I want to show you something. Please, look at the screen.
You have just watched a short cartoon. Who are the heroes in this cartoon?
Do you like to watch cartoons?
What is your favourite cartoon?
What is your favourite cartoon hero?
Good! You probably have already guessed the topic of our lesson today. What is it? What are we going to speak about?
Yes, you are right! The topic of our lesson today is “Cartoon favourites” and we are going to speak about your favourite and famous cartoon heroes.
Today at the lesson you will:
read about cartoon heroes

speak about and describe them
III Presenting some cartoon heroes. (3 min)
Mickey Mouse has got many friends among other cartoon heroes. Look at the slide. These cartoon heroes are also his friends. Who are they? In the slide there are pictures of the following heroes: Shrek, Snow White, Buratino, Neznaika, Cindrella, Baba Yaga, Karlson, Fiona.
What heroes do you like? Why?
What heroes don’t you like? Why?
IV Practising reading for detailed information (5 min)
Mickey wants to know how much you know about these cartoon heroes. Look at the slide. You can see short texts about cartoon heroes. Read the texts and match them with cartoon heroes (pictures of the cartoon heroes are also given in the slide). You have 3 minutes to do this task. Then we’ll check.
In the slide the following texts are given:
This hero is big. He has got no hair. He has got big brown eyes. He has got a big nose. He has got big ears. He is ugly. He is kind (Shrek).
This hero is slim. She is tall. She has got black hair. She has got brown eyes. She has got a small nose. She has got small ears. She is beautiful. She is kind (Snow White).
This hero is small. He is short. He has got no hair. He has got big black eyes. He has got a big black nose. He has got big ears. He is funny (Mickey Mouse).
This hero is small. He is short. He has got yellow hair. He has got big blue eyes. He has got small ears. He has got a small nose. He has got a blue hat. He is funny. He is stupid (Neznaika).
Now, let’s check. So, the first text: What hero is this text about?
Yes, you are right\ No, it’s not so. Do you have some other variants?
The teacher checks 3 other texts and their matching with pictures. Well done!
V Presenting and practising vocabulary connected with descriptions. (10 min)
Mickey Mouse wants you to tell about your favourite cartoon heroes, but we need to revise some words. Look at the slide.
With the help of pictures in the slides the teacher presents the topic vocabulary necessary for describing a cartoon hero. The pupils repeat the words after the teacher and then answer the teacher’s questions or make up sentences.
Is Shrek tall or short?
Is Karlson big or small?
Is Fiona plump or slim?
Is Snowhite plump or slim?
Has Shrek got no hair or red hair?
Has Karlson got red hair or grey hair?
Has Cinderella got black hair or yellow hair?
Has Snowhite got no hair or black hair?
Has Baba Yaga got grey hair or yellow hair?
Has Shrek got brown eyes or blue eyes?
Has Fiona got blue eyes or brown eyes?
Has Karlson got blue eyes or black eyes?
Has Mickey Mouse got big ears or small ears?
Has Neznaika got small ears or big ears?
Has Baba Yaga got a big nose or a small nose?
Has Neznaika got a small nose or a big nose?
Work in a pair. Make up a sentence with each word and tell it your partner.
And now Mickey and his friends have prepared a short quiz about cartoon heroes. Choose the right variant:
Buratino has got a big nose \\ a small nose
Cinderella is beautiful \\ ugly
Mickey Mouse has got no hair \\ red hair
Neznaika is clever \\ stupid
Fiona is plump \\ slim
Snowhite has got black hair \\ yellow hair
Karlson is short \\ tall
Baba Yaga is kind \\ angry
Shrek has got big ears \\ small ears
Karlson is funny \\ stupid
The 1 st sentence, S1, will you?
The teacher checks the answers with the pupils.
VI Describing a cartoon hero. Practising vocabulary (5 min).
Children, I don’t like Baba Yaga, because she is angry. And I want to tell Mickey about her. Help me describe her, please. Work in a pair. Discuss and choose the right variant with your partner. Look at the slide and complete the description of Baba Yaga:
This hero is______(tall, short)
She is_______(slim, plump)
She has got___________(black hair, grey hair, yellow hair)
She has got _________(brown eyes, black eyes, blue eyes)
She has got ___________(big ears, small ears)
She has got a ___________ (big nose, small nose)
She is___________ (beautiful, ugly)
She is ____________(kind, angry)
The pupils work in a pair and chose the right variant.
Well, now check up yourselves. The teacher shows the right variants in the slide and the pupils check up themselves.
Good! S3, will you read the whole description of Baba Yaga (all sentences about Baba Yaga in the slide)
Work in a pair and read this description to each other.
VII Describing a cartoon hero. Practising speaking and listening skills (10 min).
If you want to know Mickey’s best friends you are to do the following. You are going to work in 3
groups. Look at the slide to see what group you belong to. The teacher divides the pupils into groups and shows them their working places.
I will give a picture of a cartoon hero to each group. But the picture is cut into pieces. You are to put pieces together to make a picture and to describe a cartoon hero you see in the picture. Use the plan I will give you. Then, chose a speaker from your group who will describe your hero. Don’t name the hero, only describe. Don’t show your picture to other groups. You have 5 minutes.
Your time is over. We should start. Now each speaker from each group will describe a cartoon hero. Pupils from other groups should say what cartoon hero it is. So, the I group, you are welcome.
Good! Pupils, who is it? Ask the speaker. Use the question “Is it…?” (it is written in the slide)
In the same way the speakers describe their cartoon heroes and other pupils guess who they are.
VIII Rounding off (1 min)
Great! Now I see that you are real experts in cartoons and I want to award you with special certificates for your good work. Thanks a lot.
IX Home Assignment (1 min)

Home reading. Walt Disney’s World.
Text 11
WALT DISNEY’S WORLD
I think you know the name of Walt Disney. To many people in our century his name means the world of cartoons. Disney has created a lot of short cartoons and many longer films. His name is very famous, and not only in America.
Walt Disney was born in Chicago on December 5, 1901. Then his family left that city in the North of America for a place in the South. When Walt Disney grew up, he began to draw pictures and create cartoons, and one day he had an idea to make a mouse the main character of the cartoons.
He told his wife, Lidia, about this mouse character as a funny friendly little thing, who could speak, dance and sing and who in fact, could live like a man.
“That’s a good idea,” Lidia said. “Call him Mickey.” So that is what Disney called him. In 1928 the audience saw Mickey Mouse on the screen for the first time. Mickey became very popular and soon Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse were famous stars.
Then came other characters: Donald Duck, Pluto, and many, many more. Some of them are bright, some are not, but all of them are usually kind and friendly. And Disney’s main characters are always clever. In fact Disney has created a special animal world full of optimism and success.
Disney’s stories end happily. All his films are easy and nice to watch. People always enjoy his cartoons very much.
One day an idea came to Disney. He wanted to create a special place, a special land for children and parents to have fun together. So he built Disneyland. Disneyland is in California near Los Angeles.

Cartoons―we have all grown up watching these fantasy characters who can define gravity, walk over water and carry out stunts that are not humanly possible. They make us laugh and they make us cry, nothing feels better than watching our favorite famous cartoon characters. There are certain production houses who are master creators of these funny characters and stories. Girls have devoured stories about princesses and their prince charming, and boys have loved enacting characters from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Warner Bros. have created the best friend cum enemy duo, Tom Cat and Jerry Mouse. The rib-tickling tactics tried by Jerry to save himself from the clutches of mean, but kind-hearted Tom have always entertained us.
