear and Spirit Direwolf, the Iceworm Queen and the Lava Elemental. It’s a whole new map that boasts an expansive 144 sq. kilometer environment, an active volcano, species from DLC Scorched Earth, and higher than average spawn rates of Megalania and Ovis (creatures that are harder to find on other maps). On Ragnarok there are unique Beaver Dams; they are bigger and look more like beaver dams in real life. Beavers can live in the Dams, too.

Creatures tamed and items received on official Ragnarok servers can be brought to the vanilla map The Island, [2] except Polar Bears.

Unique Environmental Features.

Ragnarok is approximately 2.5x the size of The Island, in terms of land mass, and roughly 4x in total size. These calculations do not account for the significant, wide-ranging cave networks, and sizable dungeons.

The Mysterious Mysteries have finally come to a close with the single biggest update in our 14-month development cycle. Studio Wildcard is proud to announce our first expansion pack, ARK: Scorched Earth.

Scorched Earth is an completely new and different experience from The Island. Stranded naked, dehydrated and starving on a fiery, drought-ridden desert world, Survivors must immediately seek water, hunt for food, harvest new flora, craft new items, and build shelter from the extreme heat.

Scorched Earth is an entirely new map, composed of seven unique, desert themed biomes – dunes, high desert, mountains, canyons, badlands, oasis and the ever-dangerous dragon trench – each with their own aesthetics, resources & ecosystems, and littered with ruins, geysers, and intricate ancient cave systems.

The desert’s biomes are filled with fantastical new creatures, many of which can be tamed. Lead a caravan of the camel-like Morellatops, or rain fire down on your enemies from the back of a Wyvern. Just mind your step in the vast desert, or you might attract a Death Worm!

One of the easiest resources to obtain on The Island has now become arguably one of the most valuable resources on this new map: water. Players must re-learn what it means to survive and thrive in a harsh desert environment depleted of water resources.

Discover over 50 new items to craft including new outfits and structures to protect from the heat, and new tools to help survive in the harsh environment. Carry temporary shelter with you using tents, employ whips, boomerangs and flamethrowers for ‘defense’, wind turbines to generate clean power, and water wells & oil refineries to harvest scarce resources, among many new mechanics!

Prepare yourself for new weather experiences including dangerous electrical storms, blinding sand storms, befuddling heat stroke.

Unleash the power of the Obelisks to come face-to-face with ARK’s fourth and deadliest boss creature to date – the ferocious Manticore!

Scorched Earth utilizes a new feature called The Gateway, a cross-server ARK transfer. Survivors who manage to survive the harsh arid conditions can travel back and forth from the Scorched Earth map to the ARK: Survival Evolved main game, taking with them newly collected tools, weapons, and their newly tamed creatures to impress their friends and dazzle their combatants.

Scorched Earth is available starting today on Steam Early Access and Xbox One Game Preview. As Scorched Earth is an expansion, players already must own ARK: Survival Evolved in order to play.

Xbox Update v739!

On top of the Scorched Earth content, Xbox One player will also be receive a new update that brings them up to speed with lots of the content already available on PC. The update will also include a HD resolution upgrade to fully support 720p gameplay with 1080p UI’s.

Newly available as part of the ‘ARK Official Mods Program’ today, Primitive+ is a functionality mod playable on official ARK maps, challenging players to use weapons and tools only made of wood and stone, without the benefit of advanced metals to create weapons such as guns. It’s a whole new set of items and detailed mechanics focused on ‘primitive’ survival, which fits snugly in the world of ARK.

In addition, the versatile Pelagornis and the pack-minded Allosaurus, along with a new Fishing Rod and fishing mechanic, and a flurry of additional gameplay features have been added!
