What sports facilities does / did your school have?

For example:
— sports hall
— swimming pool
— pitches
— athletic track (400m, 100m)
etc.

My old school had one large sports hall which could be subdivided into three, one small outdoor pitch (really just a field), one 100m track with four or five lanes, and a sandpit for long jump. I’d have loved to have had a swimming pool on site but I guess it’s not really worth it for most schools.

Your turn.

We had a football field, rugby fields, astro turf pitch, and tennis courts (sometimes used for hockey as well, being school). Then there’s the track for running, and a sand thingy for long jump. Then there’s other field space for cricket, rounders, and others.

Indoors we had basketball hoops and equipment for badminton and gymnastics. There are two sports halls, one big one and one smaller one.

The school is also attached to a leisure centre open to the public, but the school could reserve some things for certain times. For example, we had use of the swimming pool when we did swimming in year 7 and 8. When in primary school, we would go and use the same pool.

Wow. Did you guys get more than 2 hours sports / games a week? Otherwise those facilities seem like a bit of a waste. Although I guess schools could make quite a bit of money from them by opening them to the public!

I wonder about the tennis courts. Did you get individual tennis lessons, or how would you teach a class of 30? (I never had tennis at school, which is a shame!)

Also, squash courts. But again, only two people can use one at a time, so are they worth it for a school?

No idea about martial arts, but we had a fully electric fencing setup.

We did 15-20 hours of sport a week.

The point of having all those facilities were to give people options as to what sport to play; it made it more likely that everyone would find a sport they would really enjoy.

We have 5 main fields on which we have 2 rugby pitches, cricket pitches, 400m track, a football pitch as well as a sandpit for long jump, a discus ring, small golf course, astro for hockey, tennis courts, fives courts.

Indoors we have a gym, squash courts, swimming pool, 4 indoor halls (2 downstairs, 2 upstairs) with the upstairs mainly used for fencing. We also have a shooting range.

There’s probably a lot more, and I know that we also do things like horse riding, pentathlon etc. but I don’t really do sports at school so aren’t really sure what else there is lol.

Our school is a fairly big secondary school, and there are 2 hours compulsory PE a week, as normal.

Some of our facilities are shared with a leisure centre attached to the school, the swimming pool being the main one. I think a football club borrows the astro turf pitch outside of school time.

The track is a full 400m, so it can be used for any length.
