The knight is one of your beginner cards. He is pretty much the jack of all trades. He does decent damage, has decent health, can take a beating and can take towers. He just can’t do anything against air units.

Works Well Against…

Archers(3 Elixirs) – The knight is able to whittle down the archers before he gets taken out. However, if your knight is far away from the archers, your opponent can drop skeletons to buy enough time for the archers to kill your knight.

Goblins(2 Elixiris) – Knight wins but the goblins are cheaper.

Spear Goblins(2 Elixirs) – If the knight is in melee range, he will kill them fast. However, a combo of goblins + spear goblins will buy enough time to kill the knight.

Skeletons(1 Elixir) – Knight would make short work of them, but it is a different story if they have ranged backup.

Does Poorly Against…

Minion Horde(3 Elixirs) – Your knight becomes useless.

Dragon(4 Elixirs) – Same as minions.

Valkyrie(4 Elixirs) – The Valkyrie will win in a melee battle but at the cost of an extra elixir.

Mini P.E.K.K.A(4 Elixirs) – This guy hurts and will kill the knight first.

Useful Combos

Knight + Ranged attacker – This is your most basic ranged + melee combo. This can whittle down towers fairly quickly.

Knight + Giant – Front line tank to soak up pressure and damage.

Knight + Skeleton Army – Great against the Prince and you can counter attack for the same elixir cost.

Knight + Goblin Hut – Works great if you want to start a swarm of small troops.

Rarity

Rarity is a rough measure of the quality and scarcity of a card. Cards of higher rarity are typically harder to find and more expensive to craft.

There are 5 rarities: Free, Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary. Most rarities has its own color, based on World of Warcraft’s gear system, and may be recognized by the color of the gem at the bottom center of the card’s portrait (see display, right). When opening packs, face down cards above common quality will be displayed with an appropriately-colored glow when hovered over.

Significance [ ]

While rarity always determines the scarcity of a card, the exact significance of a card’s rarity varies depending on the card set, and the current game mode.

Constructed [ ]

In constructed play, rarity determines the difficulty of adding a card to your collection.

The main impact of this is that higher rarity cards are harder to obtain, and as a result are seen less often at lower levels, due to players having not yet collected them. However, at higher levels players have usually collected all desired cards, effectively removing the significance of rarity entirely. The only direct significance of rarity for constructed play is the limitation of one copy of each legendary per deck, and the rare presence of a rarity-specific effect.

Arena [ ]

In Arena, rarity affects the likelihood of a card appearing for selection, but Bucket also does, which also determines what cards will be offered alongside it. Higher rarity selections are offered less often, although with a high degree of variation between runs.

This makes rarity at higher levels more important in Arena than in any other type of play. While rarity always determines the possibility of including a card in the player’s deck, the randomness of rarity in Arena makes it equally significant at all levels, while in constructed it is mostly significant for newer players, who have not yet collected higher rarity cards.

Rarity also affects game balance far more in Arena than in constructed. In higher level constructed play, the only impact of rarity is that legendary cards are limited to one copy per deck. At all levels of Arena, the decision of what rarity to give a card determines which options it will be matched against, and how frequently it will appear, increasing the likelihood of players having several copies of the card in a deck. For example, a legendary card may be considered poor compared to other legendaries, and thus rarely be picked in Arena; whereas if it has been made an epic card it might be found more favourable in comparison to the other options at that rarity, and thus be picked more often. Both of these factors mean rarity will directly determine how often a card shows up in Arena matches, making the rarity of certain cards a common subject of discussion for Arena players.

Uncollectible cards [ ]

In contrast to collectible cards, the rarity of uncollectible cards has practically no significance or impact on the game. [Note 1] In some cases, their rarity matches that of the generating card, while in others it varies or appears to be absent. Coloured gems on Boss cards and Tavern Brawl cards are uncommon, and have no significance (or consistent reasons for their appearance).

Design [ ]

Card rarity is chosen based on several criteria. The ease of obtaining a card is obviously a factor, as well as card complexity. The designers have stated that the new player experience, Arena balance, «excitement, also just gut instinct» come into the decision as well. [1]

Strategy [ ]

Rarity in Hearthstone cards serves as a rough indication of quality, but an inconsistent indication of value in play. Likewise, card sets, rarity is a consistent indicator of card scarcity and crafting cost. However, for cards in other sets, rarity may bear no relation to the difficulty of acquiring cards.

However, despite the undeniable power of many legendaries, rarity is not the prime determinant of victory in matches. Overall deck composition (as well as skill, luck and match-ups) is a far larger factor, and despite the power of many legendaries, most top-level players choose to include only a handful legendaries in their decks. Streamers such as Trump have demonstrated the unimportance of rarity by reaching Legend rank using no legendaries, while some such as TotalBiscuit have even constructed decks composed entirely of legendary cards, in order to demonstrate how ineffective and cumbersome such decks would be.

Deck composition is ultimately determined by several factors, including both individual card quality and overall deck strategy. The ability of a card to serve a deck’s specific needs and approach to obtaining victory will always play a greater role in determining its viability than its rarity. However, a few well-chosen high rarity cards can turn a deck from bad to reasonable, or from good to great, and can generally be relied upon to provide some exciting and game-changing options.

Which of the five tiers of rarity a card falls under can be discerned by one of four possible gem hues below the name (white for common, blue for rare, purple for epic, orange for legendary) or being gemless (free). Further info is in the following sections:

Free is the lowest level of card rarity, below Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary.

All Free cards can be obtained after completing the New player’s rank system.

The fact that Legacy is a Wild card set makes Free the only rarity to have no cards in Standard format.

It is often thought that all cards without a rarity gem are Free cards. However, the absence of a gem actually indicates that a card belongs to the Basic set, so a few such cards are actually Common, albeit only uncollectible ones.

Card Rarities

Card rarities are a big part of any CCG. Here’s a quick insight into how they work in Card Hunter.

Previously all our cards had a rarity, but we didn’t display it. Now you can see a little icon in the lower right of the card image “C”, “U” or “R”. I’ll let you guess what those mean.

There are two concepts associated with each card that are easy to confuse but importantly different. The first is the card’s “quality”. That is a rough estimate of the card’s power and is indicated by the color of its title bar. So, the gold Dwarven Battle Cry is more powerful than the bronze Charge which is, in turn, more powerful than the plain Blind Rage. Of course, these quality assessments are subjective, and a large part of the fun of deck building is deciding whether or not we got it right. Is Blind Rage actually a good card for your deck? Or maybe Dwarven Battle Cry isn’t that great in your Elf/Elf/Dwarf party…

The second concept is the card’s “rarity”, which we’ve been discussing. Note that rarity is not the same as quality or power. Rare cards are generally more complex than commons, but they aren’t always more powerful. Blind Rage is rare partially because it’s a pretty complex card. It marries a powerful effect (Frenzy 3, which adds 3 to all your melee attacks) with a pretty nasty drawback. Dwarven Battle Cry is powerful but simple. The uncommon Charge is somewhere in between.

All these cards come from Trained Ferocity, a rare dwarf skill. Trained Ferocity is rare because it contains a rare card. The calculations for item rarity can be a little more complicated than that, but card rarity is where they start. Basically, an item is at least as rare as the rarest card in its suite. So, you’ll never find a common item with Blind Rage in it.

Because you find rare items more rarely (duh), that means that rare cards are also rare. Makes sense, right?

Here’s the kicker – because items are combinations of multiple cards, we can actually end up with item rarities greater than those of the cards themselves. For example, the Lost Amulet:

Yeah, that gets you two rare cards in one bundle – so it’s an Epic item itself. Path of Knives – ouch!

In order to get this card you need to make sure that you have done the main quest called «the ultimate weapon» which will unlock a duty called the Praetorium, upon finishing it you will be able to unlock a quest called «Legacy of Allag» from Outlandish Man in Mor Dhona (x21.8, y8.1) which will unlock the beginning of the crystal tower questline. Continue doing those you will unlock 3 24man raids (Labyrinth of the ancients, Syrcus tower, and World of Darkness). This card is a drop from the lootbox of the last boss in World Of Darkness.

It is a highly rare drop directly into inventory from World of Darkness. I probably ran the raid 60-70 times before I got my drop.

As a low level new player who wasn’t high enough for The World of Darkness and wanted to also save up MGP for other things besides Mythril Triad packs, this took over 40 hours farming Lewena for this card to drop. Absolutely insane grind.

This Card was my absolute achnemesis. Many hours farming Lewena, countless WoD runs, and finally weeks of farming MGP until the Mythril Packs dropped it. 153 Mythril Cards, 7 Bartz, 2 Terra, 1 Onion Knight.
