Nowadays, the issue of spending billions dollars on space exploration is aroused intense debates. Some people believe that humanity must spend as more money as possible on space exploration projects every year, whereas others claim that this money should be used to solve problems on Earth.

Personally, I think that governments have to spend more money on solving problems on Earth. Firstly, Earth is full of mysteries and secrets, which people have not solved yet.

They should find these clues before people begin exploring space. Secondly, governments should invest money in solving more pressing problems on Earth such as improving healthcare, protecting the environment or increasing people’s living standards.

Nevertheless, we can find a contrary opinion. Some people are convinced that exploring space is the way to find the second house for humanity in case there will be a disaster on Earth. In their view, space exploration projects require not only government’s investment, but also private money.

There might be some truth in what they say. However, I cannot agree with this. I believe that it is possible to spend money not only on space exploration, but also on solving problems on Earth. To sum up, I am firmly convinced that solving problems on Earth needs more money than exploring space now irrespective of the opposing opinion. Ignoring important human problems such as poverty, poor healthcare, deadly diseases in favor of space exploration can be detrimental to humanity.

URGENT Read the text and complete the sentences using the third conditional. Some scientists, such as Stephen Hawking, believe it‟s possible that there are billions and billions of universes. Each universe has a different possible consequence for every action. In the universe we live in, for example, George Bush became President of the USA in January 2001, and Greece won the European Cup in July 2004. But in other universes different things happened. Imagine if that‟s true! In some universes, your parents didn‟t meet, so you weren‟t born. In another universe, a meteor didn‟t strike the Earth, so the dinosaurs didn‟t become extinct. In a different universe, your best friend won the lottery last summer and moved to a bigger house. In another parallel universe, you started learning English a year earlier, so you did this book last year! Somewhere else, Madonna wasn‟t discovered, and so didn‟t make any records. In another universe, Van Gogh was recognised as a great painter during his lifetime, and so didn‟t die in poverty. And perhaps in several universes, there were enough lifeboats on the Titanic and so everyone on board survived. It makes you think, doesn‟t it? 1)If I‟d started learning English a year earlier, … 2)If a meteor hadn‟t struck the earth, … 3)If my best friend had won the lottery last summer, ….. 4)If my parents …. 5)Everyone on board the Titanic …….. 6)Van Gogh …. 7)Madonna …… 8)If George Bush…. 9)If Greece ……

2. if a meteor hadn’t struck the earth, the dinosaurs wouldn’t have gone extinct.

3. if my best friend had won the lottery last summer, he\/she\/they would have moved to a bigger house.

4. if my parents never met, i wouldn’t have been born.

5. if there were enough lifeboats on the titanic, everyone would have survived.

6. If van Gogh was recognized as a great painter during his lifetime, he wouldn’t have died in poverty.

7. If Madonna wasn’t discovered, she wouldn’t have made any records.

8. If George bush wasn’t voted, he wouldn’t have become the president of the USA in January 2001.

9. If Greece hadn’t tried hard, it wouldn’t have won the European Cup in July 2004. «>,<"id":9145984,"content":"

Hmmm. Am putut rezolva urmatoarele:

1) If I’d started learning English a year earlier, I would’ve made a book.

2) If a meteor hadn’t struck the Earth, the dinosaurs wouldn’t have went extinct.

3) If my best friend had won the lottery last summer, he would’ve moved to a bigger house.

4) If my parents did not meet, I wouldn’t have been born.

5) If everyone on board the Titanic had enough lifeboats, they would’ve all survived.

6) If Van Gogh was recognized as a great painter during his lifetime, he wouldn’t have died in poverty.

7) If Madonna wouldn’t have made any records if she was not discovered.

8) (. Scuze, nu sunt sigur)

9) (. Nici pe acesta nu il pot face)

More Facts About

РRESENT SIMPLE and PRESENT PROGRESSIVE

1. Present progressive is used when we talk about what has
already been arranged:

Sarah is getting married on Saturday.

But when we talk about timetables for public transport, programmes for cinemas, theatres etc., we use present simple:

When does the train arrive in Moscow?

What time does the show begin?

Professor Smith gives his lectures on Fridays.

2. Present progressive is used when we talk about something
that is happening around the time of speaking, but not neces-
sarily exactly at the time of speaking:

Margaret is a keen reader. One book is not enough for her. She is reading two now.

(At the restaurant):

— What would you like to drink, sir? — Nothing, thanks. I am

3. Present progressive is used in emotionally coloured sentences,
expressing negative emotions:

You are always talking at the lessons, Boris! Jack is constantly coming late!

4. Present simple of the verbs to forget, to hear and the passive
construction to be told is used to denote completed actions:

I forget where he lives. Я забыла, где он живет. We hear you are leaving for St. Petersburg. Мы слышали, ты уезжаешь в Санкт-Петербург.

We are told she has a strong American accent. Нам сказали, что у нее сильный американский акцент.

More Facts About English Tenses

1. Present progressive is sometimes used with the verbs which
are not usually used in the progressive form (to be, to hear, to
see, to understand, to love)
to characterize a person’s unusual
behaviour:

Nick is such a quiet child, but today he is being naughty. I am not fond of action films, but I am loving this one.

2. Past progressive can also be used with such verbs to charac
terize a person’s unusual behaviour at the given past moment:

Bob (who is not a very pleasant man) was being so nice to us when we were on the tour to Edinburgh together.

I met Roy the other day. He was happy because Ann, his sick sister, was feeling much better.

3. Past simple is used to denote an action which occupied a
whole period of time which is now over, especially with the
prepositions for or during:

The boy stayed on the playground during the interval.

But: with the phrases all day long, from 2 (3) to 5 (6 etc.), the whole day past progressive is generally used.

It was raining all day yesterday.

More Facts About

Hardly had I arrived when she called.

Scarcely had we started lunch when the doorbell rang.

No sooner had Emily come back than she understood everything.

3. The past perfect tense is often used together with past pro
gressive to express an action which was over before the second
one began:

The storm had stopped and the sun was shining in the blue sky. Bob had written the article and was speaking to his mum.

17. Choose the right tense form to complete the sentences.

The problem of financing of scientific projects on space exploration is arousing debates. Some people believe that goverment has to spend a lot of money on discoveries in outer space while there are many people who claim that problems on Earthare more important so country has to spend this money on their solution.

In my opinion, it s more important to invest in these projects than you can imagine. Firstly, space exploration can help us to get new knowledge about other planets, stars and cosmic bodies. We can find life somewhere in space. And maybe there are people who are clever than us. Our galaxy is full of secrets which people have to reveal. Secody, satellites help us in weather prediction and disaster prediction.

Satellite communications, television, radio, GPS have become very important part of our life. Also, we began to understand better the state of our planet with help of space explorations. Scientists study the Earth’s atmosphere from space and so they can understand how climate affects life on Earth. Scientists know when asteroids will be close to the planet and how we can avoid collisions with the Earth.

On the other hand, space exploration has one important disadvantage. Scientific projects are very expensive. And this money could be used for solving such problems as poorness, hunger, diseases.

Personally, I believe that space exploration is necessary and we have not to understimate that.

To sum up, I am convinced that governments have to spend money on Earth problems but I think that space is able to develop us. Поступаете в 2019 году?
