What school clubs or societies are interesting for schoolchildren
All About Societies and Clubs
When you visit prospective schools, don’t forget to ask about the extra-curricular activities available for your child. The opportunity to join a club or society will help children to develop both mentally and emotionally.
It can help develop social skills as well as any skills involved in the club or society activities themselves. It’s also a great way, in many instances, to wind down and relax at the end of the day.
A Variety of Choices
There could be any number of options to choose from, such as sports clubs, where children are able to develop skills and also compete against other schools.
There will also be the option of attending academic clubs. Your child may want to explore a subject on the curriculum in greater depth by joining the Maths Society or Latin Club, for example.
Outdoor Clubs may include learning to canoe, train for cross country or even studying for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Perhaps if your child is interested in partaking in a religion or particular belief there may be spiritual societies available, such as Christian Union.
Other clubs or societies could include working for the school magazine or charity work. Some schools may even offer exciting and interesting variations, such as debating or even bee keeping.
The Benefits
There will be people of all ages in these clubs and societies, helping with social skills and communication skills that will be invaluable later on in life. There may be an opportunity for your child to gain a position of responsibility such as sports captain, enabling them to learn about skills related to leadership and therefore gain a greater awareness of themselves and others around them.
There are obviously many benefits to taking part in an active sport during and after school. Not only will joining extra clubs and societies enrich their social lives, it also makes learning as a whole more exciting and full. Helping students to develop and continue these interests at university and even in the work place will help them to socialise easily and have plenty to talk about.
Final Tips
Be aware of the cost of joining special interest clubs more than others, for example a snowboard/ski club may require equipment and travel money if trips are available. Finally, don’t forget the importance of keeping time for your children to rest and relax, as this is important too!

The 39 Best Clubs to Start in High School
Thinking about starting a club? It’s a great way to meet people with similar interests, do an activity you enjoy, learn more about an activity you’re interested in, and gain leadership experience for your college application! But what are good clubs to start in high school? In this article, I’ll give you a list of dozens of clubs you can start!
Why Would You Want to Start a Club?
There are many good reasons to want to start a club. I mentioned some reasons above such as meeting new people, doing an activity you enjoy, and gaining leadership experience.
However, another reason you may want to start a club is if you have no opportunity at your school to pursue an interest you have. For example, you may have a passion for film, but your school may not offer any film classes or have any film clubs. If that’s the case, start a film club to pursue that passion!
Even if your school has a class or club in your general area of interest, you may want to focus your attention on a more specific topic. For example, perhaps your school offers an art course, but you’re passionate about sculpture specifically. In that case, consider starting a sculpture club.
List of Clubs to Start at Your High School
Now that you know why you should start a club, what are some potential club ideas? I’ve sorted the clubs into ten main categories: eight subject area clubs, hobby clubs, and charity clubs.
NOTE: The category a particular club has been placed into is not important. I simply created these categories to organize this list. No one category is better than another. It’s best to create a club you’re passionate about no matter the category.
Below, I’ll give you club name ideas along with a few ideas for activities the club could do. When you start your club, you don’t have to do all of these activities. You may want to do the simpler, smaller activities first before trying to plan one of the bigger activities (such as an international trip).

21 High School Clubs to Consider
Now would be a great time to sit down with your child to discuss how to think about after-school opportunities.
How After-School Clubs Can Help
High school clubs can benefit students in many ways:
In the context of college admissions, «Clubs» are considered Extracurricular Activities because they happen «outside of the classroom». Other Extracurricular Activities include sports, jobs, music, theater, child care responsibilities, etc.
As you may know, there is room for 10 Extracurricular Activities on the Common Application. Especially at the more competitive colleges, this is the section that colleges look at to get more insight into what makes your child «tick».
Considerations before joining a club:
DON’T
DO:
Common After-School Clubs:
Start Your Own Club
Many schools are open to students who want to start their own clubs. Not only does this show great initiative, but it’s easier to establish a leadership position in the club when you’re in charge it. I’ve had PrepWellers start a Shark Tank Club (for entrepreneurs), Cryptocurrency Club, Escape Room Club, Military Club, eBay Flippers Club, etc.
How to Help Your Child Select a Club(s)
Depth not Breadth
And remember, when it’s time to apply to colleges, most will appreciate the depth of engagement, participation, and leadership over the absolute number of clubs.
Who would you select?
Justin joined five different clubs: Spanish, Key Club, Soup Kitchen Club, Book Club, and History Club. His attendance was sketchy over the years. Many of the clubs had overlapping meeting times. Since he never got overly involved in any one club, he never earned a leadership position. Technically, he made it to 50% of the meetings but had little impact on the club members or community. He didn’t learn much about himself along the way, either.
Justin has more activities to enter under «Extracurriculars» on his college application, but most admissions officers would consider these activities «fluff».
Sally, on the other hand, could talk about building the Shark Tank Club for hours and hours. It helped her learn how to network, meet other classmates, interact with community leaders, and talk in front of large groups of people. It also reinforced her strong interest in entrepreneurship.
Who’s the more appealing candidate?
Summary
Teens should strive to be thoughtful and strategic about what clubs to join during high school. Not every club will be a perfect fit, but it’s important to approach the process with a plan in mind. Be intentional.

Ответ: I usually have 6 classes a day. But on Tuesday I have en extra English class to prepare for the exam.
– What sports facilities do you have in your school?
Ответ: We have a number of sport facilities in our school: a swimming pool, a gym. There is also an athletic field near the school. The junior schoolchildren enjoy swimming in the pool most of all, while the senior schoolchildren like working out with weights in the gym.
– What clubs and societies can you attend in your school?
Ответ: Well, we can attend reader’s club and the scientific society in our school. In addition to it, there is a theatre group giving performances in foreign languages. I am an active member of the theatre group.
– What school events, like concerts and performances do you usually have during the school year?
Ответ: We usually have a lot of concerts and performances during the school year. But the most exciting is the New Year performance. Besides, we have concerts to celebrate International Women’s Day and Defender of the Fatherland Day.
– Do you enjoy taking part in these school events? Why?
Ответ: I sometimes enjoy taking part in the preparation process, but I never like dancing or performing on stage. I think that’s because I’m generally a shy person.
– What event would you recommend organizing and why?
Ответ: I think we should organise the day of ecology. I believe this event would help students learn more about ecological problems and the ways of solving them.
This is the end of the survey. Thank you very muh for your help.

– What sports facilities do you have on your school?
Ответ: We have a number of sport facilities in our school: a swimming pool, a gym. There is also an athletic field near the school. The junior schoolchildren enjoy swimming in the pool most of all, while the senior schoolchildren like working out with weights in the gym.
– What sport do you do regularly?
Ответ: As for me, I do swimming twice a week. I think that swimming is the best sport of all. The main thing is that it trains all groups of muscles, and it is not traumatic. In additiion to it, I do tennis on Sunday.
– What winter sports are popular with you and your friends?
Ответ: My friends and I go often skiing in winter. Frankly speaking, we don’t train hard, because we don’t want to be skiing champions. We do it just for pleasure.
– Would you like to do any extreme sports? Why, or why not?
Ответ: I don’t want to do any extreme sports because they are very dangerous. I don’t understand people who are keen on bungee jumping, white-water rafting, and the like. You know, life and health are not the things to trifle with.
– What would you recommend to a teenager who wants to be fit?
Ответ: First of all, he or she should start with simple things like doing morning exercises. Jogging is also a good option. Then, the teenager can go to a gym to work out. In addition to physical training, he or she should eat healthy food.
This is the end of the survey. Thank you very muh for your help.
