Truly speaking I’ve got several sites I visit most often.

I often address to “VK” where I can chat with my friends, listen to my favourite music, watch videos, learn the news, find information / help / improve my knowledge on the subjects I study at school such as Mathematics, History, …

I can find useful information about rules and tests for the Central Testing on “….”

When I want to get the news, weather forecast or just chat, I go to “Mail.ru”.

If I want to download or listen to music, I visit “Muzofon.com”.

If I want to master my knowledge in Maths or Physics, I go to the educational sites like MOIRO

I can watch the latest movies without leaving my room on “…”.

But my favourite is “…”

2. Are all means of communication really effective? Why or why not?

When we speak about communication we usually mean the process by which people communicate with each other or get some information. We can get information from newspapers, radio, television; from the people we know: parents, friends, acquaintances.

Most often I and my friends talk and I exchange the information we need on the mobile.

As for the news and necessary information … For me the main resource is the Internet. I’ve got the access through my mobile (phone). At any moment I can learn what’s happening in the world and share the news with my friends wherever I am and whenever I want.

I don’t listen to the radio and I don’t watch TV much. Though my parents do.

As for the newspapers I think they can’t follow the news as quickly as it comes. But my grandparents subscribe to «RESPUBLIKA» for many years and aren’t going to stop it.

So I believe nowadays the most effective means of communication is the mobile phone with the access to the Internet where you can find news, information and new friends.

3. Your British friend wants to become a journalist. What questions will you ask him/her?

Belarus is a little spot on the map of Europe. But it’s still in the middle of European crossroads. And Belarusian mass media are responsible for the impression the world has about our country.

I would recommend a British friend to subscribe to our national newspapers like “BELARUS SEGODNYA” or “RESPUBLIKA”

Besides he could learn news about Belarus from the site TUT.BY.

As far as learning the Belarusian language is concerned he can find rules and exercises on “50 languages” and “movanova.by”

5. Do you think newspapers will disappear in twenty years’ time? Why or why not?

I believe most of them will. Each mass medium has its own advantages and disadvantages. As for me I can read all newspapers on the Internet. I can do it using either my mobile or the computer. But of course our parents and grandparents prefer to read newspapers. They say there’s nothing like the smell of paper and the rustle of pages. Besides you can’t always find local news in the Internet. But still in our fast changing world nobody could predict what will happen to the world even in 5 years’ time. That’s why I would be very careful in predicting the future.

The mass media play an important role in our lives. Newspapers, radio and especially TV inform us of what is going on in this world and give us wonderful possibilities for education and entertainment. They also influence the way we see the world and shape our views.

Of course, not all newspapers and TV programmes report the events objectively, but serious journalists and TV reporters try to be fair and provide us with reliable information.

It is true that the world today is full of dramatic events and most news seems to be bad news. But people aren’t interested in ordinary events. That is why there are so many programmes and articles about natural disasters, plane crashes, wars, murders and robberies. Good news doesn’t usually make headlines. Bad news does.

Some people say that journalists are given too much freedom. They often intrude in people’s private lives. They follow celebrities and print sensational stories about them which are untrue or half-true. They take photos of them in their most intimate moments. The question is — should this be allowed?

The main source of news for millions of people is television. People like TV news because they can see everything with their own eyes. And that’s an important advantage. Seeing, as we know, is believing. Besides, it’s much more difficult for politicians to lie in front of the cameras than on the pages of newspapers.

Still, many people prefer radio. It’s good to listen to it in the car, or in the open air, or when you do something about the house.

Newspapers don’t react to events as quickly as TV, but they usually provide us with extra details, comments and background information.

The Internet has recently become another important source of information. Its main advantage is that news appears on the screen as soon as things happen in real life and you don’t have to wait for news time on TV.

Средства массовой информации играют важную роль в нашей жизни. Газеты, радио и особенно телевидение, сообщают нам о том, что происходит в этом мире и дают прекрасные возможности для обучения и развлечений. Они также влияют на то, как мы видим мир и формируют нашу точку зрения.

Конечно, не все газеты и телевизионные программы освещают события объективно, но серьезные журналисты и тележурналисты стараются быть справедливыми и предоставлять нам достоверную информацию.

Это правда, что сегодня мир полон драматических событий и большинство новостей кажутся плохими. Но люди не заинтересованы в обычных событиях. Поэтому есть так много программ и статей о стихийных бедствиях, авиакатастрофах, войнах, убийствах и грабежах. Хорошие новости как правило, не делают заголовки. Плохие новости делают.

Некоторые люди говорят, что журналистам дается слишком много свободы. Они часто вторгаются в частную жизнь людей. Они преследуют знаменитостей и печатают сенсационные рассказы о них, которые являются ложными или наполовину правдивыми. Они фотографируют их в самые интимные моменты. Вопрос — должно ли это быть разрешено?

Основным источником информации для миллионов людей является телевидение. Людям нравятся телевизионные новости, поскольку они могут увидеть все собственными глазами. И это важное преимущество. Ninety-eight percent of us have a TV set at home. According to the public opinion polls, the average viewer watches TV as much as 25 hours a week. Television informs, educates and entertains people. It also influences the way people look and makes them change their views.

On the one side, watching television is probably the easiest way of spending free time. Though it is not a good way even if programmes contain nothing negative. TV can be blamed for turning people into «coach potatoes» as it is very easy to start watching it and sometimes difficult to stop. The whole families can glue to the box in the evenings. Besides, the members of the family often prefer lying on the coach and watching their own TV to communicating with each other.

On the other side, for lonely or elderly people television can be a good thing as it is cheap and convenient form of entertainment. It can be an ideal way to relax wihout turning into a TV addict.

All in all, television is informative, useful, entertaining and relaxing — and yes, banal and boring. We need to be selective, otherwise we have only ourselves to blame.
