It is the best-known item at the restaurant and the most famous food in Bikini Bottom. It first appears in «Help Wanted» and is what SpongeBob cooks most of the time at his job.

The Krabby Patty is a basic plot element that contributes to the Krusty Krab’s existence. A running gag throughout the series is Plankton coming up with plans to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula, but always failing.

Ingredients

The Krabby Patty is made out of a frozen patty with fresh lettuce, crisp onions and tomatoes with sea cheese, pickles, mustard, ketchup, and a Krabby Patty secret formula, though said secret formula has never been revealed in the series. SpongeBob mentioned multiple times that ‘love’ is an essential ingredient that does indeed impact the taste of the sandwich; to the point where King Neptune’s patties were disgusting since «perfect patties are made with love, not magic.» [2] The patties are vegan, similar to a veggie burger; Stephen Hillenburg and Vincent Waller have both stated that the patties have no animal product whatsoever in them. The first Krabby Patty was made by Mr. Krabs and Plankton when they were kids, and it was by accident after Krabs and Plankton broke their friendship and became archenemies. Still, Plankton is unaware that he was directly responsible for the accidental creation of the Krabby Patty. [4] In the episode «Just One Bite,» Krabby Patties are revealed to be kept in the patty vault. However, it was not seen after that.

Health hazards

The Krabby Patty is known for being extremely unhealthy and fattening. Squidward refers to it as «a heart attack on a bun» in «Just One Bite.» They can also have a dangerous and unfortunate side effect. When way too many Krabby Patties are eaten at one time, the consumer will become obese in the thigh area and explode. This happens to Squidward in the aforementioned «Just One Bite,» when he breaks into the patty vault and eats too many Krabby Patties at once.

Its health hazards are also quickly shown in the feature film The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, in the introduction as a doctor states while Burger Beard states that it is so unhealthy that a fish will be gone in a week due to eating too many Krabby Patties.

However, if one does not have a Krabby Patty after an extensive period, they will suffer from Krabby Patty withdrawal. If one does not eat a Krabby Patty during the withdrawal, they will mumble about it for the next three and a half minutes like Patrick does in «Pat No Pay.» Krabby Patty withdrawal is due to thinking of the Krabby Patty, which causes severe stomach aches.

Real-life inspirations

Publications such as USA Today have named it among other fictional foods that many have wanted to exist in real life, but according to the New York Daily News, there are four restaurants that serve a similar burger to the seen one in the show. These burgers include the Snow Crab Crispy Rice, Phuket Fantasy, Angry Crab Benedict, and Soft Shell Crab Taco.

The Krabby Patties have also inspired real-life gummy confectionery treats, primarily in New England. In 2008, a doctor with Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine warned parents to be aware of where the candy their child consumes is produced due to contamination then found in Chinese milk; SpongeBob Gummy Krabby Patties were among those candies produced in China. In 2019, a reporter with the student newspaper of Capital University gave the gummy candies a rating of a 2 out of 10 in their review of Halloween candy. [citation needed]

The Krabby Patty has been used by Katy Perry as a second costume on the red carpet at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. In The SpongeBob Musical, the Krabby Patty was portrayed by an actor on stage at the Palace Theatre.

Finale

In the finale of the musical, the entire cast, led by SpongeBob, performs in the benefit concert that was previously cancelled. Among the members include SpongeBob on ukulele, Sandy on acoustic guitar, Squidward on clarinet, Mr. Krabs on banjo, Patrick on trombone, Karen on glockenspiel, and many others.

Synopsis

SpongeBob and Squidward going to work.

On a normal day in Bikini Bottom, Squidward is taking a relaxing bubble bath and is in a good mood, until he realizes he has to go to work. SpongeBob then comes out of his house in his underwear before he realizes his error and gets dressed as Squidward walks off, but SpongeBob catches up and they start walking to work.

SpongeBob goes on about his previous situation, as he feels it and the walk was taking a bit too long, despite Squidward stating they would be to work early. However, SpongeBob wants to be there even earlier and thinks they should take a shortcut. Squidward tries to explain why there is no shortcut and why they should not try to find one, but SpongeBob still thinks he should as he states his belief that there is always a shortcut.

«There’s always a shortcut!»

Squidward then asks SpongeBob on what moron told him that nonsense, as Patrick conveniently walks by them and says that there is always a shortcut, making Squidward understand it was him.

SpongeBob says that he is going to find the shortcut, as Squidward shows that the restaurant is up ahead with Mr. Krabs standing outside. SpongeBob asks Squidward if he wants to join, but the latter declines, so SpongeBob takes a different path, thinking he can find a shorter way to get there, but bumps into Squidward walking in the normal path, who repeats his words, though he sees that SpongeBob still does not get it.

He then tries to take another shortcut and finds himself in an unusual part of the town. SpongeBob tries to think it is a great shortcut and tells himself not to forget his wilderness training. He tries to remember what Sandy said, and then proceeds to find the Krusty Krab.

He tries to do what he learned from wilderness training, starts with local landmarks, and assigns a broken fire hydrant as his landmark. He then spots a sign that appears to be the Krusty Krab sign, so he climbs over a fence and runs to it.

The scene pans to the Krusty Krab with Squidward relaxing in his workstation, and then Mr. Krabs appears telling Squidward to stop lazing around, even though there are no customers.

The scene cuts back to SpongeBob going toward what he thinks is the Krusty Krab, but it turns out to just be a sign that says «The Krabby Krust.» He notices a fish painting signs and asks him if he knows where the Krusty Krab is, but said fish, Sal, says he has never heard of it. SpongeBob tells him about it, gives him coupons, and then Sal goes there on his truck without SpongeBob. SpongeBob cries, remembers to use his landmarks, and then tries to go back where he came from, but cannot remember too well. He finds the broken fire hydrant he found previously, but then he notices many broken fire hydrants.

SpongeBob then finds a payphone and calls Squidward for help. The operator interrupts the call and tells him that if he wants to continue the call, he needs to insert another dime, but he does not have one. He spots an abandoned sofa and then sees three tough-looking fish drinking soda, and SpongeBob tries to reach under the cushions of said sofa to see if there are any dimes, but instead, he finds two nickels.

One of the fish, Scott, asks him what he is doing, and SpongeBob tells him that he is looking for a dime. Scott shouts at SpongeBob and says that he drives a pedicab, so the latter hops into the former’s pedicab and tells him that he needs to go to the Krusty Krab. Scott drops him off to what he thinks is the restaurant, but it turns out to be The Krusty Klam.

SpongeBob begins frantically running, checks his watch, and then starts to make another shortcut, which causes him great pain, but finally finds the Krusty Krab for him. He crawls to it and enters, and then hugs two customers and kisses one of the elderly customers. He finds Patrick there and asks him how he got to the restaurant. Patrick says that Scott gave him a ride, which he always does, and Scott is seen outside waving at SpongeBob. Mr. Krabs appears and says that SpongeBob is scaring his customers away with his foul stench and tells him to go home and take a bath. Squidward protests that that was his thing, but Mr. Krabs says that the former is clean. As a result, Squidward starts to roll around in the dirt and asks where his bubble bath is. Mr. Krabs sprays Squidward with a hose as Sal shortly comes to the Krusty Krab on his truck and runs over a puddle, which splashes onto Squidward. Mr. Krabs orders Squidward back to work and Sal asks about the coupon. Mr. Krabs then says it is actually another fee, and Sal realizes his error, but still wants food. They walk off-screen, with Squidward still left in the puddle, as the episode ends.

According to Sherm Cohen, «Bob Camp did most of the work on this one. Although many artists add/revise/plus the board, it’s a Bob Camp board. It was an honor to have him draw the first new episode!»

Description

Patty is a meat patty with tomato eyes, lettuce hair, cheese clothes, and ketchup dimples and hair. Its nose is made of a pickle and its mouth is a squirt of mustard.

As the episode goes on, Patty becomes more deteriorated. Green stench comes out of it and Patty is looked to be squashed and off-color. When SpongeBob is singing to it, it falls in the water, which makes it fall apart and start to smell bad. It becomes even more rotten by that night at the Krusty Krab.

Role in episode

SpongeBob made a perfect Krabby Patty that he had named Patty. She would have originally been a tough fish’s lunch, but SpongeBob did not want her to get eaten. SpongeBob gives the fish a grilled shoe burger instead and takes Patty to his home.

Patty then has a makeover and hair-cleaning and goes on an adventure with SpongeBob while the latter sings the song «I Can’t Keep My Eyes Off of You» to as they get attacked by hungry scallops and fall into the end of a waterfall.

Unbeknownst to SpongeBob, Patty soon becomes disgusting, rotten, and is so terrible smelling that people run away from it. Then, SpongeBob realizes that he must eat Patty, which he does, and due to the repulsive condition of the burger towards its final days, asks Mr. Krabs for a doggie bag.

Relationship with SpongeBob

While SpongeBob is in love with it, it does not really have any feelings for SpongeBob since it is a burger and is thus insentient. SpongeBob is very much in love with it until he realizes that Patty rotted while he was at the Krusty Krab.

After Mr. Krabs tells him about the true purpose of Krabby Patties, SpongeBob then eats it despite its spoiled condition.

Relationship with everyone else

While SpongeBob falls in love with Patty, everyone else knows that it is just a Krabby Patty and are, therefore, not fond of SpongeBob’s love with it.

The TV producer claims that he wasn’t doing well in Squidward’s show.
