What people like doing while travelling
I’m going to give a talk about travelling.
It’s true that most people enjoy travelling a lot. They are interested in travelling because it’s a good chance to discover new places and find out about people who live far away. If we are talking about travelling abroad, it’s the best opportunity to study customs and cultures of different countries.
While travelling people often go sightseeing and take pictures of the most famous places all over the world. I mean real symbols of the cities like Eiffel tower in Paris. Many people love trying national cuisine and they visit a lot of local cafes and restaurants. Some people are interested in such cultural places like museums and cathedrals. Tastes are different.
As for me I would like to visit the USA or the UK. I’m studying English and I’m sure that a trip there will help me to improve my English a lot. Also I want to see by myself all these beautiful places which I was reading in my course books about.
I am a big fan of travelling so, of course, my attitude to it is very positive.
I think that’s all that I wanted to tell you about travelling.

I think that most people enjoy travelling because it gives them an opportunity to meet new people. Also it’s a good chance to find out interesting historical facts. I guess that the majority of tourists spend time attending museums and theaters. Moreover, tourists like to watch popular monuments of the country. Also it’s a great way to examine a foreign culture. Why do most people enjoy travelling?
What do people like doing while travelling?
What place would you like to go to? Why?
I’d like to tell you about travelling.
Every year a lot of people spend their holidays travelling. There are many reasons for it. Firstly, people travel the globe to see other countries and continents, modern cities and the ruins of ancient towns. Secondly, they travel to enjoy picturesque places or just for a change of scene to relax and forget about the stresses and worries. Moreover, travelling has always been a part of people’s education. The best way to study geography is to travel and the best way to get to know and understand the traditions and customs of different people is to speak to them. Besides, travelling is a good way to practice foreign languages. It goes without saying that it’s always exciting to discover new places and new ways of life, to try local cuisine and listen to unusual musical rhythms. It’s much better than sitting at home and doing nothing.
While travelling people can do different activities to their liking. They can just lie on white sandy beaches and sunbathe or they can take part in different activities such as extreme sports: jet skiing, windsurfing, sky diving and others.
As for me I’d like to go to England, the country whose language I’m studying. England is considered to be the country of castles. Also, I’d like to visit London, the capital city and its famous landmarks such as Buckingham palace, the Tower of London, London Eye, Madam Tussaud’s and others. I would also like to enjoy open fresh air in parks^: Hyde Park, Green park, Kensington gardens, to visit London Zoo, the biggest in Europe.
That’s what I wanted to tell you.
Free Time
Have you got a lot of free time? Why, or why not?
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
What are your Sunday afternoons like?
Nowadays teenagers don’t have enough leisure (free) time as they have to study hard at school. The curriculum is rather difficult and I need much time to do my lessons. More than that this year I am especially busy because of the exams. Every day I have to do my homework, revise the material for exams on my own and what’s more I attend some extra classes. In addition, I usually have to help my parents about the house. These are all sorts of cleaning, washing, going shopping and babysitting with my younger sister.
After a hard work we should have a rest. As they say “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. Today we have lots of possibilities to spend our free time with pleasure. First of all, I think we must do sports such as swimming, jogging, skateboarding, bike riding, BMX, playing football, hockey and so on. Sport helps us to keep fit. As for me I am good at basketball. Then I prefer watching TV, listening to music and playing the guitar. My favourite singer is ( Dima Bilan). Once or twice a month I go to the theatre or concert with my family or classmates. Next I am fond of playing computer games, e-mail texting, chatting with my friends in the Internet and reading.
I think it’s the best time for me to spend my free time and not to feel bored.
On Sundays I get up later than usual. Then my family and I have breakfast. I adore my mum’s pancakes, cookies and salads. After that I do my homework if I have, watch TV, read a book or help my mum about the house. Next I meet my friends and we go to the cinema, sport club or just walk in the park. What’s more there is a very cool Zoo in our city. You can wander there and enjoy watching funny monkeys and raccoons, beautiful peacocks or graceful deer. Sometimes I either visit my grandparents or relatives or they come to our place. We like to be together as we are a really friendly family.
That’s how I spend my Sunday afternoons.
Public holidays in Russia
What public holidays are celebrated in Russia?
What is your favourite public holiday and why do you like it?
How is your favourite public holiday celebrated in your city?
Every country has its own national holidays/ but there are holidays that are common for many countries. People all over the world know New Year’s Day, Christmas and Easter. In Russia New Year’s Day is the most popular holiday, but in the West people pay more attention to Christmas.
State or public holidays in Russia include Constitution Day, New Year’s Day, Motherland Defender’s Day, the Women’s Day, May Day, Victory Day and Independence Day.
State organizations, bank and companies do not work on these days. People spend holidays time with their families and friends.
In my opinion it is very important that traditions survived in our country. That’s why a lot of people follow old traditions and celebrate Russian holidays.
Personally I enjoy celebrating holidays. I think it’s a good way to bring the family together besides it’s a good chance to meet all your friends and relatives.
The holiday that makes me especially proud is the Victory day. It commemorates the victory of our country in the Second World War.
It is the day when we remember the heroic deeds of our grandfathers during the Great Patriotic war. The holiday is celebrated all over the country. There are patriotic films on TV; you can also see the demonstration of combat machines in Red square and the parade of the veterans on this day we give them presents and flowers. In the end I can say that every holiday is nice.

10 Benefits of Travelling
Why do people travel?
The answer is simple: we love it!
We enjoy the slow and peaceful breakfasts, the long walks, the new experiences, places, people and memories. They make us feel happy we are alive. No wonder! Travelling seems to combine most of the habits of healthy people.
What are the advantages of travelling? Why is travelling important?
The importance of travel ranges from lower chances of heart disease to relieving stress and anxiety. On top of the health benefits, travel can also enhance your creativity, your sense of happiness and satisfaction.
If you still need additional excuses/ reasons for why you should travel, read on to find out more about the main benefits of travelling the world!
We help you get compensation for delayed and cancelled flights in the last 3 years.

When you travel, you:
1. Achieve peace of mind
Most of us live in the city. Our daily routine involves navigating through urban landscapes on crowded public transport in chase of our busy schedules. Gradually stress accumulates. Problems loom large, burnout makes us feel dissatisfied with out job, we never seem to find time for adventure.
Travel is your cure!
Travelling can disconnect you from your daily routine. Once you break the repetitive pattern, pack your bags and hit the road, your mind can reset. Seeing new places, meeting new people, overcoming various challenges may even help you appreciate what you have left behind. It can help you take a step back and think about things and people you miss. You can get a better perspective on your life and remember all the good things.
Travelling lets you live life for its own sake!
2. Enhance your creativity
One of the biggest benefits of Travelling is that it takes you out of your comfort zone. Especially if you are travelling to a place you have never visited before, everything seems fresh and new. New stimuli attack all your senses. You see new landscapes and experience vivid colours. You hear new music, people speak an unknown language in the streets, which overflows with the new scents smells. The smell and the taste of new food. Even the small challenges are welcome. How do you hold chopsticks? How do you bargain at the market? How do you find your way around?
Travelling introduces novelty to your brain and improves cognition. Once you face new challenges, you need to be resourceful to find a solution. New neural connections are created in the brain as a result, and they engender new original thoughts.
So once you return home, you can use all these new stimuli and creativeness to generate new ideas in your old job!
» To roam the roads of lands remote, To travel is to live. «
Hans Christian Andersen
3. Improve your communication skills
Are you a fan of international travel? Do you prefer remote and exotic locations?
Then you have probably been to places where your native language is not spoken. Sometimes you need to be quite ingenious when trying to relate with the locals. At one point you realise that every attempt to find a place or buy something involves a lot of pointing and gesturing. But gradually you pick up words. Izquierda, mañana, dim sum, bossa nova, sushi, pastrami, gelato. Most of these you can smell, hear, taste and feel!
Meanwhile, you are also learning a lot about a new way of life, a new culture. You may even find new friends and expand your real-life social network. Especially if you are a fan of couchsurfing.
Another advantage of Ttravelling is that it also makes you interesting. Once you get back home, everyone will want to hear about your adventures and the new friends you found, or hear the new words you’ve learnt.
4. Broaden your horizons
How do we meet the world? Books, the Internet, TV news and documentaries tell us about distant countries, people and their way of life. However, a TV report presents to you someone else’s point of view and may very well narrow your perspective instead of broadening your mind.
Travelling the world and meeting people living in different conditions and treating life differently is what really teaches you about the world. Once you actually go and visit, you may even challenge your own opinion about less known places and cultures.
Discovering new cultures can also help you see the issues and the challenges of your daily life in a new way.
» The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page. «
5. Boost your confidence
Travelling to new lands has its benefits but it also comes with its challenges.
I’ve heard my share of scary stories. A huge bull blocking the narrow mountain path you have taken. A rickshaw man takes a side street and suddenly you find yourself in a gloomy slum. You ask the locals for directions and they take you to the neighbourhood chief who looks like the gangsters in movies. And what is really scary is that you are alone in an unknown place. You cannot rely on friends and relatives, or even on your language skills.
This is why how travelling forces you to be resourceful and teaches you how to cope with obstacles. Overcoming various challenges turns the scary story into and adventure and boosts your confidence. You even feel better prepared for the challenges waiting for you back home.
6. Get real-life education
You may learn a lot about the world from books. Textbooks are filled with facts and illustrations. Fiction takes us to new lands and introduces us to new people and ideas. But textbook facts cannot be smelled, heard, felt, or tasted.
Whereas travelling offers you the opportunity to meet the people, hear the music, taste the food, touch the yellow stones of the pyramids.
Explore new cultures
Discovering new music genres, spices and recipes through travelling enriches your life and increases life satisfaction. You can even recreate your exotic experiences for your friends once you return home and share with them what you have learned about the world. Invite them over and play the CD, prepare an extraordinary dish with the spices you bought, fill your home with the aroma of incense.
Learn about the world
I remember being impressed as I child by kids who could name the capitals of numerous countries. I couldn’t even remember three. The birthplace of this author? Hmmm. But I will never forget Paris with the flooded banks of the Seine, the gargoyles of Notre-Dame de Paris, the Jester statue at Stratford-upon-Avon. Or the bleak sculpture of the two metal swords and their shadows at the Canterbury Cathedral (so this is where the pilgrims from Canterbury Tales were going!).
» The first condition of understanding a foreign country is to smell it. «
7. Make memories
Real-life education is more memorable because it is personal. And our memories are part of who we are, part of our identity.
Remember eating with chopsticks for the first time? West End and the gorgeous musicals! The tiny second-hand bookshop on Kanda street!
These cherished memories are precious stories you can tell your children or grandchildren one day. And they will be as vivid to them as they are for you!
8. Understand yourself
As travelling takes you out of your comfort zone, it often forces you to deal with change and uncertainty.
Adapt to change
During my first summer job abroad my boss had this favourite phrase: Flexibility is key!
Change is a normal part of our lives. Therefore, the ability to change and adapt is vitally important for us. A lot of people struggle and feel frustrated with their lives or their jobs because they can’t deal with change. How does this help you know yourself? Well, travelling can force you to deal with change on an everyday basis, much more often than your daily life. And once you manage to bring order to the chaos, you realise how strong and adaptable you really are!
Find your strengths
Meanwhile, the new challenges you face help you understand your strengths and your weaknesses. An additional advantage of travelling is that it helps test your limits. Once you get on the wrong train, you learn to read all the signs and then soon you find out that you can lead your friends through the complex maze of the metropolis underground. And you thought you had a terrible sense of direction and were more of a follower than a leader!
Learn about your likes
You prefer contemplating the sea to trekking. If you stop and ask yourself why, you may find out something about yourself. Perhaps you need some inner peace and quiet and not new challenges and team work to deal with obstacles.
9. Have fun
Scientists have established that our sense of happiness increases even before we start our journey. Why? We look forward to it! The simple expectation of the trip that will help us break free from routine creates a positive feeling.
The trip itself is an opportunity to sleep late, have one of these lazy breakfasts that someone else has prepared. Try new cuisine. Why not add some camel milk to your coffee, after all this is Dubai! Taste Classic French mussels or real sushi (turns out it’s quite different to the one in the shop around the corner from your place). Are you adventurous enough to try the deep fried insects?
Flamenco and salsa in the streets seem much more alive and fun than what you do in dance classes. Street musicians and artist in big cities are amazing, so much more brilliant than the ones you see on Talent shows.
Positive experiences reduce stress. So if you are struggling with burnout, fighting anxiety or simply feeling too tired, you may try a mindfulness course or yoga. But if you have the opportunity to take some time off and travel, go for it! It will do you a world of good!
10. Improve your health
This brings us back to healthy habits.
The first one is sleep. Do you hate the sound of your alarm in the mornings? Do you set it too early so that you can hit the snooze button at least twice before actually getting up? Does this make you feel lazy and guilty about not wanting to get out of bed? Getting enough sleep is vital for both our physical and our mental health. I love weekends simply because my day does not start with the annoying sound of the alarm!
Travelling is a great opportunity to sleep late and even have a nap in the afternoon. Get your beauty sleep!
The second travel-related healthy habit is movement. If you plan a walking trip, you can balance a job that involves sitting behind a desk all day. Exercise is good for your heart, for your muscles and bones, it can also increase your energy levels.
Are you tired of the hurried breakfasts, fast-food lunches and frozen-food dinners? Our hectic daily life seems incompatible with a healthy diet. Yet while you travel you can eat as often as you feel hungry, eat proper food, delicious food!
Travelling takes us outdoors. The opportunity to get enough sun (some vitamin D) and some fresh air improves both our tan and our mood.
And finally, laughter! Share the journey with your friends and family and laugh together.
Remember: A good laugh heals a lot of hurts.
Travelling is great for your health. So choose your dream destination, book your ticket and pack your bags. Adventure is waiting for you out there and there are so many benefits to travelling!

8 Things To Do While Travelling
Travelling is a Privilege
Contents (jump to)
If you can travel, on any type of trip, you are blessed. Therefore, things to do while travelling is an extremely important aspect. Wherever you go, ensure you make the most of your time spent in that place.
Tick-box travel (that is, travelling somewhere just to say you have been) looks great on Instagram. Meaningful travel, however, will become engraved in your memories, and therefore will last forever.
In order to create a special experience on your trip, there are certain things you can do in every place. Some of these you probably already do, such as numbers 1 and 6 but try and do more. If you take my advice and try something new, I’d love to hear about it in the comments or through social media!
So here is the list of 8 things to do when travelling no matter what your style of travel is. It could be a weekend break, luxury stay, annual holiday, backpacking, road-trip or even a staycation.
If you do even one thing from the following list, you will learn through your travels.
The List
This one is pretty much a given of things to do while travelling. We all love to take snaps and share on socials along with a caption like ‘how is your Monday’ or ‘just another day in paradise.’ Continue to do so, and take as many pictures as you can to use as mementos for your trip. To fully enjoy those times, though, put down the camera and be in the moment.

2. Learn a few phrases in the local language.
It seriously goes a long way. I’m not saying you need to study the official language of every region you visit, but showing just a slight attempt will make a difference. Learning how to say hello, please, and thank you shows courtesy, learning numbers and prices could help you financially, and learning how to say a specific phrase could change your whole experience, i.e. if you are vegetarian then learning how to say ‘I don’t eat meat’ is extremely useful.
Picnic with locals in Bordeaux, France
3. Try as much local food as possible.
There are so many wonderful cuisines around the globe, that to not try any local food would be doing a disservice to your travels. Local food is always cheaper and so delicious you’ll be missing it when you’re home. The locations to get local food are endless, from street stalls for fresh meals in Thailand, to restaurants for a tasty tea in The Netherlands, even a French supermarket for local produce for that picnic in a local park! For more reasons why this is one of the best things to do when travelling, see point 8.
More Things To Do While Travelling
4. Explore the place, where possible, by foot or public transport.
Understandably, not everywhere is ideal for walking. Sometimes, hotspots are spread out far apart, the weather doesn’t help everyone (rain or sun), as well as personal reasons. If possible, however, do try and walk between activities because you end up finding hidden spots or new things to do along the way. Rome is a perfect example where everything is walkable and there’s always a great restaurant to find on the way.
Another option is to join walking tours (which are free except for a tip for the guide) where you meet new people and learn from informative guides. Warning: walking always leads to being side-tracked. On the other hand, public transport opens more possibilities as well as kind to your budget. Transport such as local trams or hop-on/off buses allow you to view the people, architecture and streets at ease.

Locals Make A Place
5. Interact with locals.
When you visit somewhere new, more than likely it will be filled with citizens. These are the people who give culture, experience and beauty to a place. The locals are as much part of an area as the scenery is. Speak to the locals to learn more about their lives, culture and homeland. Instead of the supermarket, check to see if a local has a stall selling gorgeous fruit and buy from them while interacting.
Note: you do not have to buy from everyone who approaches you and be mindful of where your money is going. If you pass a local wherever you are, acknowledge them, because we all smile in the same language ;).
6. Do something that is renowned for that particular place/region.
This one can be done through famous facts such as eating chocolate in Belgium, or riding a gondola in Venice. However, you can also do some research before your trip and find out what is a well-known thing to do in the place you are visiting. For instance, before my trip to Bordeaux in France, I researched where the best Sunday market was located and visited like French locals do. This can be done so easily through travel blogs these days, all you have to do is search for what [insert place name here] is famous for and you’ll be overwhelmed with ideas.
Guinness in Dublin, Ireland
7. Learn part of the place’s history.
As harrowing and uncomfortable as sometimes History is, it’s important to know what has happened around the world and not to forget. Before you travel somewhere, do some reading about the region’s history, or watch something related. Research if there is anything you can do in the place that will give you further insight to that history.
In Vietnam, there are various museums that remember the war such as the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh city. It was here that I noticed a quote from Goro Nakamura who said the events of the war ‘must be remembered not only by Vietnamese people, but also by all humankind. In hope that such tragedy would never happen again.’ This is true for all types of activities around the world that portray the history. It’s one of the most important things to do while travelling and helps you understand a place a little better.
8. Copy the locals.
No matter where you are in the world, the best thing you can do is follow the lead of the locals. They are the ones who know this destination inside-out. If there is a local family queuing for an activity, it is probably a fun and worthwhile activity to do. When you see groups of locals drinking the same type of coffee, go find that coffee because it’s obviously a speciality. At breakfast time, go and find the street stall serving pho, with locals huddled around in Vietnam because that’s where you’ll get the best breakfast and it might run out before 9am.
Trying watercress like the locals in Takaka, New Zealand
That’s It!
Are these things that you already do on your travels? Is there anything else you do in every place? What makes travel meaningful for you?
