My Favorite Book

Reading is an important part of my life. I love immersing myself into an interesting story for an hour or two. For me a book is not just a source of information, it is a world I can visit.

I read books of different genres, but my favorite books are set in fictional worlds. It might be in the future, another universe or a fantasy world. My favorite book is “Six of Crows” by Leigh Bardugo. To be more precise, it is not one book, but a series of two novels – “Six of Crows” and “Crooked Kingdom”. Anyway, they tell one story split into two big parts, so most readers consider them one novel.

“Six of Crows” is an unusual combination of a heist story and fantasy. The story is set in a fantasy world, it begins in Ketterdam – a fictional country inspired by the Netherlands. The main character is a young criminal called Kaz. He is the leader of a group of people with different skills and talents. Besides the leader, the group includes a highly skilled gunslinger, an agile and lightfooted spy, a sorceress, a warrior, and a boy from a rich family, talented in music and demolition. That group is referred to as “Six of Crows”. The main storyline is about the Crows trying to pull off an impossible heist. They need to get into the most guarded fortress in the world and steal something extremely valuable.

The book is full of suspense and plot twists, but I would not say that “Six of Crows” is a plot-based story. In my opinion, it is character-based. The longer we follow the Crows’ adventures, the more we get to learn about them. All of them are interesting, well-written characters. Their backstories are revealed gradually, and we get to know why Kaz never touches people, how Jesper was taught to shoot, and so on. The storyline that I love the most was the one about Nina and Matthias, the sorceress and the warrior. At first, they are sworn enemies – “a witch and a witch hunter”, but then it changes. I think this is the most dramatic and thought-out part of the book.

If you like immersing yourself into a fun story with great characters, I would like to recommend you “Six of Crows”. It is one of the best fantasy books I have ever read. I hope you will enjoy it too.

Read­ing is impor­tant because it devel­ops our think­ing and imag­i­na­tion. I real­ly love read­ing and I think this is my favorite hob­by. If you want to plunge into the mag­i­cal world, then you should read «The Nev­erend­ing Story».

The Nev­erend­ing Sto­ry was writ­ten by Michael Ende in 1979. This is a fas­ci­nat­ing nov­el about a boy who is on an adven­ture in the fairy-tale universe.

The sto­ry begins when the main char­ac­ter, the boy Bas­t­ian, finds a mys­te­ri­ous book. Hav­ing opened it, he imme­di­ate­ly finds him­self in a fan­tas­tic world with unusu­al crea­tures. The princess of the land of Fan­ta­sy falls ill and the fan­tas­tic boy Atreyu must find a human boy who can save the princess. It turns out that this is Bas­t­ian, who must give the princess a new name in order to save her. Bas­t­ian is award­ed with a mag­i­cal amulet, thanks to which he can rule the fan­ta­sy world, and there­fore he leaves real life. At the end of the nov­el, he is giv­en a choice — to stay in Fan­ta­sy or return to the real world.

The book is mar­velous­ly writ­ten, with detailed descrip­tion of char­ac­ters and actions. Although the plot is a lit­tle con­fus­ing, it makes the sto­ry inter­est­ing and thrilling and this is the fea­ture of this book. In addi­tion, it is inter­est­ing that some­times it is impos­si­ble to define the line between fan­ta­sy and reality.

I would rec­om­mend it because it was so drip­ping that while read­ing this book I thought that maybe we are all char­ac­ters in the book too, so you can­not put the book down. Don’t miss the oppor­tu­ni­ty to read this masterpiece.

Freddie Mercury. The Stolen Life

Music and read­ing are my two favoгrite hob­bies, which is why I often read the biogra­phies of musi­cians. Once I was advised to read the book «Fred­die Mer­cury. Stolen Life» by Mari­am Ahun­do­va and this book changed my idea of ​​life and music.

This book was writ­ten by the Russ­ian his­to­ri­an Mari­am Ahun­do­va in 2013, which explored the per­son­al life of Fred­die Mer­cury, the vocal­ist of one of the great­est rock bands «Queen». The book is a rep­re­sen­ta­tive of mod­ern literature.

Basi­cal­ly, it dis­pels all the myths about Fred­die Mer­cury, cre­at­ed after his death and in the last years of his life. The book cap­tures and amazes, open­ing new doors to the world of music and often there is a feel­ing that the author is in front of me and tells this sto­ry himself.

This book made an inde­scrib­able impres­sion on me and I real­ly rec­om­mend to read it to any­one who is into music, espe­cial­ly if you are a fan of the Queen band. How­ev­er, if you are not ready to change your world­view and opin­ion about Fred­die Mer­cury, then nev­er read it.

A book is a door that plunges you into anoth­er world, mag­i­cal and real­ly good. Many peo­ple know this is impor­tant, but not many under­stand why, and the book Fahren­heit 451 explains it perfectly.

Fahren­heit 451 is a book by Ray Brad­bury, pub­lished in 1953, that went on to become a real best­seller. This is a dystopi­an fan­ta­sy nov­el that describes the near future, in which books are pro­hib­it­ed. I often reread this book so as not to for­get about its main purpose.

The pro­tag­o­nist of the nov­el Guy Mon­tag, like oth­er «fire­fight­ers», burns books and hous­es in which they were found. Guy loves to walk at night, and on the next walk he meets his new neigh­bor Claris­sa McLel­lan, who loves nature and is fond of books. Then Guy real­izes that he needs to change his life.

After going through sev­er­al stages of changes and real­iz­ing that the books are not real­ly harm­ful, Guy Mon­tag decides to read the book him­self and imme­di­ate­ly becomes much smarter. Try­ing to under­stand the book, Guy recalls a con­ver­sa­tion with a pro­fes­sor in the park, who told him about a secret soci­ety – «Liv­ing Books». After that, he decides to leave this city and leave with like-mind­ed peo­ple who hold whole books in their heads and are always hap­py to tell Guy a few stories.

This book is very impres­sive because you begin to under­stand what can hap­pen if peo­ple stop read­ing books and how this will affect the future. I def­i­nite­ly rec­om­mend read­ing this book because it has tremen­dous philo­soph­i­cal mean­ing, writ­ten in sim­ple words.

I come from a family of readers.

One of my earliest memories is sitting in my older brother’s room, reading out loud and him getting annoyed with me because I didn’t know how to read ‘in my head’ yet!

Even when I am extremely busy, I still need a book to disappear into before I fall asleep.

Books open new worlds for me, they teach me about places it’s unlikely I will ever visit in real life, they introduce me to new people and sometimes, act as a mirror and reflect my own personality back at me.

Inspired by a feature on Oprah Winfrey’s website, I am going to tell you about five of my favourite books, books that had an impact on my life.

My Favourite Books

1. The Poisonwood Bible

This is the most recent book I’ve read, so it’s fresh in my mind. It tells the story of a family who move to the Congo in 1959 as Christian missionaries. It is told from the viewpoint of five women, a mother and her four young daughters. This book really makes you consider what you think of as ‘normal’. Is it really normal to have electricity, mirrors and freezers?

2. The Faraway Tree

This was my favourite childhood book! It was written in 1939, long before I was born by the famous author Enid Blyton. It tells the story of three children who find a magic land at the top of a tree. Each time they climb up the tree, the land at the top is different, full of new and magical characters. This book was like an escape for me. I always hoped that when I climbed a tree (which I did often much to my Mothers annoyance) there would me magic at the top of it. Most of my friends have read this book and we all remember it fondly.

3. Shantaram

Shantaram, though it was released in 2003, didn’t become popular until around 2007. I read it in about three days, while I was living in Cape Town. Shantaram was influenced by real events in the life of the author and tells the story of an Australian criminal who manages to escape prison and flee to India. It is not just the story that makes this book special, it is the language, which is rich and beautiful. Whilst I was researching this book, I found out the author is writing a sequel, so I am very excited!

4. The Smoke Jumper

I don’t know why I fell in love with this book, but for years I recommended it to all my friends, and still do. It was written by the author of ‘The Horse Whisperer’, Nicholas Evans. The book takes its title from the people employed in The United States, to jump into the centre of forest fires to stop the fires from spreading. The thing I love most about this book, is that it spans a number of years, so we see the protagonists grow and develop.

5. American Ballet Theatre

If you often do my lessons, you may have noticed that I have a massive obsession with dance. I am a professionally trained dancer and though I don’t dance as much anymore, I still have a deep love for it. American Ballet Theatre is one of my favourite company’s and this book is full of backstage information and beautiful photographs. This year, I was able to watch the company from the wings, they are incredible dancers! I was also lucky enough to get my book signed.

Essay on My favourite book

Reading has been an effective tool to discover the life for many centuries. Books can be your guide to living, can develop your understanding of the world around and are also one of the most popular leisure time activities of all.

As for me, I discovered the wonderful world of reading when I was 10. I had read several books before but the book I was presented for my tenth birthday changed my attitude to reading and I started doing it for pleasure. I still remember this story in all details and treat it as my favourite one.

The title of this book is “Five go to Smuggler’s Top” and it is written by Enid Blyton, a famous British writer who wrote series of adventure books for children. My favourite book belongs to one of the most well-known series “The famous five” and tells about the adventures of four children and their faithful dog.

The main characters of the book are siblings Julian, Dick and Ann and their cousin George who is actually a girl whose full name is Georgina. She is my favourite character of this book because of her extremely interesting personality and identity. She has a dog called Timmy who plays an important role in this story. The adventures of these children begin as soon as they arrive to live in Mr. Lenoir’s house. There they meet Mr. Lenoir’s son Sooty who quickly becomes their friend. The key point is that Timmy is not allowed to live in this house so the children have to keep him secretly in the tunnels beneath the house. Using these tunnels to walk Timmy they find out the mystery of smugglers and their criminal activity.

I find this book really fascinating. It keeps your attention from the first page and it’s difficult to predict what is going to happen next. It’s especially interesting to understand who is who and find out the criminals in the end. The children get into troubles constantly and you’re worried about them all the time. I recommend reading this book to all teenagers who are keen on such kind of literature. It is going to blow you away.

To tell you the truth, I can’t say that I have one favourite book. I think, people who love reading have many favourite books. And I really love to spend free time with a book in my hands. I read paper books because I enjoy their smell and sound of turning pages.

One of the books that I have recently read is “The last inch” by James Aldridge. The book is about a former pilot (Ben) who loses his job. What is more, his wife leaves him and he stays with his 10-year old son Davy. Their relationship is not ideal too. They are like strangers to each other.

Once Ben decides to make documentaries about sharks in the Red see to earn money. TV company pays well for such films and Ben wants a job that is not boring. He takes his son with him. Ben dives to shoot the sharks and the boy stays in the boat. A bit later a shark attacks the father.

Ben has a lot of injures on his body but suddenly he realizes that he can’t die. He has to live for Davy. The book tells us about the common struggle of the father and the son for the life. The boy has no other choice as to start flying the plane. In spite of fear he makes the plane to take off.

All the way back Ben is unconscious. And only when they need to land he comes round and helps his son. They come through a lot during these some hours and start to understand more.

You know, I think that “the last inch” is not about the distance between Ben and the shark. Indeed, it’ s about the distance between Ben and his son. At the beginning of the story Ben didn’t love his son as is should be. He thought that Davy was weak and strange. And after the accident Ben looks at the boy in a different way. He starts to seek the way to his son’s heart.

In my opinion, the book teaches us to appreciate people’s relationships. Family bonds are really important. Only family will help you in any difficult situation no matter what.

I’d recommend you to read the book because it tells about things that you don’t think about. We can do more if we have support of our family. We need someone who believes in us and who is always there for us. And such people are our family. The plot of the book really impressed me. This book is thought-provoking and awakes our best feelings. And I consider that we read to start thinking and feeling.
