TRAVELLING
Give a talk on the topic Travelling.
Remember to say:
• why people travel;
• what means of travelling are most popular with people, why;
• what means of travelling are least popular with people, why;
• some words about your last travelling.
People like to travel. That’s why there are so many means of transportation. In the past many people traveled because they wanted to sell their goods or exchange the news. Now people travel on business or for pleasure when they want to see the world, to rest and to have new impressions.
There are many kinds of travelling: by train, by car, by sea, by air by coach. International travelling by coach is rather convenient and very cheap. The coach usually stops at a restaurant or a cafe. There is a toilet in the coach. But sleeping in an armchair can cause problems especially to those who are travel sick.
Travelling by train seems to be the most widespread means of transportation. It is the most convenient means of travel and it is not expensive. People can choose between a carriage with sitting places and a carriage with berths, where they can sleep well if the journey is long. People can go to any place by train because the railway system links practically all the regions of our country.
Travelling by plane is an exciting experience for those who are not airsick. Travelling by plane is rather expensive, though you can choose between economic class and business class. If you have a window seat you will enjoy the view while taking off and landing.
Hiking is the right kind of spending free time. You pack your tent and start walking. It is slow for sure, but you can go wherever you want and stay in the place you liked as long as you want. At the same time, not all people like to walk much, though it is very good for their health.
Many people prefer travelling by car. The advantages of this kind of travelling are that you don’t have to buy any tickets or carry any luggage, you can stop wherever you like and enjoy the surrounding views.
Whatever means of transportation you choose, it is very important to prepare for the trip. First, you have to book a ticket. Then you should think about accommodation and contact the hotel or hostel well in advance. You should arrive at the railway station, coach stop or airport in advance to have time to make sure everything is all right. The air companies require your coming an hour or two beforehand because you have to pass checking in, passport control, X-ray control and if you go abroad you will have to go through the Customs.
MASS MEDIA
Give a talk on the topic Mass Media.
Remember to say:
• what role mass media plays in people’s lives;
• if newspapers and radio are as popular nowadays as they used to be, why/ why not;
• what advantages and disadvantages television brings to our life;
• why the Internet has become so popular nowadays.
There is every reason to believe that mass media play a great role in modern society. Their positive aspects are obvious. They give us useful and interesting information and news and also help us to have an enjoyable free time.
On the one hand, popular TV programmes and newspapers interview people and take their views into consideration, but on the other hand mass media choose certain people to ask questions, describe definite facts and make evaluations. Thus, mass media specialists influence the attitudes of the society towards important events and tendencies.
The most important mass media are newspapers, radio, television and the Internet. Newspapers appeared the first of the listed. The first Russian newspaper was issued in 1702 on the initiative of Peter the Great. It was entitled “Vedomosty”. Now we have all kinds of newspapers- tabloids, sports papers, business papers, kids’ papers and political papers. There are a lot of magazines to all tastes. Both newspapers and magazines are sold in the streets all around the city, but you can also subscribe to any papers and magazines at the post-office. There are daily and weekly papers; weekly, monthly and quarterly magazines.
The principle of television was offered at the end of the19th century by A. di Paiva and the Russian scientist P.I. Bakhmetyev independently. However, only in the 30-s of the 20 th century regular TV broadcasting began in Moscow and St. Petersburg and in the 50-s all over the USSR. The first TV sets’ screens were as big as a pocket book and they were black and white. Nowadays it is impossible to find a house without a TV set. No doubt, that television started to produce great influence on people. It combines all the advantages of other media and satisfies different tastes. TV has become more popular than radio and newspapers. Many programmes keep people informed of current events in politics, sports, and economics. Besides informational programmes, you can watch a lot of entertainments. They let people relax, make them forget about their problems and help them to focus on pleasant things. There is no doubt that different people choose different programmes. Some enjoy detective movies, other are fond of horror films. Some people are interested in music concerts. Others like “soap operas”, chat shows and TV games.
However, nowadays, many programmes and films show too much violence and blood. It is bad for all the people especially for children, because it can damage their ideas of normal life. Another negative influence of TV is that it doesn’t stimulate creative thinking and makes people dependent on the views expressed by others. People begin to forget how to occupy their free time. Television prevents people from communicating with each other, from visiting friends or relatives.
The Internet is the newest kind of mass media. In the Internet people can find any information they need. It can be called a kind of combination of newspapers, radio, TV and computers. All main newspapers and broadcasting companies have their sites in the Internet. So you can find the latest news there without buying a newspaper; you can find there information about different countries, pop stars’ songs and even prepared papers on all topics. Via e-mail and in chat rooms we can communicate with people all over the world.
All the mass media have their advantages. They supply us with political, cultural and other important information, entertain and give food for thought, but they also have some disadvantages. For example, you can watch TV only in the places with the TV aerial and electricity. The worst thing about mass media is advertising. They catch our attention and interrupt broadcasting. It is irritating especially if a good film is interrupted by advertising soap or beer. One more disadvantage is that information is not always reliable especially in the Internet. However, it is hard to imagine modern society without mass media today.

Travelling. Вариант 1
We live in times when it’s rather easy to travel to any point of the planet. So no wonder travelling becomes more popular. What is more, our modern life is impossible without travelling. And there are many reasons for this.
A few decades ago it couldn’t be imagined that we would be able to travel almost everywhere. Now we can travel by different means of transport: by plane, by ship, by train, by car and even on foot. Some people like to travel by plane, because it is the best way to get to a foreign country fast. But others prefer traveling by train. They say that this method is more convenient and cheaper. Anyway, we have got something to choose from. And the way of travelling depends only on our opportunities and preferences.
Another good thing is that travelling helps us live and enjoy life. When we get tired of our daily routine, we need to change the surroundings. And travelling is one of the best way to break the monotony of our life. We travel, see new countries and cities, visit historical places, meet new people and taste different dishes. It brings us new impressions and makes life brighter. And that’s why millions of people all around the world adore travelling.
And finally, it is commonly known that travelling is a very nice activity. It’s the time for relaxation and thinking. Nothing can give us a great deal positive emotions and memories as travelling. It is often said that travelling broadens mind. And personally I believe that it is an undeniable truth.

Travelling. Вариант 2
The best way to break the monotony of our life and learn a lot about different places and cultures in the world is travelling. I think that our modern life is impossible without travelling. People get tired of their daily routine, they need to change the surroundings. So they go to a travel agency, buy tickets to some nice place, pack their suitcases and set off on a journey.
Travelling has a great educational value because it is a chance to meet new people, visit museums and ancient sights, discover different ways of life, taste national cuisines and practice foreign languages. It makes us more appreciative of other cultures. The best way to study geography is to go to distant countries and cities.
We can travel by different means of transport: by plane, by ship, by train, by car and even on foot. It depends on our plans and preferences. Plane is the fastest but the most expensive means of transport. Travelling in a modern train can be very comfortable and enjoyable. We can admire picturesque landscapes from the window and communicate with our companions. When we travel by car we don’t have to buy any tickets or book a hotel, we can stop wherever we want and stay there as long as we like. Travelling on foot (or hiking) is quite popular among young people. It’s really exciting to walk in the countryside enjoying the beauty of hills and valleys, lakes and forests.
My parents spend their holidays travelling too. I was only 4 years old when they first took me to Turkey. That was an unforgettable holiday by the sea. We swam and sunbathed, went sailing and fishing. And we took plenty of beautiful pictures there.
Travelling is great! It can give you a great deal of pleasant emotions and memories. It’s the time for relaxation and thinking. People often return home with a fresh outlook on life and a fantastic zeal to do something good. And they usually say: “East or West – home is best.”

Travelling. Вариант 3
Travelling becomes more and more popular nowadays. Even ten years ago we couldn’t expect that we would be able to travel almost everywhere. Millions of tourists go to different places during the year.
It is said that travelling broadens your mind and it is absolutely true. Even a short trip where you get to know different people and different cultures may change you completely. It has become a usual thing, for example, for American graduates from school to have so called “gap year” when they don’t go to the university but spend the whole year travelling.
Travelling has become much cheaper now. Thousands of people now decide not to go to the travel agency but to organize the trip by themselves. They book the flight and the hotel, organize the entertainment part and enjoy it. While there are still people who prefer organized expensive voyages, there are people that prefer low-cost travelling. It is the type of travelling when you find the cheapest tickets on the plane, travel with your backpack, stay at the host family and have someone from the local people show you their culture.
For many people travelling becomes the way of living. They spend months and years travelling without coming home and seeing their family. They work, travel and enjoy their lives. And in my opinion it is the most important thing — live and enjoy your life.

13 Reasons Why Traveling is Important
Posted on Last updated: August 13, 2022
Traveling is more than just visiting places and taking pictures, it brings out new ideas and perspectives and is a true investment in yourself.
Here are the top reasons why traveling is important.
In today’s data-driven world, the world is (literally) at the tips of our fingers. But while technology allows us to stay connected, it is also more isolating than ever.
With a 24/7 news cycle that often paints a dreary scene, it can be hard to challenge the status quo and understand the world for what it truly is.
I find that one of the best ways to overcome this barrier is to travel as much as you can.
Traveling, as they say, is food for the soul. While you get to unwind and explore the destination, traveling has so much more to offer.
You get to immerse yourself in the culture, cuisine, and nature of every place you visit.
This provides new ideas and perspectives on different subjects as you learn more about the place (and maybe even yourself).

Reasons Why Traveling Is Important
While travel is definitely an indulgence, the returns (although not monetary) are definitely worth the cost. Let’s jump into the reasons why travel is a worthy pursuit.
1. Get out of your comfort zone
While social media gives you virtual access to the world, you also become increasingly comfortable with your surroundings and miss out on forming connections in the real world.
Traveling to new places allows you to break out of your comfort zone and take on new experiences and challenges as you learn more about the world around you.
They say we learn the most when we are uncomfortable and this could not be more true when it comes to traveling. You empathize with the people around you as you understand different cultures and societal norms.
This makes you more confident and independent with time.
2. New cultural experiences
One of the most important reasons why traveling is important is getting to immerse yourself in the local culture. Very often it becomes easy for us to form judgments and opinions on different races and cultures based on what we read online.
But our world is vast and diverse and we are just a small part of it.
Each place has its own unique culture and getting to experience this helps us grow psychologically in a way that no classroom or book ever could. Learning about the culture is more than just seeing the sights and eating the food.
It also involves talking to the locals and understanding their perspective on the world we live in.
This helps you challenge your preconceptions and change them for the better.
3. You get to relax and unwind
In today’s world, we often find ourselves trying to climb up the corporate ladder and get ahead in the rat race. While having a successful career is important, you also need to take a break from the grind to relax and rejuvenate. As they say, one step back, two steps forward.
This is an important reason why traveling is important. Whether it’s lying on the beach in Costa Rica or going on an adventure hike, a break from your 9-5 can do wonders for your mental and physical health.
If you ever feel like a bag of nerves, pack your bags and hop on a flight to a new destination to recharge those batteries. Your future self will thank you!
4. Create some great memories
Some of my best memories are from my travels. Whether it was hiking up Angels Landing at Mt. Zion National Park or taking a boat ride in the Venice canals, traveling has helped me create memories that last a lifetime.
Visiting the sights is great but as they say, it’s about the journey and not the destination. The people you meet along the way and the experiences you have with your friends are what sticks with you long after your travels. When visiting a new place, stay curious.
Live as the locals do and forge those connections with the people around you. Your travels will take you on an adventure and help you create those timeless memories.
5. You learn to live in the present
The word ‘busyness’ has become a buzzword these days and a mantra for the way we live our lives.
With overpacked schedules and a never-ending to-do list, we become so addicted to ‘what’s next’ that we forget to live in the present.
Traveling is a great way to break away from this hamster wheel of life and embrace the beauty of the world we live in.
While travel involves a constant state of motion, it helps you focus on the adventure ahead.
When looking upon the serene Parisian landscape while standing on top of the Eiffel tower, you learn to appreciate the moment and stop obsessing about the future.
As they say, there’s no time like the present.
6. You meet new people
Traveling to a bucket-list destination is not just about seeing the sights and eating the local delicacies but also a great way to meet new people.
Whether it’s the locals or a group of like-minded travelers, the memories you make through your interactions with others could either be fleeting or life-changing.
Meeting new people can introduce you to a whole new way of life and thinking. This helps you challenge your perceptions or misconceptions while creating a sense of community.
Although we may differ in our culture and appearance, we all strive for the same goals and aspirations.
There are a limitless number of ways to meet new people in a city.
You could stay in hostels, visit the local bar or restaurant and even take a tour of the city to immerse yourself in the culture while you meet new people.
GetYourGuide offers a variety of guided tours in cities all over the world.
7. You’ll have exciting stories to tell
Everyone loves a good storyteller, and your experiences from your travels around the world are guaranteed to make your tales more interesting.
As you experience new cultures and meet new people, your perspective starts to evolve.
Your learnings can shed new light on social situations and bring new ideas to those who have preconceived notions of a place or country. You can even put your stories on paper and start a blog to share your experiences with a larger audience.
A funny anecdote or a life-changing experience will make you quite the conversationalist.
8. Eat local delicacies
Food has the ability to satisfy your taste buds but also provides an insight into the culture of the place.
When I was in Italy, gorging on bowls of pasta cooked in rich Bologna sauce, taught me the importance of food in the Italian culture and the amount of soul and effort that goes into each meal.
The country, although known primarily for its pasta around the world, actually has a unique cuisine that is authentic to each region.
Each local dish is a reflection of the place (for instance and Napoli-style pizza from Naples, Italy) and carries its own history.
In this sense, food isn’t just a means for sustenance but a way to immerse yourself in the local culture.
Next time you visit a place ask the locals about the history of a certain delicacy, you’d be surprised by what you learn.
9. Helps you stay healthy
In addition to the excitement and adventure that travel brings, another reason why traveling is important is its ability to lower stress levels while improving your physical and mental health.
Traveling doesn’t just mean involving visiting exotic destinations, even taking a road trip to your own country can do wonders for your well-being.
When it comes to physical health, traveling to a new place means that you’re always on the move. With new places to see, this is a great way to burn those calories while doing something fun.
But the mental health benefits of traveling are just as great. Your mind is constantly challenged when you learn new things. As you expand your horizons, it keeps your brain active.
This has proven to have long-term health benefits.
10. You know what’s important
When things get hard, you often feel like the burden of the world is on your shoulders. But we need to remember that the world is large and we are just one small part of it.
Traveling has the ability to help you realize the true value of living life to the fullest.
When you look back on your life, it’s not the material possessions that you will remember but rather the experiences you’ve had, the people you met, and the incredible places you saw during your travels.
Although wealth and success can seem like the end goal, the experiences and memories you make are just as important.

11. You’ll see incredible places
Our world is filled with breathtaking destinations, both natural and manmade and one can wonder if a single lifetime would be enough to see everything. St. Augustine once said that “the world is a book, those who do not travel, only read one page.”
The power of wanderlust is real and almost every place in the world has something unique to offer. Whether it’s climbing the highest mountain range or enjoying a drink on the beach, you will be inspired by the beauty of each destination.
The experience of seeing a stunning place is something that can’t be replaced by material possessions- and you’ll even get a great Instagram picture out of it.
12. You learn new languages
A language is an important tool that has the ability to shape your view of the world. Even if you’re not fluent in the language of the places you visit, even learning a few local phrases can have an impact on your experience.
Certain words in languages like German and Japanese don’t even have an English translation.
Knowing how to say a few phrases in the local language is not just incredibly useful but can also give you a greater perspective on the culture.
You can even make friends with the locals and show off your language skills.
13. You appreciate your home
They say that home is where the heart is but this might not be the case if you never actually leave home. What makes your house a home is that you have somewhere to go after your time on the road.
While your return to normalcy can seem underwhelming, this is actually far from the truth.
When you come home from your travels, you’re filled with new thoughts and ideas- maybe even a whole new take on life.
This helps you see things differently in your day-to-day life and may be just the change you needed.
People that don’t have a change of scenery can often take what they have for granted. While traveling is great for exploring your wanderlust, it also helps you appreciate home.
A few final words about travel
There are a number of reasons why traveling is important. While it gives you the opportunity to unwind and see the sights, traveling also lets you immerse yourself in the local culture and learn more about the world than you could from any book.
Having the ability to use the information around you to break barriers and common misconceptions is a powerful thing.
Media and books can give you all the information you need about a place but visiting a destination and speaking with the locals is the most effective way to learn and comprehend societal issues.
Traveling gives you the ability to form decisions and opinions based on your views and is a true investment in yourself.
We hope this article on the reasons why traveling is important will inspire you to visit your bucket-list destination this year!

I literally have no idea what I’d be doing if I wasn’t travelling.
But I’m fairly sure I wouldn’t feel half as happy or fulfilled.
Indeed, I’ve been on the road for a while now and my time away from home has made me realize just how much I love to travel full time, and how uninterested I am in going back to an ‘ordinary life’!
For now, I love travelling and am totally content on the road, looking to the next adventure and earning money as I go.

My Love for Travelling: 100 Reasons I Love to Travel
I love travelling because I get to…
1. Explore New Countries (the #1 Reason Why I Love Traveling!)
Seeing new places is the number one reason to travel!
You get to see new parts of the world. You realise very quickly how much is out there, and how unique each new place can be. I want to travel to every country in the world!
2. Experience New Cultures
I love to travel and experience new cultures.
The values, ideals, history, and art of each new place you go is always a unique and intoxicating shock to the system.
3. Experience New Ways of Life
Go travelling and understand how your way of doing things isn’t necessarily the right way of doing things! You get to see how other people go about their lives.
4. Meet New & Different People
Why do people like to travel?
One reason is because of the people you meet on the road. Strangers become best friends very quickly. You hang out with people from all different countries and walks of life and get on amazingly all the same.
5. Meet the Locals
It’s easy to only spend time with travellers when you’re on the road. But meeting and interacting with the locals is always a highlight. This is how you really start to learn about a country- by talking and sharing with local people.
6. Have Travel Romances & Relationships
Something about travel lends itself to relationships! Remember, you’re meeting masses of likeminded people. Statistically speaking, you’re bound to fancy at least one of them…
7. Eat New & Exotic Foods
Oh man, the food. This is reason enough to explore new countries! You get to eat real, fresh, local food. It’s often stupidly cheap and tastes like 5* cuisine.
8. Witness Incredible & Diverse Beauty
This would be one answer I’d give somebody who asked me ‘why do you like travelling so much?’:
You see the world and all of its immense beauty.
It’s in the landscapes, the scenery, the atmosphere, the wildlife, the history, the people. Going to new places confronts you with beauty you’d only ever seen on TV before.
9. Climb Mountains
On to some of the practical joys of travelling. Climbing mountains is number 1. It depends where you are, obviously, but getting outside and climbing a mountain is always a fun, challenging thing to do. It’s also a prime way to witness that beauty I mentioned first-hand.
10. Swim in Oceans
Being next to water is my happy place. You can’t beat swimming in crystal clear, warm and tropical turquoise waters. Again, it’s more beauty to be enjoyed.
I love travelling. You get to spend time in some of the most beautiful places in the world, like this beach in Thailand.
11. Laze on Golden Beaches
Where there’s tropical water there’s almost always a sandy beach to laze on after a swim. It’s the picture of paradise, and you get to be there at its centre.
That idea probably explains peoples’ love of travel better than any other!
12. Bathe in Waterfalls
You’ll almost certainly get to see your fair share of waterfalls while travelling! Ducking your head under and having a natural power shower is always amazing.
13. Explore Ancient Ruins & Temples
Do you like to travel? Don’t know yet? Well, you’re sure to love traveling if you’re a history buff.
It’s hard not to feel in awe when you step foot through ancient ruins and temples. You know people were there, exactly where you’re standing, thousands of years before you. It’s very very cool.
14. See Historic Monuments
Same goes for famous monuments (I’m thinking things like the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, the Tower of London, and the Golden Gate Bridge…etc). You set foot upon buildings and structures that are famous around the world.
15. Experience New (& Sometimes Ancient) Art
The other day I went for a walk to see some Aboriginal artwork.
There were children’s handprints made of red ochre laid upon the rock, which had been made thousands of years earlier. It was genuinely awesome to see. Travel does that. You see the art (new and old) of current and ancient civilisations.
I think it’s a key reason that, as people, we love to travel.
16. Experience Foreign Architecture
Modern global cities aside, you get to see the unique architecture styles of different countries. Some places are renowned for their architecture. This isn’t my favourite part of travelling, but it’s still cool to see the buildings of other places (past and present).
17. See Wonders of the World (a Major Love of Travel for Many People)
Some parts of the world just shouldn’t be missed. Iconic places like the Grand Canyon and Machu Picchu are genuine world wonders that’d surely blow your mind.
18. See Insane Natural Phenomena
The natural world boasts some crazy stuff to see. Things like the northern lights are high up on my bucket list. Going travelling puts you in front of startling displays of nature.
19. See Crazy Wildlife
Same goes with wildlife. I was born and raised in cities. The most interesting wildlife I saw (outside of zoos) were squirrels and foxes! There’s always cool wildlife to see close to home. But it’s always special to see exotic animals in otherworldly environments on foreign shores.
20. See Things with Your Own Eyes
One of the greatest parts of travel, for me, is just seeing things first hand. You aren’t seeing an edited version of events via screen. You aren’t hearing about it and getting glimpses of it through other people. No, you’re actually there in the thick of it.
I think seeing things with your own eyes is another reason why we love to travel.
21. Get Out of Your Bubble
Life can seem like a bubble. You see the same people, do the same things, and spend time in the same places…It’s easy to live the same routine day in and day out for years. Travel helps you step outside of that. You realise there’s far more out there to see and do.
22. Realize Your Way Isn’t Necessarily the Right Way
I think this one stems from meeting new people, stepping out of your bubble and experiencing new ways of life. All three factors interact and deliver the obvious conclusion that you way of walking through life isn’t necessarily the only way to do it.
You learn from others, try new things, and develop personally as a result.
23. It Isn’t an Office
My tongue is firmly in my cheek for this one. But, let’s face it, anything is better than an office, right? It is for me, anyway. Life can get boring. It’s easy to get trapped.
I like travelling because it breaks those chains and pushes you into new and exciting situations.
24. Have an Adventure
On that note: travel and adventure go hand in hand. When I was younger this is what I dreamed about. I wanted to go exploring and adventuring around the world. Travel is a natural part of that process.
25. Test Yourself
It isn’t always easy, though. In fact, it’s sometimes exceptionally tough. It’s tiring, lonely, and full over discomfort all around. You’re pushed out of your comfort zone a lot.
That’s no bad thing, though. Life can get very cushy. Suffering a little bit is a great tool for growth.
26. Do Something Different
This is another big one for me and others. We love travelling because we want to live an extra-ordinary life. I don’t want to do the same old thing over and over again, if I can help it.
‘It isn’t the years in the life, but the life in the years, that counts’
I want to look back on my time and feel as if I’ve really lived. I love travelling around the world because it makes me feel like I’m doing exactly that.
27. Try New Diets
I’ve already mentioned the exotic foods you’ll try. This one’s a bit different, though. Depending on where you are, you may have to switch up your diet entirely.
For example, when I was in Sri Lanka I ate a vegetarian diet because that’s all that was served in my homestay. Now, in Australia, I’m travelling with a vegan, so I’ve been eating neither meat nor dairy for 6 months or so!
28. Learn More about Yourself
It’s hard to go travelling and not discover stuff about who you are. This is actually one reason I wanted to travel in the first place.
Everything about it forces self-discovery upon you. You’re fending for yourself thousands of miles from home. It’s natural to be confronted with both the good and bad aspects of your character.
29. Discover Hidden Talents
You’ll find yourself doing things you would never have imagined possible. You might discover a knack for negotiating, riding a scooter, living with few possessions, cooking for yourself, meditating, and so on.
30. Figure Out What You Want from Life
Again, more learning. This time it’s about your future and where you see yourself. I think this is a natural outcome of learning more about who you are. What you want to do ends up as a natural by-product of that. You might even surprise yourself with what you decide.
Why do people like to travel? Lazing in hammocks on a tropical beaches is one compelling reason I can think of! It’s definitely one reason I enjoy travel.
31. Realize Your Issues
There’s nothing quite like travel for highlighting your issues, insecurities, and neuroses. Again, that’s no bad thing. Knowing about them is the first step in dealing with them.
32. Overcome Your Issues
Following on from the last point. Travelling can offer a guiding hand to help you handle the personal issues you discover. It gives you time to contemplate, situations to overcome, and lovely new friends to support you.
33. Challenge Your Fears
I jumped out of a plane in New Zealand a few years ago. I hate heights. I still hate heights, but I’m far better with them now. That’s just one example of how travelling with confront you with scary situations for you to overcome.
34. Challenge Your Assumptions
All of us are full of hidden prejudices, beliefs and assumptions. Travel can expose and overturn them.
As a very basic example, you might assume that poor people are unhappy. Seeing poverty in third world countries can instantly challenge that.
35. Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone
I think I’ve already mentioned this in another point. However, it’s worth re-emphasising. Travel is tough! Unless you’re just lying on a beach somewhere, you’ll be tired, uncomfortable, and challenged at every turn.
36. Try New Things
I love travelling and exploring because you do new stuff every single day. It’s almost impossible not to. Again, that’s unless you spend your days lying on a beach. Don’t do that (too much).
37. Make Incredible Memories (a Major Reason I Enjoy Traveling So Much)
Everything I’ve mentioned so far (and will go on to talk about) helps you create incredible memories to relive throughout your life.
It’s said that all we are is a system of memories anyway. If that’s the case, then I’d rather be a system of awesome and adventurous ones.
38. Gain New Stories to Tell
All those new memories deserve to be shared. You’ll never be short of a story when you’ve been travelling.
39. Experience Freedom
I hate feeling stifled and restricted. I’ve realised more recently that I also like being my own boss. Why do people travel? Because it’s the ultimate freedom. You decide what you do and where you go at all times.
40. Experience Independence
For me, independence goes hand in hand with freedom. I’m not reliant on anyone else. If I wish it, it’s literally me versus the world. That can be a scary prospect at times, but it’s liberating too.
Wondering why people travel? I think it’s partly to experience true freedom and independence. I think it’s a major reason you’ll love to travel as well.
41. Experience True Happiness
Why travel? So you can feel happy!
I’ve never felt happier than I have on the road. Everything I’ve just talked about lends itself to true, deep and long-lasting happiness.
42. Experience True Human Kindness
You come across some beautiful people on the road. You know, the ones that make you feel downright self-centred by the simple virtue of their kindness and generosity?
You’ll find yourself in a fair few pickles on the road. You’ll also come across your fair share of awesome people willing to lend a hand, asking nothing in return.
43. Become More Aware of Tricksters
That said, there are also a fair few people who’ll try and take you for a ride. These people aren’t as nice, but they still help out in their own way.
You learn who you can and can’t believe, and to trust in your gut. Those are two invaluable life lessons.
44. Become More Assertive
Travelling can teach you to be more assertive in yourself. There may be times when people and situations make you feel uncomfortable. There may, in worst case scenarios, be a level of danger as well.
Assertiveness is a useful trait that enables you stand up for yourself and not bow to peer pressure. Travel can help you find it within yourself.
45. Enjoy Off the Beaten Track Experiences
Sticking to the tourist trail can be awesome. But it’s when you step away from it that the magic can really happen. Away from the hubbub and fuss, you stumble across moments in time that you’ll never forget.
46. Find Hidden Gems
These off the beaten track experiences also have a habit of exposing hidden gems. Tourist trails are, by definition, popular. That’s where everyone goes.
But it’s the back alleys, lost temples, and forgotten hot spots where the magic really lays. Discovering these hidden gems is another reason everybody loves travel so much!
This is where interacting with the locals can be so helpful. They’ll tell you about the lesser known places to explore.
47. Appreciate Home Comforts More
It’s insanely easy to take home comforts for granted. Travelling basically takes you away from them all! Wave goodbye to your bed, your mum’s cooking, constant WiFi connectivity, and, often, quality infrastructure. You don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone!
48. Appreciate Friends & Family More
The same goes for the people back home. In the inevitable moments of homesickness, you’re sure to feel their absence. You’ll realise how lucky you are to have these people who you in your life.
49. Appreciate Modern Technology
You’ll value the technological side of things as well. That’s particularly true when there’s no internet where you are. However, when it is available, you’ll appreciate just how incredible modern tech has become.
Take the ability to instantly connect with friends and family, for example. It’s genuinely amazing. You can be on the other side of the world and see their faces as if they were right there.
50. Appreciate the Simple Things
A big reason for the trip is that travel strips you back to basics. With just a backpack, you can’t take all of your home comforts with you!
Suddenly, the simple things make a big difference. It’s having the time to just sit and do what you want. It’s the freedom to explore. It’s the appreciation of having a hostel bed to sleep in.
Spending time with the local people of a country is always a highlight of the trip. It’s another reason I love travelling and exploring new places.
