Суть [ править ]

Сперва явился перед падкими до зрелищ тублянами, уронив видосы с меткой 5 Second Movies. И довольны были хомячки, ибо воистину были эти творения чудесны: неведомыми техническими средствами полнометражная хрень превращалась в видео длиной 5+ секунд без существенной потери смысла. И сказали хомячки: MOAR! Уокер ни одним местом не растерялся и предстал перед народами в образе Nostalgia Critic’а, прямо в кепке и со спущенным галстуком. И начал генерировать хорошие, годные лулзы, высмеивая тупизну ностальгических фильмов и явлений.

Всё бы хорошо, но неподалёку паслись копирасты, которым было скучно. И хотели распять они Дага, требуя выпилить копирастический материал КЕМ. И плюнул, и хлопнул дверью. И сказал: да будет у меня свой сайт, с блэкджеком и шлюхами. И стало. А со временем сайт раскрутился, и в него залезли многие другие относительно талантливые люди. Теперь там целый рассадник видеокритиканов, все как один косят под Батю.

Впрочем, копирасты такие заебали Дага, и он решил таким образом косвенно возродить провалившийся Демо Рил, но теперь для стёбного повторения происходящего на экране, когда обзор посвящён кино-новинке, дабы копирасты не могли доебаться до «незаконного» использования кадров «своих» фильмов. Хотя и по закону Критик ничего не нарушает, но ему надоело каждый раз сраться по поводу постоянного удаления обзоров с ютуба. Первый обзор снятый в таком стиле, был посвящён Миру Юрского периода.

Среди творений Уокера наиболее интересными ныне являются следующие вещи.

Nostalgia Critic [ править ]

Самая популярная серия видео от Дага, где он выуживает из выгребной ямы кинематографа особенно удачные ленты и начинает яростно кричать на них матом, попутно объясняя зрителю, почему они вышли такими «хорошими». В основном это, конечно, ностальгические говнофильмы (говномультфильмы, говносериалы и т. п.), пришедшиеся на юность критика и анально покаравшие его психику, хотя есть и исключения. Если по каким-либо причинам анонимус фильм не видел — он не уйдёт обиженным: критик вкратце пересказывает сюжет и показывает ключевые (или особо ебанутые) сцены шедевра. Сотни ненависти вызывает у него плохая актерская игра, нелогичность повествования и бессмысленные сцены. Эти явно некошерные вещи он готов, повизгивая, втаптывать в грязь до бесконечности.

Критики Критика обычно срут красными кирпичами от следующей хуиты: когда критик слишком далеко заходит в образ гневного обсирателя, он часто бешено визжит (каноничным примером является юбилейный обзор на Battlefield Earth), чем неплохо выносит межушный узел. Но у каждого свои недостатки.

С другой стороны, критик познакомил анонимуса с большим количеством феерической поебени, которая способна генерировать лулзы в режиме standalone. Одним из примеров является особо упоротый фильм «The Room», из-за которого до критика добрались копирасты.

15 сентября 2012, по окончании очередного ежегодного фильма, Даг объявил, что шоу Критика больше не будет. Казалось бы, good night, sweet prince, авотхуй — не прошло и трех месяцев, как Даг вновь вернулся уже с новым планом на последующие рецензии. The Review Must Go On!

Ask That Guy With The Glasses [ править ]

В этой серии видео Уокер в ипостасии ̶с̶н̶о̶б̶а̶ эстета; (халат и красный шарф), интеллигента (немалый фолиант в руках и приветствие на разных мунспиках) и небыдла (трубка, которую он никогда не раскуривает), отвечает на предельно идиотские вопросы своих поклонников, задаваемые закадровым голосом. В ответах явно прослеживается тяга к жестокости, садизму, ахтунгу, педофилии, лжи, воровству, социо- и психопатии. Впрочем, от некоторых вопросов сам ответчик неудержимо фалломорфирует.

Девиз цикла: « There is no such thing as a stupid question, until you ask it ».

Bum Reviews с Chester A. Bum [ править ]

Chester A. Bum (Честер Альфред Бомж) — персонаж, созданный Уокером с целью рецензирования современных и новых фильмов (обычно самых «громких» из них). Собственно, даже не рецензирования, а невозбранного получения лулзов — Bum хвалит все фильмы, о которых ведет речь. Коронная фраза: « OH MY GOD! THIS IS THE GREATEST MOVIE I’VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. »; а прикол в том, что при пересказе сюжетов некоторых лент, особенно, если это должным образом преподнести, зритель испытывает тот самый когнитивный диссонанс и понимает, что подобный бред в трезвом уме родить непросто. Примеры: Avatar этого вашего Кэмерона, Caroline, Speed Racer. Также Bum поддерживает имидж, собственно, бомжа: утверждает, что самое хорошее в фильме было то, что в кинотеатре было тепло, просит мелочь и т. д., чем очень схож с Гоблином, который в своих рецензиях делает практически то же самое, только кинотеатру уделяет больше внимания. Получается средненько, но позитивно.

Раньше в конце этих роликов Даг высказывал одним предложением своё настоящее отношение к фильму, уже от своего имени. Теперь же к каждому Bum Review прилагается «серьёзная» рецензия от Дага в роли самого себя, которая часто бывает длиннее собственно ролика с Бомжом.

5 Second Movies [ править ]

Статус культовой фигуры интернета Уокер изначально приобрёл посредством создания серии коротких роликов — 5 Second Movies. Серия состоит из укороченных и юмористических версий популярных фильмов, начиная с «Короля Льва» и заканчивая «Нефтью». Как это ни иронично, ни один из этих роликов не длится 5 секунд; они идут от одной секунды до минуты.

Сейчас насчитывается 100 эпизодов 5 Second Movies, и ещё один в разработке. После 101-го эпизода (который длится больше минуты) Уокер будет делать дальше, только если ему в голову придёт очень смешная идея, потому что он не хочет портить серию неоригинальными выпусками.

Demo Reel [ править ]

В целом — очень на любителя, некоторым нравится, некоторые разочарованы обилием петросянщины и общей унылостью. К обзорам отношения не имеет.

Являлось своего рода переходным моментом Дага в творчестве. Он хотел покончить с образом Ностальгирующего Критика и идти дальше. Но всё оказалось не так просто. Подробнее это показано в эпичнейшей короткометражке Review must go on. В ней же поясняется причина, почему Критик стал делать обзоры и на новые фильмы. Актёры, занятые в Demo Reel (Рейчел Тиетз и Малькольм Рей) перекочевали в Nostalgia Critic.

Sibling Rivalry [ править ]

Даг и его брат Роб сидят на диване и рассказывают о своих впечатлениях после похода в кинотеатр. Собственно, больше сказать нечего. Лулзов по сравнению с Nostalgia Critic почти нет, связного изложения тоже. Практически не отличается от видео, выкладываемых вместе с Bum Reviews, разве что теперь перед камерой не один мужик, а два. Рекомендуется к просмотру тем, кому действительно интересно их мнение по поводу недавно вышедших фильмов.

По уровню актерской игры Критику уступают чуть менее, чем все (на кривляния того же Phelous’а просто невозможно смотреть), но случаются и хорошие, годные выпуски. Также практикуются совместные рецензии. Доставляют чаще (ибо масса), но куда меньше.

15 сентября 2012 года Уокер объявил, что он больше не будет делать обзоры в образе Ностальгирующего критика, но спустя три месяца вновь вернулся в полюбившийся зрителям формат обзоров от Nostalgia Critic. С 2012 года новые обзоры выходят и на новые фильмы/мультфильмы/сериалы. Также стала часто использоваться компьютерная графика и спецэффекты, у большинства эпизодов появился сценарий, разбавляющий обычный обзор фильма юмористическими сценками с участием актёров из команды Критика (темнокожий друг критика Малкольм Рэй, «инфантильная фанатка» Тамара Чамберс, Рэйчел Тиц), также Критиком часто делаются кроссоверы (совместные обзоры с другими участниками Channel Awecome), в ходу и взаимные камео Злобного Джо, Spoony/Dr. Insano, Линкары и прочих критиков из Channel Awesome. В последнее время Критик обозревает фильмы, которые только-только вышли в прокат, и потому в таких обзорах не используются отрывки из фильма, а события сюжета изображаются критиком и его командой актёров (в частности, такой способ подачи был использован в обзорах на фильмы-новинки «Мир юрского периода», «Безумный Макс: Дорога ярости», «Звёздные войны: Пробуждение силы» и на ностальгический фильм «Фокус-покус»).

Несколько раз шоу Критика посещали знаменитости, в том числе такие культовые, как Б-г американской анимации Дон Блут.

Помимо обычных обзоров существуют различные спецвыпуски, например, «топы-11», в которых критик представляет список лучших/худших/смешнейших/глупых/трагических/и т. п. ностальгических фильмов/моментов/трейлеров/персонажей/и т. д. по своему мнению. Число 11 в топах он объясняет меметичной фразой «Почему 11? Потому что я хочу быть на шаг впереди!».

Первые ролики выкладывались на YouTube, но из-за назойливых судебных исков правообладателей, возмущенных наличием отрывков их фильмов и сериалов в видеорецензиях Уокера, ему пришлось переехать на собственный Stand-alone блог. Так был создан сайт That Guy with the Glasses (позже переименован в «Channel Awesome»), который был вскоре переделан из личного сайта в сайт обзоров его «команды» (в которую входят также КиноСноб, Linkara, Злобный Джо и прочие).

Сценарий к каждому выпуску Дуглас составляет вместе со своим братом Робом Уокером. В рождественских выпусках шоу Роб традиционно играет персонажа Санта Христоса (в ряде переводов — «Деда Христоса»), смесь Иисуса Христа и Санта-Клауса.

С момента создания персонажа его внешний вид остается практически неизменным. Критик носит одну и ту же одежду и выглядит одинаково в большинстве обзоров. Характерная бородка, а также одежда Критика стала узнаваемым символом шоу. Ключевые особенности внешнего вида:

В 2008 году Критик «поспорил» со своим альтер-эго «Спросите у того парня в очках», что в выборах президента США победит Джон Маккейн, и из-за проигрыша сбрил свою знаменитую эспаньолку (в действительности же, Даг сбрил свою бороду, чтобы скосплеить Джокера на Хеллоуин). Позже она снова отросла. В 2015 году снова сбрил бородку, в частности это помогло ему изображать ведьму из фильма «Фокус-покус».

Внешность у Критика европеоидная, он является англоговорящим чикагским американцем, при этом в обзоре на Мэри Поппинс упоминается, что Критик родился в Италии, возможно это объясняет его эмоциональный характер.

С 2017 года обрил голову (судя по всему, по причине прогрессирующей алопеции) и появляется в обзорах исключительно лысым.

[править] Nostalgia Critic vs The Angry Video Game Nerd

Из-за схожести манер актёрской игры (в особенности, благодаря привычке крайне бурно и эмоционально реагировать на предмет обзора) и ведения обзоров (только Ностальгирующий критик обозревает в основном ностальгические фильмы и мультсериалы, а Злой задрот видеоигр, соответственно, старые видеоигры) их фанаты стали сравнивать двух знаменитых деятелей интернет-критики.

Это привело к тому, что Уокер в образе Ностальгирующего критика выпустил видео, где он сатирически выражал своё недовольство Злым игровым задротом, так как тот не мог держать своих фанатов «под контролем». Критика якобы бесили комментарии фанатов Нёрда, которые, по мнению Критика, являлись «безосновательными и несправедливыми сравнениями их двоих». Так началась серия яростных и угарных видеовбросов между Критиком и Злым игровым задротом, а закончилось всё битвой между Критиком и Задротом, пародирующей всевозможные дуэли из фильмов, мультсериалов и игр.

На самом деле Даг Уокер и Джеймс Рольф (создатель персонажа The Angry Video Game Nerd) являются в жизни друзьями, в то время как их персонажи, согласно мифологии шоу, долгое время враждовали. Впрочем, вражда между персонажами со временем тоже сошла на нет, Джеймс появлялся в эпизодических ролях в фильмах Критика («Голос»/рассказчик в фильме «Suburban Knights»), в дополнительных материалах к фильму «AVGN: The Movie» есть обзор на фильм, сделанный Критиком, а позднее были выпущены совместные обзоры на фильмы по видеоиграм и на фильмы, связанные с видеоиграми в рамках рубрик «Nerd&Critic» и « Thirty-Something Nerdy Critics ».

Бэт-кредитка — слабое место Критика. Упомянув сей предмет в присутствии Критика, можно получить целую порцию лютой бешеной ненависти. Мем появился в обзоре Критика на фильм «Бэтмен и Робин», который Критик считает одним из худших в истории. Одурманенные злодейкой Ядовитый Плющ, глав. герои фильма Бэтмен и Робин торгуются за её сердце на аукционе, где Бэтмен и показывает злополучную бэт-кредитку. [1] Дешевые и неуместные в сей франшизе шутки, вроде этой, Критику не импонируют, и, соответственно, в обзоре он весьма долго бился в истерике.

Inspiration for «That Guy With The Glasses»

On the That Guy With The Glasses website forums, Rob » The Other Guy» Walker wrote where the inspiration for the whole idea came from:

«It was sort of organic. Not really spur of the moment, nor totally planned either. Before he did any of this, Doug went through like a mid-midlife crisis. He got big into all the things he watched as child, including ordering a DVD of old 80s commercials. Of the shows and movies he tracked down, some still held up. Some did not. Some things I didn’t recognize at all, but there was a 2 year age difference, so occasionally we saw something the other missed. Point being, he made it his quest to track down old things he remembered and I constantly made fun of him for it. Finally, I asked when this whole freaky phase was gonna pass, and he said, ‘Now. I think I’m done. I’m all out.’ So that nostalgia thing was DEFINITELY there. But that was one or two years before any of this. Fast forward since then.

The first thing was 5 Second Movies, which was a fluke, in that we had no idea it would take off on Youtube. Doug did it as a joke. Next, Doug found Cartoon All Stars to the Rescue. He had totally forgotten about it and found it hilarious. He wanted to try his hands at reviewing something. For a while, I think he wanted to exorcise his inner Lewis Black. We used to film stuff all the time in high school and college, and I think he was just rediscovering how fun it could be. Eventually, it spread to The Transformer’s Review, and then the Harry Potter event just happened to occur. Over time, he found his style for reviewing nostalgic crap. I think the idea came from various Generation X sites that posted humorous written reviews of 80s stuff. We looked at each other, kinda pissed, and said, ‘This situation sucks. WE can do this! WE loved and hated this stuff. If only we had the means.’

Eventually Mike Michaud and Bhargov and Ellis said they were looking for a product to support as the first step in their glorious plans to create Channel Awesome. Mike offered to build the site. We would use the moniker Doug had on Youtube (TGWTG). At that point, most of Doug’s work on Youtube was being done to get a fanbase going. The idea was, when we have enough fans, we’d launch the site. At that time, though, Mike’s scheme was only one of like four things Doug had on his plate. So it started off slow. And Mike wanted to make sure the site was perfect before launch.»

History

-His first appearance on the web was on the website, YouTube. His stay on YouTube garnered many fans, but also complaints from major studios like 20th Century Fox and Lions Gate over copyright infringement. Despite Walker explaining quite clearly in his videos that his videos are satirical, thus protected by the United States First Amendment, the videos and channels were taken off anyway. He then attempted at giving each video a different channel so that if one video was deleted, his others would still be left intact. To escape YouTube deleting his videos, Walker and Internet webmaster Mike Michaud created a website called That Guy With The Glasses. In June of 2008, every single one of his videos was deleted from YouTube, much to the pleasure of Walker, who later announced he was planning on deleting the channels himself so that more people would see his videos on his official website.

Influences

Doug stated to have multiple comedic influences such as Robin Williams, Dave Chapelle, Animaniacs, Bill Murray, Rowan Atkinson, Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert, «Zucker, Abrams, & Zucker», South Park, Mel Brooks, Tom & Jerry, Jack Kinney Disney cartoons, Lewis Black, Monty Python, The Simpsons, and Mystery Science Theater 3000. His biggest influence is The Looney Tunes (particularly Daffy Duck).

5 Second Movies

The idea for 5 Second Movies began when Doug and his brother Rob, aka The Other Guy, would horse around and make funny comments about movies. For example, in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn, they would shout «KIRK!» and «KAHN!» at each other. From there, they decided on creating the movie in five seconds.

After dealing with problems on YouTube, Doug decided to end 5 Second Movies for the time being and let others such as Suede and Film Brain create their own 5 Second Movies, 5 Second Games (in the case of Benzaie) and 5 Panel Comics (in the case of Linkara).

The Nostalgia Critic

The Nostalgia Critic is another one of Doug’s favorite shows and is based on his and his brother’s childhood remembering shows of the 1980s and 1990s. The whole character is based on realizing that the shows and movies he watched as a kid aren’t really as good now. When Doug talked about the Nostalgia Critic in his interview on Geek-lover.com, he said:

«I love the Nostalgia Critic. He’s everything I used to think of movies before I calmed down and chilled out. I also like the idea of a character who felt betrayed by his childhood and wants to ruin it for everyone else. Characters that self-centered and angry just crack me up.»

Doug likes playing the Nostalgia Critic as it brings him back to shows and movies he liked when he was younger. The show also proves how times have changed and just how funny the shows were when he was younger.

The Bjork Show

Doug writes and plays guest stars in the surreal talk show parody, The Bjork Show. The Other Guy’s friend little nemo hosts, giving a childish and omnipotent portrayal of the Icelandic singer Bjork.

Bum Reviews

Chester A. Bum from Bum Reviews is another popular character. This character sprung out of Doug’s imagination from when he was doing the voiceover in the Cloverfield review for the Nostalgia Critic. The character is a homeless man and he reviews recent releases and popular movies such as X-Files 2 and Sex in the City.

Lori Prince Live

The title character of Lori Prince Live is a news anchor in Gotham City and occasionally he has famous Batman characters such as Batman and the Joker appear. This sketch often requires the most time to make as only two have been made thus far.

Ask That Guy

Ask That Guy With the Glasses is a segment where Doug would take e-mails from viewers that have stupid questions. The character, often wearing a robe and reading a big book, would answer them in usually sarcastic and off the wall manners.

Theme Lyrics

Each episode of Theme Lyrics consists of Doug playing the opening to a television show and singing original lyrics to the music.

Video Game Confessions

In Video Game Confessions, Doug plays Dominic, the bartender with a Cockney accent at the Pixel Palace, and recalls encounters he had with classic video game characters.

Xomba Reviews

Doug had decided to join the website Xomba to earn some extra revenue for his work, as well as attract outside attention for his work, and for a few weeks, the Bum Reviews premiered there exclusively a few days before they appeared on the main site. However, fans did not like this idea and so the Bum Reviews no longer appeared on Xomba. In their place, Doug writes serious film reviews, covering some of the latest releases. His reviews usually conclude by saying who would like the movie and who won’t before summing up his own thoughts. Reviews are usually posted on Mondays.

To Boldly Flee

After going into the Plot Hole, the Nostalgia Critic found himself in what appeared to be his living room. Deciding to check his email, he instead finds a work in progress script named «To Boldly Flee». A man looking very similar to the Critic enters and is surprised to find the character in the room. This is a fictional version of Doug, who addresses himself as The Writer. He explains that the Critic was a character he created for a web series and was once a one note idea. However, the idea evolved, and the character became too complex for Doug to continue writing about. To prove this, Doug brings up the fact that in the 3 years prior, the Critic was a selfish power hungry maniac and now he is a troubled man looking for a way to help his friends.

When Critic sees the front door, Doug explains that outside is reality, where nothing is written and everything could happen. The Critic nearly makes the choice to step outside and abandon his fictional life, but reconsiders and apologizes to the Plot Hole, now bearing the mind and consciousness of Ma-Ti. Ma-Ti, now at peace with the Critic, leaves and the hole becomes out of control. The Critic finds out from the Angry Video Game Nerd that in order to survive, the universe must be consumed by the Hole, which the Critic convinces everyone to enlarge. After they make it safe, the Critic sacrifices himself in order to keep the Hole in check and joins with it, as Doug watches him disappear from existence.

The Review Must Go On

While writing for another episode for Demo Reel Doug Walker has trouble with writing a scene for his new character Donnie. After he (Doug) watches The Odd Life of Timothy Green, he starts acting like the Critic again & soon after sees the Critic again. After talking to his friends about the idea of bringing the Critic back he begins to see the Critic again this time with the Critic telling him that it is time to bring the Nostalgia Critic back to the net but Doug repeatably refuses, saying that the Critic has had it’s run & that he no longer enjoys it.

However, the more Doug thinks on it the more he begins to realize how much he misses being the Nostalgia Critic & at the end decides to bring the Critic back with a few new rules. The first being that we will only put out videos every two weeks so he can keep his reviews fresh. The second is that he will no longer have the time requirements for the movie to be considered «nostalgic» is lifted (meaning that newer movies may also be reviewed, albeit films that were released on any home video format and not ones still in theaters so that he can get the footage he needs).

Finally Doug tells the Critic that the first review must be The Odd Life of Timothy Green, as it is the film that brought the Critic back & he feels like he owes it one.

After this the Critic tells Doug that there is only one thing left to do & Doug goes back to his computer to finish writing the last few pages of Demo Reel.

In the last few pages Donnie encounters the Plot Hole from To Boldly Flee which tells Donnie that he is in fact the reincarnation of the Nostalgia Critic but that with the lessons his learned as Donnie he can go on reviewing the way he did before but this time with a better understanding of what he is doing. Donnie, however, is unsure as that means leaving his friends behind & his has gotten to know them but they all a sure him that they will be fine & encourage him to return as the Nostalgia Critic, which he does at the end, much to the Nostalgia Chick’s annoyance when she sees him online again.

That Guy With The Glasses

That Guy with the Glasses is a website that showcases original entertainment for an audience including video game enthusiasts and movie buffs. It primarily stars Chicago native Douglas Walker aka «That Guy with the Glasses.» The founder and administrator of the site is Michael Michaud, in addition to being the CEO of the parent company Channel Awesome. The site was launched in April 2008 after the original videoes were removed from YouTube following complaints of copyright infringement.

After the 101st episode, Walker said he will only make them if he thinks of a very funny idea, because he has almost run out of ideas and he does not want to run the series into the ground and grow stale. Nostalgia Critic [ ]

Along with the 5 Second Movies, The Nostalgia Critic is the most popular video series created by Walker, in which he plays the titular Nostalgia Critic, a grumpy and easily aggravated character who reviews mostly entertainment from the 1980s and 1990s. His catch-phrase «I’m the Nostalgia Critic. I remember it, so you don’t have to» usually opens and ends each video. Not all reviews are negative, such as the review of Double Dare and the «Top 11 Nostalgic Animated Shows» countdown.

There are several running gags in his videos. For example, whenever a villain in the review is revealed to have a generic goal to «you guessed it, take over the world» (or sometimes take over a city, as in Double Dragon ‘s case), the Critic will interrupt that video by inserting a clip of M. Bison from Street Fighter (played by Raul Julia ) yelling «Of course!» The Critic «dies» on several occasions, and even complains in the Double Dragon review by stating «Is it just me, or have I been dying a lot recently?» Whenever a suggestive or violent scene occurs in a children’s movie, he smiles and says sarcastically, «You know, for kids!» In response to a surreal and pointless scene, the Critic will deem the scene as «A Big-Lipped Alligator Moment» in reference to All Dogs Go to Heaven (also used and created by the Nostalgia Chick). He makes fun of bad actors by saying in a mocking tone «I’m acting!» These running gags are often subverted or lampshaded in later videos.

In August 2008, the Nostalgia Critic sponsored a contest to find someone to play his female foil, the «Nostalgia Chick». The contest ended in a three-way tie between Lindsay Ellis (who reviewed Disney’s Pocahontas ), That Chick with the Goggles (who reviewed Sailor Moon ), and MarzGurl (who reviewed The Last Unicorn ). The Critic ended up giving the title to Ellis, who later adopted the moniker «The Dudette», but still allowed That Chick with the Goggles and MarzGurl to post videos on the site.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, the Critic hosted «Ask That Guy Episode 34».

Nostalgia Critic vs. The Angry Video Game Nerd [ ]

On May 10, 2009, Critic and the Nerd starred in «TGWTG Team Brawl», which was filmed on location in Chicago, IL, and celebrated That Guy With the Glasses’ one-year anniversary. Various personalities from both the Critic and Nerd’s sites participated in a battle between reviewers and gamers. The battle featured numerous references to videos of all the Internet personalities. After the battle, the Critic and the Nerd called truce and later reviewed a documentary about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ‘ «Coming Out of their Shells» concert together.

Ask That Guy with the Glasses [ ]

In «Ask That Guy Episode 30», That Guy with the Glasses asked his own set of questions and invited viewers to submit their own answers. Some of them were later featured in «Ask That Guy: User Edition».

That Guy with the Glasses also appeared in Nostalgia Critic’s review of Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. The Nostalgia Critic explained that he no longer had a beard because he lost a bet with That Guy in which if Barack Obama won the 2008 presidential election (which he did), the Critic would have to shave his beard off. Unfortunately, That Guy also shaved his beard off, thinking he lost a bet about the release date of «Ask That Guy: User Edition» (it was not released until January 4, 2009). It was later found out in an online interview that he simply shaved it so he could be The Joker for Halloween. That Guy also hosted a special in which various members of the site wished their fans Happy Holidays. On April Fool’s Day 2009, That Guy with the Glasses reviewed Monsters vs. Aliens for «Bum Reviews». During «TGWTG Team Brawl», That Guy arranges for everyone to begin working together and takes their group photo.

He typically ends every review with his final verdict and a plea for some change in his Styrofoam cup (shouting out, «Change! You got change? Oh, come on help a guy out will ya?, Come on, change!»). Walker’s actual opinion of the film is presented in the end credits card (e.g. «Seriously though, Indiana Jones was just okay.» or «Seriously though, Watchmen was, um, wierd [sic].»). Chester makes note of the Nostalgia Critic’s negative review of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya in his own review of the same film («I don’t give a crap what the Nostalgia Critic says, this movie is a classic!»). Walker’s actual opinion even contradicts the Critic’s («Seriously though, Haruhi Suzumiya was AWESOME!»).

Theme lyrics [ ]

Each episode consists of Doug Walker playing the opening sequence to a 1990s TV show and singing original lyrics for the music. The lyrics are often made to give the basic summary of the show, and often times either praise or criticize the show itself. Sometimes the lyrics simply correspond to events that occur during the intro. Each video begins with him quickly saying, «Songs that don’t need lyrics but I added them anyway. Ha!» The first show he did this for was X-Men in February 2009.

Melvin, Brother of the Joker is a series that followed Melvin, the failure brother of Heath Ledger’s Joker from The Dark Knight. However the pilot of the series bombed and was met with large amounts of negative reception. It is unlikely that this series will ever return. Walker himself commented on the series’ failure in the «That Guy With The Glasses Anniversary Video» in which he sarcastically stated that all of the fund-raised money went into the production of Melvin, Brother of the Joker and that he «was glad everybody enjoyed it so much».
