User-generated content (UGC for short) is a feature that allows selected users to publish their items and sell them to other users. It is mainly associated with accessories in the Avatar shop, but can also apply to classic clothing (Classic shirts, Classic pants, and Classic T-shirts), and assets in the creator marketplace such as Models, Decals, Audio, and Plugins.

Accessories
User-created accessories can be viewed under the Community Creations category in the Avatar Shop. It was released on August 15, 2019, to certified users on the site.
Roblox has reached out to reveal that they will sometime in the future depend on content created by eligible users rather than prioritizing assets made by the official Roblox account, which is managed by admins to publish items as a default.
Currently, users are allowed the ability to create accessories through applications that are opened at some times on the Developer Forum. They must submit a portfolio of items, along with some examples of creation process documentation. After applications are closed, they are reviewed and certain users are chosen for that application. [1]
History
On December 6, 2019, it was revealed that star creators will be given the ability to request user-generated content items to be created per TheMeganPlays’ tweet. [3] Some select star creators were given the ability to request an item early to test the feature. Roblox avatar shop managers originally let MeganPlays’ item be created to test the feature, [4] but her item was quickly turned into a blank item uploaded by the Roblox account. A copy of the item was later re-uploaded onto the avatar shop the afternoon that the original was deleted, and can currently be purchased. Currently, star creators can only create one accessory per month. [citation needed] The items are uploaded by the Roblox staff account hornsword after being approved, and are transferred under the star creators’ assets.
On September 23, 2021, it was revealed that Roblox was testing a new feature for UGC which would allowed UGC creators to upload accessories through groups. Later on September 27, 2021, it was released to the public. Only UGC creators with high enough permissions are allowed to upload accessories through groups. [5]
On October 14, 2021, it was announced during RDC 2021 that in the future, UGC items would be available for all users, be able to create bodies and heads, UGC creators being allowed to make their items go Limited, as well as implement UGC items into experiences. [6]
Uploading and managing accessories
It costs 750 Robux to upload any type of accessory. [7] When uploading, the accessory must have Plastic material. [citation needed] Whenever a user publishes an accessory, they can input customized descriptions, a Robux price, and much more. However, releasing limited unique items and making existing items limited is still restricted to Roblox.
Creators cannot currently add scripts and particles such as 
Sparkles, 
Fire and 
Smoke to their accessories.
On April 13, 2020, Roblox began testing for the support of Thumbnail Cameras in UGC items. The feature is currently not public. [citation needed]
Premium is required to upload accessories, and losing it will cause all pre-existing accessories to go off-sale.
Glitches and bugs with UGC accessories
On June 30, a glitch affecting most (if not all) UGC accessories caused them to sporadically go offsale. This was patched the same day, and all accessories went back on sale.

Clothing
Classic clothing
Current template for creating classic shirts and classic pants.
Any user can create and publish 2D classic clothing such as classic shirts, classic pants and classic T-shirts. Classic T-shirts were first opened to player uploading in March 2007. Players with Builders Club (now Roblox Premium) could upload classic shirts and classic pants starting on April 24, 2008. [8] Classic clothing was later implemented onto groups through the audit log when creating an item.
Originally, classic clothing could only be sold by players with Builders Club or Roblox Premium. Between January 20, 2021, and March 25, 2021, Roblox gradually removed the membership requirement from uploading classic shirts and pants, as well as the membership requirement to put them onsale. After the change, any player could upload and sell classic clothing, however it would cost a fee of 10 Robux to upload (for classic shirts & classic pants) or put onsale (for classic t-shirts).

Creator marketplace items
Users can also create items within the creator marketplace with Premium. In December 2019, RoxyBloxyy announced plans for paid plugins. [11] The announcement also revealed plans for many other marketplace types to become paid access. The paid plugins update was implemented later that same month for users.
Criticism
Accessories criticism
Copying from pre-existing items
The UGC accessories feature has mostly been criticized due to potential copies of pre-existing avatar shop items by Roblox, low effort, or unoriginal ideas. Some notable example being some early hats by tarabyte (BiggestHead, Illuminati, Despacito Spider, and Triple Headstack).
UGC has also specifically been criticized by the trading community for fears of limited and limited unique items dropping in value. This originally began when the Downtown Denizen Fedora was uploaded by WhoToTrus and had subsequently been claimed by a portion of the community to be a ripoff of The Classic ROBLOX Fedora, despite the Downtown Denizen Fedora using a noticeably different mesh and texture on closer inspection.
Oversaturation
In addition, some items can also be oversaturated, like the Cartoony Rainbow items by CodyDevv. Not only that, but more recently, due to the rising popularity of the game Friday Night Funkin’, the avatar shop also saw a rise in items relating to the game, including a whopping 8 hats out of the same character (Tricky, who was actually from Madness Combat, but had his own Friday Night Funkin’ mod).
Cancellation of Roblox’s official sales
Another concern about UGC from traders and collectors in general is the fact that Roblox appears to have canceled their official sales, which were known for bringing back popular ‘classic’ items such as the Workclock Headphones and Bighead as well as releasing new retextures of popular item meshes like Domini and Valkyrie Helms among other highly demanded items such as limited unique colored faces. The lack of these has led to disappointment from many users including prominent community members such as Younite and even some UGC creators who used to participate in sales themselves.
Waist accessories
A trend among UGC items are waist accessories designed to look like a giant object, so a user can disguise your avatar as that object and fool other users into thinking their avatars in-game are part of the game map. A notable example is BOX. Because of how this can disrupt gameplay, scripts have been published in which they remove these kinds of accessories from avatars wearing them. As of recent, many of these items have been taken off-sale, and a new rule was added that items may not cover more than 80% of a player’s body. [citation needed]
Copyrighted Items
There is also a rising concern of certain items being extremely similar to other intellectual properties, or IPs, in a sense that they end up being similar enough to potentially warrant legal actions under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA). This, however, is ultimately at the discretion of the IP holder.
Two notable examples in relation to user-created accessories include the Demon Plushy Bear and Demon Plushy Bunny back accessories by LuxEyes, which are based on the characters Monokuma and Monomi respectively from the Danganronpa franchise. The items had received a mixed reception, with many Danganronpa fans praising the items for being created, while other players were concerned about the extremely strong semblance to the characters, including being from a mature-rated and sometimes adult-rated franchise. The two accessories are currently content deleted and he is now banned due to violating the copyright rules, and LuxEyes’ publishing abilities for UGC items have subsequently been revoked, leading to their departure from Roblox entirely. [citation needed]
Recently, as of 2021, due to the rising popularity of the game Friday Night Funkin’, there have been items relating to the game and mods for the game. While they were mainly criticized for oversaturating the catalog, they were also thought to have been a copyright violation. However, the creators of Friday Night Funkin’ and creators of the mods allow the use of their characters, or permission was obtained to use the characters.
UGC accessory creator concerns
On December 14, 2019, users in the Roblox Video Stars Program were granted the ability to publish UGC items at a slower rate than selected developers, presumably in response to YouTube’s regulation changes regarding COPPA (effectively reducing ad revenue by a sizeable amount for kid-friendly content creators). This has been met with disdain by some users as they feel that Roblox is favoring video creators as opposed to developers, big and small alike. Additionally, some Star Program creators have been accused of uploading low effort items, with the most notable instance being the Golden Parrot by AntRavioli.
The user JohnAvia was accepted as part of the UGC program, after posting many UGC concepts onto Twitter. It was then discovered all of their UGC concepts were plagiarized from other artists, [12] which resulted in backlash against them. Their items were quickly content deleted and they were removed from accessing further accessory uploads.
Clothing criticism
Clothing spamming
It has been criticised how clothing can be mass uploaded and sale of shirts, pants, or t-shirts, often stolen from other creators on the platform. Frequently, the clothes are those of a popular designer or clothing set, though it could also be clothing that has been taken off-sale. A player with Premium may create a copy of a piece of clothing that is on-sale so that they do not need to spend Robux on that item.
Texture ripping
There has also been some instances of clothing textures ripped from real-life photos, or other programs and platforms such as games or items made by creators for online worlds, being re-mapped to the Roblox clothing template and uploaded. Some of the creators of this content have disputed with Roblox clothing designers and submitted takedown requests due to copyright infringement.
Clothing theft
Clothing theft has also been criticised for stealing clothing designs from original creators. This usually happens when a specific clothing has gotten popular over time. there was away to steal clothing, by simply putting the clothing ID to the previous number of the ID, but this was later patched by Roblox on behalf of the complaints, but clothing that were released before the update was made can still be stolen by thieves.
List of controversial users
Throughout the history of Roblox, certain users have achieved significantly controversial reputations. Listed below are some of the most notable examples in the history of the website, with background information on the controversies they caused.

Apart from copying games, he is also famous for copying YouTube videos, clothing, group names, and logos. Jaredvaldez4, along with his alt account jaredvaldez2, had managed to accumulate numerous accolades before being banned and deleted, these include; Jaredvaldez4 being the first account to achieve over 20 million place visits, and jaredvaldez2 achieving 14 million place visits before being deleted.
jaredvaldez4 was permanently banned in September 2012, but he was able to create a new account called jared2valdez4 and copied more games from there, including copying Galleons by Wingman8.
jaredvaldez4 was IP banned in March 2013, followed by him releasing an apology video on his YouTube channel. He still has an account, but no longer plagiarizes other developers’ games.
He began to receive a negative reputation when he copied the aforementioned game a month after it was uncopylocked. He is also infamous for reuploading free models as proof that he «owns» the Town of Robloxia game entirely, going as far as to accuse 1dev2 of copying «his game».
Apart from copying games, he is also infamous for creating YouTube videos sending threats to Roblox admins, as well as aggressively attacking critics, and even mocking the dead co-founder of Roblox, Erik Cassel. He has apologized since.
Christina8787 tried to increase the popularity of her game by starting an advertisement campaign that criticized game designer IronInforcer, as well as his famous game The Iron Cafe. Although IronInforcer did not directly respond, many users criticized the ads as flame and thought of Christy as an attention seeker.
She was also well known for her involvement in a feud between her and famous video maker XiaoXiaoMan. After he made a YouTube video criticizing her place for his series in Raging Roblox Reviewer, she made a YouTube video in response to criticizing both XiaoXiaoMan and his review. Many users sided with XiaoXiaoMan in the feud, and Club Christy declined in popularity.
Christina8787 then transferred to another account known as FizzyPops, where she created The Pop Club. The Pop Club also became famous and was relatively well-liked until it was made known that the creator was Christina. The Roblox community’s hatred towards her has died down since.
The game was heavily criticized mainly for its large use of free models and the abundance of online daters that visited the game. However, the main reason for the controversy surrounding Sonic and the game was because many users accused Sonic of copying Island Resort by Wierdoking. Wierdoking himself accused Sonic of copying the place and stealing much of his fame, which sparked a large feud between the two. Eventually, the feud died down, along with the popularity of both resorts.
SONICTHEHEDGEHOGXX is also the creator and owner of «The First Encounter Assault Recon» (F.E.A.R.), which for six years (2010-2016) was the largest group on ROBLOX. F.E.A.R. has been widely criticized for various reasons.
One of the main criticisms of the group is the fact that its name and several of its divisions were copied from the video game F.E.A.R. The group has also been accused of being filled up with inactive alternative accounts to boost F.E.A.R.’s member count. F.E.A.R., and Sonic himself, have been called unskilled as well, even after his Machinima, «Out of BLOXY Cola» and his popular country city roleplay place, «Welcome to Venezia» were featured numerous times on the Roblox Blog.
She has been criticized heavily by the Off-Topic and Roblox Talk forum communities for issuing unfair bans. She is a well-known atheist and thought to impose her views on others and banning people who disagree with her views.
Although she received a lot of criticism, she also had a large fan base within the forum community. Like Christina8787, the controversy surrounding MSE6 has since died down.
On April 27, 2020, MSE6’s account was terminated, despite not being active since 2016.
On May 1, 2017, Quackityishot was banned for three days for bad behavior. He told his fans to raid the forums (the All Things Roblox section) telling the Roblox Admins to unban him. Roblox responded with a permanent ban on his account which made the forum raid continue. Roblox quickly became fed up with all of the messages and put a restriction on the forums so that only accounts that have existed for more than 13 years could post, which prevented all users, including the actual admins, to post on the forums.
Quackityishot is also believed to have a bit of responsibility for the forum merge, and eventual deletion of the forums, due to his forum raid, although there is no substantial proof of this.
Supremacy grew rapidly and gained almost 400,000 subscribers in a few months from promoting his fake Robux giveaways. He was mainly criticized after false copyright striking Scrimzox and im_sandra.
The rise of Supremacy ended when he was terminated on YouTube on May 29, 2020, resulting in the whole Roblox community celebrating.
After Supremacy was terminated from YouTube, he moved on to more channels to continue his Free Robux Clickbait but shortly after quitting YouTube.
On one occasion, she called out do_om for «copying» an advertisement she had supposedly created without having any evidence, causing her fanbase to attack do_om. [1]
On November 20, 2018, her account was terminated for being involved in exchanging Roblox items for real-life money. However, im_sandra denied this reason, instead of blaming it on her doing of copying clothing. [2] However, this was quickly disproven by multiple users.
Despite her termination, im_sandra continued to cause controversy, such as creating a fake dating scandal with YouTuber Nathorix.
MrSTR4TClaus (aka STR4T) is a Roblox user most known for making the very controversial Roblox gambling website Rbxflip.
He earned his criticism when a YouTuber named greenlegocats123, known on Roblox as CowCowManManThingIt, made a video explaining Rbxflip. The next day, however, another YouTuber, KonekoKittenWasTaken, made a video criticizing Rbxflip. Then the week after those videos were uploaded STR4T started to inform his Discord server to dislike the Rbxflip hate videos.
He was also controversial for getting multiple famous Roblox figures terminated, such as DragonWant, Flamey50 (on the account Doii), and Melancholy.
He was best known for exposing MisterObvious for his actions, a Bloxy Award winner and popular user around the time of his first termination.
In December 4, 2014, his original account navy898 was terminated for talking about loleris, a controversial user at the time, on the Roblox forum. [citation needed] He was also known to be banned frequently for his actions for criticizing and taunting the Roblox moderation team.
Then, in 2016, he created a new account called GetCampedOnNERD, which was later renamed NotRubenSim prior to termination. He used this account until 2018 when this account was terminated. In August 2018, he created another new account called PoweringManipulation (currently named krubensim).
On September 9, 2021, his account was terminated for swearing in front of a Roblox Intern using voice chat on one of his alternative accounts named devmink. [3] The moderator who terminated him also terminated all of his accounts, including his main account.
Controversial types of users

The scam involves players changing the thumbnail and name of their game, without actually updating the game itself. This can mislead users into playing the game, which contributes to the number of place visits and Robux the owner receives.
In games, Guests mostly had the same permissions as registered users, albeit they lack permission to communicate with others. They were often the target of condemnation by registered users, mostly due to their inexperience in-game and inability to react.
Another criticism was that they could freely exploit games and not suffer consequences as they did not have their own account.
In October 2017, the Guest feature was removed, but glitches were discovered to make you a guest again. This was patched in September 2019.
These players are usually somewhat older users that want to get a rise out of messing with younger players, although younger users are not immune from displaying similar behavior.
Some people that troll may employ more serious methods that have been a subject of scrutiny, especially by the media, due to many younger users leaving Roblox as a result of the trolls’ methods, which include but are not limited to bullying, sending inappropriate and/or offensive messages, and discrimination (particularly against marginalized minority groups and certain subcultures).
Their primary target was non-paying users, as they may be unable to afford or were not allowed to purchase Robux.
Scams were not as prominent before 2016, but when tickets were removed, they skyrocketed due to Robux being the only currency that could only be purchased.
In December 2018, a new captcha was implemented to stop Scambots from spamming comments. However, in January 2019, this captcha was bypassed.
Fortunately, Scambots now only appear every few months in the form of new botted accounts or hacked accounts that became bots. However, you can still see the spam messages from years prior in various comments sections.
Their infamy increased in 2017 when several media outlets reported that younger users were being exposed to what appeared to be messages from sexual predators.
Most of their exploits come in a variety of forms, including but not limited to; deleting game parts, inserting random models, and kicking players from the game. In extreme cases, they may also break Roblox’s Community Rules.
These sorts of players existed since the release of Roblox, but due to Tix still being a thing, they were able to afford more items.
Due to their lack of access to Robux, they often use as many free avatar shop and/or event items as they can to design their avatar. As a result, their avatars are usually disliked due to the lack of coherency and thought going into the avatar’s design, which is mostly attributed to the F2P users’ limited access to a wide range of items.
They are often found in games that appear on the front page that allows them to override their out-of-game look, allowing them to create more unique outfits that they can only use in the game.

People have lost plenty of Robux on Classic Fedora as it stands. And if you say that it’s not a copy I apologise but you’re honestly blind. 
From a distance anyone would say that looks like a classic fedora, the same size, same colour, same shape. You have to be very close to make out that it is indeed fake. Furthermore, the value of Classic Fedora has recently dropped, further proving my point that UGC content is one of the worst things to come to Roblox.

It is going to really hurt limited traders. I’ve never been into that, but I have to assume Roblox can see it as well as everyone else.
It’s nice that people can create their own hats and stuff now, but in my opinion they should’ve tackled the clothing bloat and their awful search engine first. I don’t even bother with trying to find new outfits or accessories, navigating the catalog is miserable.
