I’m going to give a talk about school uniform.
Probably, it is important to wear uniform at school. Different and bright clothes distract teenagers from the process of learning. More official style helps us to be more serious and better-organized. I understand that there are some advantages of wearing school uniform but still I don’t like it very much.
Every day I wear a white or blue shirt and dark skirt/trousers to school. If it is cold it is possible to wear a jumper or a sweater. For me it’s very important that my uniform is neat and it must suit me.
As all teenagers in the world I’m sometimes lazy and don’t want to go to school but there are some good things about it. I love that I can meet my best friends there as we study at the same school. We can study together and help each other. We have the same interests and a lot of topics to discuss.
As I have already said I don’t like my school uniform very much. I think my school life would be better without it.
I think that’s all that I wanted to tell you about my school life and school uniform.

Школьная форма : за и против (School uniform: pros and cons)
Children of most schools worldwide are required to wear uniform. A school uniform is a dress code to help discipline the students and help them focus on their studies. School uniform has many advantages and disadvantages.
Some people believe school uniform is not a really good idea because it prevents students from expressing themselves and being unique and special. Sometimes school clothing can be quite uncomfortable and old-fashioned. Besides, it can be expensive and not all parents can afford it.
But on the other hand, school uniform saves time getting ready in the mornings because kids don`t have to choose what clothes to wear. Moreover, the uniform makes students feel equal and prevents them from being bullied. Schoolchildren can concentrate on lessons rather than on what others are wearing.
In my opinion, school uniforms have a positive effect as they can help distinguish students from other people. Besides, a uniform can make them feel proud of their school. When children wear the same uniforms, they feel more connected with each other and behave friendly.
What’s the point of school uniform?

A shirt, tie and blazer may not be the ingredients for my favourite outfit, but if I were given the choice, I wouldn’t throw away the idea of school uniform. Wearing a uniform is a badge of pride, creates an identity for a school and is an important part of being a school student.
“Uniforms show that you are part of an organisation. Wearing it says we’re all in this together,” Jason Wing, head teacher at the Neale-Wade academy in Cambridgeshire, says.
“Also, if you wear your uniform with pride, it means you are half way there to being respectful, buying into what the organisation is all about.’’
Claire Howlette, an English teacher, agrees: “Uniforms give students a sense of belonging to a particular school and create an identity for the school in the community.”
My school is one of many that seem to be reverting to a more formal uniform – this September I will be wearing a shirt and blazer instead of my old jumper and polo shirt. A number of students have complained about the change, but general opinion is that the jumpers and polo shirts were “childish”.
A school uniform teaches students to dress smartly and take pride in their appearance. Howlette says: “Uniforms help students to prepare for when they leave school and may have to dress smartly or wear a uniform.”
Some people believe that a school uniform can improve learning by reducing distraction, sharpening focus on schoolwork and making the classroom a more serious environment, allowing students to perform better academically.
Perhaps most importantly, a uniform means students don’t have to worry about peer pressure when it comes to their clothes. When everyone is dressed the same, worrying about what you look like isn’t so important. There is no competition about being dressed in the latest trend, which would put a great deal of financial pressure on students and parents. Potential bullies have one less target for their insults; it’s hard to make fun of what someone is wearing when you’re dressed exactly the same.
In America, where a majority of schools do not have a uniform, roughly 160,000 children miss school every day due to fear of attack or intimidation by other students. This might not be directly linked to what they’re wearing, but having a uniform can be a safety net for many students who might otherwise suffer from bullying. A strict uniform gives the impression that rules are strict too, perhaps helping maintain a sense of order at school.
Although wearing a school uniform is less expensive than buying a whole wardrobe of outfits, uniform can still be pricey. Many schools have a specific supplier, and wearing cheaper alternatives can result in punishment if the black skirt you’re wearing isn’t exactly the right black skirt. Finding uniform that fits you, especially if you’re limited to one shop, can also be a struggle.
Recently the Liberal Democrats held a conference about the cost of school uniforms across England. The education minister David Laws is to issue new guidance to end the practice of using a single uniform supplier, enabling parents to shop around for uniform. If schools decide to change their uniform, for example with a new emblem or colour, changes should be restricted to one or two items, preferably with sew-on logos. Changing from a one-supplier system could help families with the cost of school uniform.
Although it might seem a shame to miss out on those two years of dressing as you like at school, I welcome the smart dress code. Not only does it make getting dressed each morning a lot easier, but it sets sixth formers up as role models for younger students, and that’s important.
Macy Vallance, a year-eight student, says: “I like uniforms because everyone is the same and no one can be left out by the way they are dressed. Our new uniform looks smarter, which is good.”
My uniform might not be what I would wear in my own time, but it gives me a sense of belonging, takes away the pressure of what to wear and deters the bullies. School uniform isn’t fashionable, but that’s exactly why I think it should be here to stay.
Pros and Cons of Wearing School Uniforms
Pros and Cons of Wearing School Uniforms
School Uniforms
There is no right answer to whether students should wear a school uniform or not. In this post you will read about some pros and cons of wearing school uniforms.
From the History of School Uniforms
The first recorded use of school uniforms was in England in 1222. Students at one school were required to wear a robe-like outfit called a ‘cappa clausa.’ However, it wasn’t until the 16th century that modern school uniforms made an appearance in recorded history.
Uniforms were noted to be first recorded in history in 1552 AD. The institution named “Christ Hospital School” in London was the first school to use a school uniform. The uniform consisted of a long blue coat and yellow, knee-high socks. The same theme is very close to the current uniform of the students attending the school today. Charity schools like Christ’s Hospital got the nickname ‘blue cloak’ schools.
Some of the Pros and Cons of Wearing School Uniforms.
The Pros
The Cons
In conclusion, it should be said that school uniforms are effective either way. They were introduced for recognition and the feeling of standing together united. School uniforms were not meant to cause any harm to students.
There’s a reason why some schools require wearing uniforms and some don’t. People will go on discussing the effectiveness of school uniforms. Nowadays schools look for solutions to such problems as attendance, discipline, bullying, student motivation, and family engagement. Can wearing a uniform help decide any of them?

Chapter 3. Conclusion…………………………………
Should schools have uniforms or not? Should students dress the same way or they can wear whatever they like?
At the moment, there is no united school uniform across Russia. But some elite schools, especially in Moscow and St. Petersburg, have their own uniforms to stress specific identity.
However, controversies have never stopped. Some people believe that wearing school uniform can help students foster the sense of discipline and focus on schoolwork, whereas others think that the uniforms humiliate children by limiting their individual character.
My name is Safarova Regina and I am in the 7-th form of Starobaltachevo secondary school №1.I like my school very much. It is very big and nice with a lot of facilities.
The aim of the work is to find out and to discuss if it is good or bad to wear a school uniform.
Hypothesis: if you study at school you must wear in a way your school rules are said.

2. to analyze the questionnaire
3. to sum up given information
1. a search and close study of reference books
The object of our research is school Number 4.
The subject of our research is the uniform at school.
1.1. WHAT IS A SCHOOL UNIFORM?
A school uniform is a standard set of clothing people (usually children) wear when they go to school. It might have a particular color of trousers or skirt, plus a matching shirt and perhaps a jacket or necktie, with matching socks and shoes. (Wikipedia)
The word ‘uniform’ means literally ‘having the same form’. So a school uniform means that every kid in the school wears the same clothes (though girls often have a different uniform to boys).
1.2. The history of the SCHOOL uniform
You may think that school uniforms were only worn by pupils of private schools or upper elite classes, but in fact it was quite the opposite. Uniforms were given to poor communities and schools, known as charity schools that would help children learn to read and write, in England around the 16th century. The uniforms that students would wear consisted of a blue blazer, cap and short trousers, and a brown satchel bag. The reason uniforms were issued was because it would cost less to just make the material for one style of clothing and mass produce them.
Uniforms became more and more popular around the 19th century, mostly in state elementary schools. This was done because times were very dangerous and it helped create order within the communities and let the students focus more on the curriculum than on what they are wearing. Wearing uniforms was just a part of England’s plan to make their schools better. Along with stricter supervision of the students’ lives and morals, and new teaching methods to make the students do better in school. Schools improved a great deal over time just because of school uniforms and the things that changed because uniforms were now mandatory.
In some countries, like Germany, students can wear anything they like when they go to school. In other countries, like England, there is usually a standard dress
code in school, usually a set of dressing for girls and one for boys. Boys and girls need to wear school uniforms when they go to school. In many countries, such as the United States, some schools require wearing a uniform, and some do not.
Traditionally school uniforms have been largely subdued and professional. Many believe that uniforms cut down on individuality. Boys’ uniforms often consist of dark short or long trousers and light-colored shirt, often with a tie. Girls’ uniforms vary greatly between countries and schooling systems, but typically consist of a dress or a blouse and a skirt; some countries allow girls to wear trousers.
Originally, school uniforms were introduced to hide the social differences between students, but uniforms can also help with safety. Using standard uniforms can also save the money needed to buy extra clothes as fashion to impress other people at school. Uniforms can reduce the conspicuous consumption of rich people, who get costly items, which show how much more wealth they have than other people.
In recent times, the introduction of school uniforms has been discussed, but usually the expression «uniform» is avoided in favor of terms like «school clothing.» School clothing has been introduced in a small number of schools. In these cases the clothes are collections of shirts, sweaters, and the like, catering to contemporary fashion senses. Uniforms in a more traditional sense are almost never proposed in earnest.
1.3. A SCHOOL Uniform in Russia
A school uniform came to Russia from England in 1834. The first uniforms were made for boys and some years later for girls. Boys had special shirts, trousers, black boots and a cap. Girls wore brown dresses and aprons.
In 1896 this law started to include form for girls. In Russian school form could be of different kinds. Poor pupils wore form not only at school because they had no money. School uniform was used also in Emperors Russia in the elite school.
But in 1919 school uniform was canceled and pupils could wear what they wanted. In 1949 everything changed in the USSR. New school form was introduced. There were soldier shirts for boys and brown woolen dresses for girls. In 1973 form for boys changed. Boys began to wear grey suits. In 1985-1987 girls began to wear blue skirts and blouses and boys began to wear blue suits.
In 1992 mandatory school uniforms were abolished. Today, there is no unified standard uniform in Russia; however, certain schools may have their own uniform that students are required to wear. Educational institutions without a uniform may also have a certain dress code.
Today two thirds of Russians – 66% – support the introduction of school uniform. Last year, the number was 77%. The main argument of that supporting school uniform is that it will protect social equality among pupils. The supporters of school uniform also believe that it disciplines and creates a good working environment.
Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the idea of introducing school uniform in Russia. “There must be school uniform in our country,” Putin said. He suggested making federal decisions that would oblige the regions introduce uniform and give territories and municipalities a chance to make up their mind regarding the details.
RUSSIAN SCHOOL GRADUATION CEREMONY
There is also modern-day tradition for girls and boys to dress into brown Soviet-style school uniform for their graduation ceremony
2.1. Our Teachers’ Opinion
To find out the teachers’ opinion about school uniform in our school, I took a few interviews. And that’s what they told me. The Head Teacher Fanis Schaimukhamitov because of being busy was brief:
— Uniform is needed. There is a huge difference between a student wearing uniform and a student in different clothes.
2.2. Our Students’ Attitude to School Uniforms
In order to know the opinion of students about school uniform, I conducted a survey.
The questionnaire included three questions:
1. Do we need a school uniform?
2. Do you like our school’s uniform?
3. What would you change in our uniform?
17 students took part in the survey. 10 of them gave the affirmative answer to the first question.
The majority (12 students) like our school’s uniform.
In the answer to the third question nine students would change nothing in the uniform, four people would change the colour, one person would replace the trousers for jeans, one person would change everything and two students would cancel the uniform at all.
The survey results are presented in the diagrams:
Based on these results we can conclude that most of the students approve the school uniform. Moreover, they like it.
Conclusion
The results of my research indicates that, despite the fact that there is no compulsory school uniforms at the present time in our country, many schools impose its own uniform.
A strict dress code at the school creates a business climate necessary for work. Uniform helps to discipline the students that is good for teachers. Uniform makes the lives of parents easier, because they do not have to think every morning, in what clothes to send a child to school. In addition, a school uniform policy helps to avoid competition between the children in the clothes, and thus saves parents’ money.
The presence of a school uniform policy does not deprive the students’ opportunity to express their individuality in clothing. Girls choose blouses they like to match their school uniform. They can be of different styles (classic, sporty, romantic) and colours. Boys can express their individuality in the choice of shirts and ties. School uniform brings a sense of style, form the skill of wearing a business suit.
School uniform makes our parent’s life easier, because they don’t have to think every morning in what clothes to send a child to school. A school uniform helps to avoid competition between children about clothes and thus saves parent’s money.
