The Anti-Villain-slash-Anti-Hero son of an Ascended Demon named Sparda and a human named Eva, and twin brother of Dante. While Dante became a hotheaded but selfless Anti-Hero after demons killed their mother, Vergil grew to be a cool and collected Anti-Villain out for his own gain.

In the prequel game Devil May Cry 3, Vergil came into conflict with his brother Dante when Vergil attempted to open a giant Hell Gate to obtain the power of their father. After multiple battles between the two, Dante emerged the ultimate victor. Vergil meanwhile chose to stay on the other side of the Hell Gate he had opened, only to come face-to-face with the demonic god his father had sealed away there: Mundus.

In Devil May Cry, we learn Vergil lost to Mundus, and was enslaved by the Big Bad to operate as his top enforcer under the name «Nelo Angelo.» After several more clashes with his brother Dante, Vergil is seemingly killed and vanishes in a flash of light.

Returns in a fashion in 4 and 5 as a playable character added in the Special Edition Updated Re-release, and was involved in the backstories of each game’s plots.

Being half-demon, Vergil has Super Strength, Nigh-Invulnerability and a Healing Factor, along with the ability to transform into a demonic Super Mode called Devil Trigger. His weapon of choice is a Japanese sword of his father’s named Yamato, but he also used a nameless giant demonic sword during his time as Nelo Angelo. As a playable character, Vergil’s gameplay revolves around his Dark Slayer style (which is a simplified form of Dante’s Trickster style) and his three swappable weapons; Yamato, Beowulf, and Force Edge. He later returns in 4:SE with the new Concentration mechanic. Standing still, landing attacks, and walking while locked onto foes increases Concentration, which Vergil can use to dramatically increase the effectiveness of his attacks. His Dark Slayer style is also modified to fire out an energy sword before warping to a foe, allowing him to move around the battlefield much more effectively. He returns in 5 with his previous weapon moveset mostly unchanged, but with some new mechanics and skills. His Devil Trigger has now been replaced with Doppelganger, a summonable A.I controlled clone that attacks in unison with him. He also has four Limit Breaks this time around; one for each weapon, and a World of V skill. These changes have made Vergil even more Difficult, but Awesome; his damage output is obscenely high, Doppelganger helps him crowd control and boosts his damage, he has several moves that cover a huge amount of space, and World of V allows him to recover some Vitality, but these just mean having to understand or juggle more mechanics, and he is punished heavily for taking even a single hit or throwing out whiffed attacks.

This guide shows how to beat DMD/HaH Vergil with S rank easily (Dante, Nero, no damage, missions 19-20). I’m not trying to be Mr. Donguri (whom I have a lot of respect for), it’s just a simple way of kicking Vergil’s shiny butt with the most appropriate style that doesn’t suggest kinda crazy timing with Royal Guard which is often advised by YouTube users and some professional players. It’s just another strategy that can be useful for you, and I hope it will be helpful.

This guide includes both video and textual versions, and I’d be happy to hear your ideas on how to improve this strategy or make it even easier. The textual one isn’t hackneyed replica of what you can see in the videos, it has another form.

WITHOUT USING ROYAL GUARD

Well, the basic tips for beating Vergil with NO DAMAGE S RANK (Dante Must Die/Hell and Hell) while playing Dante are the following:

1. Equip Swordmaster style and Devil Sword Dante. After having the latter equipped, you should hold your style action button for 5, maybe, 7 seconds while staying highly mobile to avoid Vergil’s attacks. Holding this button will produce a circle of Summoned Swords (hereinafter referred to as SS; it’s called «Swords Formation» in the moveset). So, your next move is to release SS by stopping holding style action button.

2. The most important point right here is to say that these SS will attack Vergil automatically during relatively significant period of time. Sure, it’s good as it causes some damage, but here goes the next issue.

3. After performing his whatever move, Vergil being attacked by SS will be stunned for a while. It’s a perfect moment to cut him with your weapons (Devil Sword Dante, Cerberus, Balrog).

4. Constantly release your SS after holding style action button and switch to Trickster to stay safe completely, without getting any damage.

5. Repeat these actions several times, and don’t forget about Trickster!

SS («Swords Formation») are indisputably useful in another aspect. They can destroy easily Vergil’s summoned swords. So, when you’re trapped in a circle of summoned swords, you can use SS by holding your style action button to break them all. Therefore, you’re able to release your SS to not give Vergil any opportunity to cast his own swords; you’re able to destroy them as fast as they appear in the same way.

6. The next issue is Vergil entering his DT state. You know well he recovers his health while using it, but here we go again. SS will attack him in the same way, and they deny any possibility of the health being recovered. Thus, you just avoid Vergil with having no any direct contact and wait ’till he prepares for his.

Switch to Gunslinger with double Kalina Ann equipped and immediately perform this action. Then, Vergil’s DT will be busted, and you will get another opportunity to damage him with furious energy beam.

Hold it. Use it wisely.

8. Right after this don’t get too close to Vergil as he tries to do the «Judgement Cut End». Instead, you have to get distant enough from him using Trickster.

9. Well, it’s time to do your best. After performing this attack, Vergil will have kinda cooldown. It’s quite obvious you should use the most destructive weapon in your versatile arsenal. Yep, the hint isn’t vague. It’s Dr. Faust, and you shouldn’t feel bad for using it as it makes beating Vergil a walk in the park.

10. Repeat all what’s written above and wait ’till Vergil gets into the next phase.

11. So, here Doppelganger appears. It may sound fearful, but there’s no any problem with this one, actually. Use your SS («Swords Formation») again, and you’ll be surprised definitely by how easily this Doppelganger can be killed.

12. The list of actions described above has a variety of possible modifications depending on how the whole state of matters goes. Nevertheless, it’s pretty simple and it really works. If it doesn’t, I’d be extremely glad to see your tactics and strategies then!

1. As it’s been mentioned above, use Punch Line and Blue Rose to spam Vergil instantly with a series of powerful attacks. Thus, even on DMD/HaH it’s visible that fully charged Blue Rose reduces Daddy’s health trippingly. In its turn, Punch Line stuns Vergil immediately if his block is failed. Moreover, you can pull him towards Nero to cause some extra damage, but the best option would be to shoot him with fully charged Blue Rose.

2. Summoned swords are easily destroyed with consecutive shots of Blue Rose while it’s pretty complicated to break them with Red Queen. Another option is to activate your DT while being in the air (or on the ground), but it depletes your DT gauge.

3. Some of Vergil’s summoned swords are destroyed with Punch Line, too (particular example can be found in the very beginning of the applied video).

4. When Vergil is knocked down, don’t hurry to use your Devil Bringer (or Buster). Activate your DT immediately and use the «SHOWDOWN» move. It’s exceedingly powerful and kicks Vergil a lot, especially in combination with the following Devil Bringer attack. You can also use Ragtime to do extra hits.
That’s how it looks:

There’s an issue with Vergil knocked down for the second time (third, fourth, etc.). When you get close to Vergil and try to Devil Bringer him, it requires more time as his Doppelganger appears. In this case, «SHOWDOWN» is up to you, it’s all about timing. Nevertheless, you can just use your DT form to get past additional animation (see below).

5. Doppelganger is a whipping boy for your Blue Rose. Even if it isn’t charged to maximum.

6. When Vergil activates his DT, there’s no any specific strategy. Spam him with Blue Rose and Punch Line, the irony is that Vergil gets stunned as easily as it’s done with Vergil staying in his human form.

7. As it happens to Vergil in the fight with Dante, the first starts using his flying attack. You could use a plenty of tactics to stop him, but it’ll be easier to charge your Blue Rose preliminarily and shoot him when it’s up to maximum. Then, his flight will be delayed.

8. If you fail to stop him, don’t take risks, just jump and shoot him with Blue Rose and Punch Line. I find it the safest possible method.

9. Don’t forget about repeating mostly similar pattern of these actions, and you’ll get it finally, I hope.

We all know this answer already but let me hear your guys answer.

Actually every time when Dante beats Vergil,you can see that Vergil’s power wasn’t in the best condition.But in DMC 5 Vergil reached his top but still was kicked a** by his son and didn’t have a result in the fight against his brother.Vergil may has the greatest technique,but Dante’s power and strength has beaten him,and we can expect Dante to get more skillful,after all they don’t age.
According to these facts,I think Dante may be more powerful than his brother and may get stronger.

Anyone who’s saying Nero is stronger than Vergil or Dante needs their head examined. is it truly not obvious enough he was just giving his kid a ‘good run for his money’ and that’s it? Effectively letting his kid test out his newly awakened DT power in a scenario where Nero could go all out w/o any fear of actually killing his opponent coz Vergil is strong enough to take everything Nero can bring, and still hold back to a degree.

I mean come the ♥♥♥♥ on. DT vs Sin DT is like SSJ1 vs SSJ2, there is no comparison AT ALL.

After the fight Vergil just gets up and dusts off like ‘welp, I guess we’re done’ and like he took no damage at all. If that isn’t a clear indicator that he basically LET his kid ‘win’ I don’t know what is. Oh and nevermind that both he and Dante knock Nero’s ass flat with a single backhand.

The look on Nero’s face clearly shows it. he KNOWS he isn’t anywhere even remotely NEAR their league. He didn’t follow them after the bitchslap for a reason. Its not coz they bitchslapped him, its because he knows he’d literally be the legendary deadweight if he followed.
