I’m going to give a talk about books.

I suppose that modern teenagers like reading sci-fi books. I love reading detectives and adventure books and my friends are interested in these types of books too. Of course, teenagers are different and their tastes in reading too, but most of us don’t enjoy reading classical books which we have to read as a part of our Literature course. It happens as we don’t have a right to choose what to read discuss and write essays about.

Libraries are absolutely not necessary now especially for our generation. Every book we need we can download or read online in the Internet. Also there are digital libraries in our e-books and different apps offering us any book we want to find. Probably, it’s not a bad idea to keep libraries only for course books in schools.

I have just finished a detective story the title of which I, unfortunately, don’t remember. As usual, this story is about a witty and brilliant detective who was trying to find the criminals. I was reading it for pleasure and liked it a lot.

I am not into reading very much and I think that my attitude to reading is rather neutral.

I think that’s all that I wanted to tell you about books.

What is your attitude to reading is

I’m going to give a talk about books.

I think that reading is a bit less popular nowadays and we read probably less than our parents did when they were our age. We still read but today we have got a lot of other ways of getting information and entertainment. In a couple of minutes we can find the information we need for our school projects in the Internet instead of going to the library and searching it in a pile of books.

I like reading detectives and adventure books. I read for pleasure and to have some rest from my busy school life. Probably this is the reason why I prefer these genres more than more serious ones.

It’s true that many people prefer e-books to paper books today. I think it’s obvious that it’s more comfortable to have your entire library in a small and not heavy device like e-book. We don’t need to have room to keep piles of paper books. We often pay less for downloading digital version of a book than when we buy a paper one. It’s great that sometimes we can get an e-book even for free.

I am not into reading very much and I think that my attitude to reading is rather neutral.

I think that’s all that I wanted to tell you about books.

What is your attitude to reading is

You are going to give a talk about reading books. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes (10–12 sentences). Remember to say:

— what kind of books modern teenagers enjoy reading;

— whether libraries are necessary nowadays or not, and why;

— what book you have read recently, and what it was about;

— what your attitude to reading is.

You have to talk continuously.

A book has a wonderful power to influence our minds and lives. I believe that modern teenagers read a lot, but I cannot judge about the genre, as tastes differ. I have been reading since I was 5 years old. I remember that my grandma took me to the library, and we chose my first book together. I think that nowadays libraries still play an important role, not only as sources of collections of books but also as cultural centres. For example, I have recently finished » Harry Potter» by a popular British writer J. K. Rowling. I have read it in Russian before, this time I tried my best to read it in English. It is a fantastic adventure story about a young wizard, who survived in a battle when he was a baby. This fact made him special, and he had various issues during his studies at Hogwarts. This is a wonderful captivating universe, that includes 7 books, and we can also watch 8 films. I know that I will definitely read and watch it once again. We have recently had a meeting at the local library, where we were discussing this masterpiece for 2 hours. Every time I read or talk about various books I enjoy every moment. Every book is a source of knowledge and a never-failing friend.

Task 3. You are going to give a talk about reading books. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes (1012 sentences). Remember to say:

You have to talk continuously.

— I’m going to tell you about reading books. Unfortunately, reading is not very popular with teenagers nowadays. I think books are not popular because there are a lot of other sources of information, such as the Internet and television. It’s easier and more interesting for modern teenagers to find information and entertainments there.

As for me, I enjoy reading though I have little time for it. I like different genres of books: novels, detective stories, adventures but most of all I love reading fantasy. These books entertain me and I have great time reading them.

As many other people, I prefer e-books to paper ones. Firstly, they are cheaper and easier to get. Secondly, it’s more convenient to take an e-book with you when you travel, for example. The third reason is that you can work with a text making necessary notes.

I believe reading is very important for my education and development. That’s why I’ve learnt to read fast and try to spend my free time with an exciting book.

That’s all I wanted to say. Thanks for listening.

Task 3. You are going to give a talk about animals. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes (1012 sentences). Remember to say:

You have to talk continuously.

-I’m going to tell about animals. I live in the central part of Russia where a lot of different wild animals inhabit. In the forests you can meet hares, foxes, wolves, elks and dear, boars, minks, bears, lynxes, squirrels and others. Beavers and otters live in the rivers.

They are all wild animals and like to be free though sometimes they need our help. But, in my opinion, to keep them as pets isn’t a good idea. First of all, most of them are predators and that’s why they are rather dangerous. Then, there are so many cute pets that want to be our friends and there is no need to keep a wild animal at home.

To see a wild or an exotic animal we can in zoos. People build zoos in towns and cities not only for entertainment but also for the education of children. Schoolchildren come to the zoo to learn something new, or sometimes to make different projects connected with animals.

As for me, I like only big zoos because they are rich, as a rule, and can keep animals in good conditions.

The Many Benefits of Reading

Beyond reading, because you have to, the importance of reading cannot go unnoticed. Reading is of great value because it provides the means by which you get to:

Strengthens Brain Activity

Reading gets your mind working across different areas. For starters, it involves comprehension to process the words you read. Beyond that, you can use your analytical abilities, stimulate memories, and even broaden your imagination by reading words off a page.

Reading is a neurobiological process that works out your brain muscles. As you do so, you can help to slow down cognitive decline and even decrease the rate at which memory fades. Scientists at the University of California, Berkeley have even found that reading reduces the level of beta-amyloid, which is a protein in the brain that is connected to Alzheimer’s. Who knew that reading could have physical, psychological, and spiritual benefits?

Boosts communication skills

Both reading and writing work to improve one’s communication skills. That’s why if you’re looking to become a better writer, many of the suggestions that you come across will include reading more. Reading can open your eyes, literally and figuratively, to new words. Try this next time you read: if you come across any words you read that you don’t know, take a moment to look them up and write them down. Then, remember to use your new words in your speech so you don’t forget them!

Helps Self-Exploration

Books can be both an escape and an adventure. When you are reading, you have the opportunity to think about things in new ways, learn about cultures, events, and people you may have never otherwise heard of, and can adopt methods of thinking that help to reshape or enhance your identity. For example, you might read a mystery novel and learn that you have a knack and interest in solving cases and paying attention to clues.

Makes One Intellectually Sound

When you read a lot, you undoubtedly learn a lot. The more you read, you can make it to the level of being considered “well-read.” This tends to mean that you know a little (or a lot) about a lot. Having a diverse set of knowledge will make you a more engaging conversationalist and can empower you to speak to more people from different backgrounds and experiences because you can connect based on shared information. Some people may argue that “ignorance is bliss,” but the truth is “knowledge is power.” And, the more you read, the more you get to know! That’s why you can bet that any educational degree you choose to obtain will involve some forms of reading (yes, even math and computer science).

Entertains

It’s no wonder why you may see people reading by the pool, on the beach, or even on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Reading is a form of entertainment that can take you to fictional worlds or past points in time.

Imparts Good Values

Reading can teach values. Whether you read from a religious text or secular text, you can learn and teach the difference between right and wrong and explore various cultural perspectives and ways of life.

Enhances creativity

Reading has the potential to boost your levels of creativity. Whether you read about a specific craft or skill to boost it or you are reading randomly for fun, the words could spark new ideas or images in your mind. You may also start to find connections between seemingly disparate things, which can make for even more creative outputs and expressions.

Lowers Stress

If you don’t think that strengthening your brain is enough of a benefit, there’s even more good news. Reading has also been proven to lower stress as it increases relaxation. When the brain is fully focused on a single task, like reading, the reader gets to benefit from meditative qualities that reduce stress levels.

In fact, we can even bet that you read something every single day ( this blog, for instance), even if it’s not a book. From text messages to signs, emails to business documents, and everything in between, it’s hard to escape the need to read.

Reading opens up doors to new worlds, provides entertainment, boosts the imagination, and has positive neurological and psychological benefits.
