Hey, Kate. You know that? I’ve just found two pictures suitable for our project “Desserts”. Let me tell you a bit more about them.

These pictures are relevant to our project because they both show people doing shopping. In the first photo there is a woman, who is pretty young, sitting in front of her laptop and, apparently, shopping online. In the second photo there is a family: a man, a woman and a child, they also seem to be shopping but, most likely, in a big shopping centre.

Obviously, both of these pictures feature people in the process of shopping. But there are some differences to illustrate our project better. For instance, in the first picture the woman is at home and focused primarily on what she sees on the screen as opposed to the people in the second picture, who are enjoying the process of choosing a new pair of shoes in the shop.

In my opinion, the two ways of shopping have their advantages and disadvantages. For example, online shopping is really comfortable. However, the purchase can be damaged by delivery service so that people have to spend time on receiving a refund and purchasing another item. At the same time, going shopping to the shopping centre can give people the opportunity to choose what they really need. But it may be exhausting to spend hours there.

As for me, I prefer to do shopping online. It saves my time, energy and nerves. There are simply far fewer distractions that I would face in a big shopping centre, which is the reason I wouldn’t like to go shopping there.

Nowadays there are different forms of friendship including the most popular – social media friends. An online friend is someone who is available most of the time because of the advantage of social media and the constant use of it at any time or anywhere. There are many reasons why making internet friends seems so much easier when we all use platforms like Reddit, Twitter, Snapchat, etc. to communicate.

The most common types of people that find it easier to develop a friendship online are teenagers. Online friends are the perfect ‘friends’ for those who live in isolated areas, people with disabilities, or social anxiety. The online environment provides interaction with minimal risk. That’s why they choose to be protected by their computer screens and not to go face to face.

As for me, I find traditional learning more effective. One of the top reasons is having contact with my teachers and classmates as I prefer face-to-face interactions to technology-mediated conversations.

What extracurricular activities do schools offer?
As far as I know, many schools offer a wide range of after-school activities. Among them there are sports teams, art and science clubs, community service opportunities, and others.

What problems with homework do children have?
Obviously, one of the problems is excessive homework, which is stressful and may lead to health problems. Besides, children often procrastinate when it comes to homework. As a result, they end up doing homework late at night.

What makes an ‘ideal school’?
My ideal school is the one which has an overall visual appeal with storage spaces for personal items. Also, it is a welcoming place where there is no bullying, and all the teachers are friendly.

What would you change in school education?
If I could change anything in school, I’d change the school curriculum and put more emphasis on practical skills. I’d also make some changes in the assessment system.

«Особенностью данного задания является то, что, во-первых, в этом задании необходимо не просто описать фотографии, а их надо связать с темой проекта, сопоставить и сравнить, найти различия, определить, почему они могут служить иллюстрациями к предложенной теме проектной работы, объяснить, что именно и как они иллюстрируют, высказать и обосновать свое мнение о теме проекта, выделить преимущества и недостатки объектов, иллюстрирующих / раскрывающих тему проекта, во-вторых, задание имеет форму голосового обращения к другу, что обусловливает характер обращенности к другу (наличие адресности во введении и других частях монолога), возможности включения риторических вопросов в монологическое высказывание» (стр.35).

Для получения высшего балла по критерию РКЗ участник экзамена должен дать развёрнутые ответы, т.е. раскрыть каждый пункт плана либо в форме сложного предложения (сложносочинённого или сложноподчинённого), либо в нескольких простых предложениях.

Если в ответе даётся только одно различие, балл не снижается, так как ни в плане задания, ни в критериях ничего об этом не сказано. Hello, Alice! I’ve found two photos for our project on shopping alternatives. I will explain my reasoning.

Obviously, both the photos are a good choice because they are related to shopping experiences. In photo 1 there is a girl holding a bank card with a laptop in front of her. She seems to be shopping online. Photo 2 shows a young woman with a shopping cart doing her grocery shopping in a traditional supermarket.

The major difference between the photos lies in the ways of shopping: online shopping compared to in-store shopping. Another difference is that the girl on the right has to push a shopping cart full of grocery purchases, while the girl on the left is enjoying the benefits of shopping from the comfort of her home.

Since neither of the ways of shopping is perfect, they have their pros and cons. The main advantage of online purchases is a real convenience this type of shopping provides: people don’t have to go out to get things. Also, there are better prices and no crowds. Despite this benefit, there is a risk of fraud and identity theft.

When it comes to traditional shoppers, they have the benefit of having a closer look at the things they want to buy. However, in-store shopping is time-consuming, which is an obvious disadvantage.

Personally, I’d like to buy products and services on the Internet since it offers convenience, price comparison and more product options. What’s more, online shopping proves a safer alternative during the pandemic.

These pictures are relevant to our project because there are people playing games together. In the first photo there is a small group of people sitting on the couches in a living room and playing cards. They are having a good time, smiling and talking and drinking orange juice. In the second picture there is another group of people playing tug of war. They are having fun as well. Maybe they have some sort of holiday or a competition.

There are a few differences to illustrate our project better. Obviously, these two pictures show two different ways of spending free time. Although, in both of them people are having fun, those who are on the left are spending their free time passively while those who are on the right prefer playing active games.

In my opinion, the two ways of time spending have their advantages and disadvantages. For instance, playing board games in a company is suitable for everyone. However, it may be boring sitting all the time around the table. As for playing active games, it helps people improve health condition as well as relieve stress. At the same time, this kind of activity requires some preparations and special sports equipment.

As for me, I can’t tell which way of time spending I prefer. Sometimes I like to spend my holidays actively, doing some sport activities. Sometimes on weekdays, I get so tired that I just want to take a rest. Usually my family and I spend our weekends passively, we love watching film together at home.

40.1 There have always been pros and cons of mandatory school uniforms, as some students like wearing it, whereas others prefer an individual look. While doing a project on what teenagers in Zetland think about school uniform, I found a diagram containing some relevant data that I am going to comment on.

According to the diagram, as much as 40% of the adolescents in Zetland enjoy wearing uniform at school. 24% of them have to wear it because it is a school rule. 9% of the respondents consider wearing school clothes old-fashioned.

The data analysis reveals that the number of teenagers (40%) who like wearing school uniform is 4,4 times as large as the number of those who find it outdated. It is not surprising, because wearing school uniform makes students feel like their school is one big team and can even reduce potential for bullying.

Although school uniform is a dress code and is still required by lots of schools, there are always students who struggle with wearing it, and this seems to be a problem. To solve this problem school authorities could organize a student design contest to create such an outfit that would satisfy all teenagers’ demands including colour, material and comfort preferences.

To conclude, I believe that wearing school uniform plays a significant role in students’ lives, as it is a badge of pride, creates an identity for a school and is an important part of being a school student. Wearing school uniform is practical, safe and helps learning concentration. (253 words)

40.2 Online shopping is becoming more and more popular as people discover its advantages. While doing a project on why online shopping is popular in Zetland, I found a diagram containing some relevant data that I am going to comment on.

The diagram shows that nearly one-third of the teenage boys and girls in Zetland, that is 32%, choose online shopping because the variety of products is enormous. Convenience of home shopping comes second in popularity with 28% of those polled. It can also be seen that only 6% of the Zetland youngsters prefer cybershopping because they don’t have to queue.

The data analysis reveals that online access to clear information about products, chosen by 12% of the respondents, is twice as popular with the young online customers as the lack of queues. At the same time lower prices are by 10% less preferable than the large assortment of the products available online.

Although online shopping tends to attract more and more customers, there is always a risk of fraud and this seems to be a great problem as one can lose the money paid without getting the desired product. The best solutions to this problem could be shopping at secure sites only and checking the reviews before buying anything even if the offer seems to be a real bargain.

In conclusion, I believe that online shopping will always play a big role in the lives of people who really value their time, because it has lots of benefits including free store-to-door delivery or discounts. (254 words)
