The Black Sea is one of the favourite tourist destinations. It is popular with young people, families with children, and elderly couples. The mild climate and wonderful scenery make Black Sea holidays a very pleasant pastime. Another good thing about it is that the waters of the sea are quite safe. Though it is deep (some areas have a depth of 2200 metres), there are no dangerous creatures like sharks or poisonous jelly-fish in its waters. The Black Sea, however, has a lot of mysteries. The name is one of them. It is believed to have appeared in the 13th century, but there are different explanations of the name’s meaning. Some scientists suppose that it means ‘inhospitable’, the others say black denotes the direction — the sea to the north.

What people live on the continent огэ

Задание №6688.
Чтение. ЕГЭ по английскому

Установите соответствие между заголовками 1 — 8 и текстами A — G. Используйте каждую цифру только один раз. В задании один заголовок лишний.

1. Grand heights
2. Life down below
3. Seaside living
4. The wettest settlement
5. Grand metropolis
6. Desert survival
7. Below zero living
8. Dense living

A. The famous island of Aruba is located in the Caribbean Sea. Its approximately 100,000 residents live mostly along the coast, although there are a few inland settlements. Compared with the rest of the Caribbean Islands, the inhabitants of Aruba live in a considerably drier climate. The island is strewn with cactus plants, and it’s relatively flat compared with neighbouring land masses.

B. Although it doesn’t exist anymore, at one point Kowloon Walled City had more people living in it per square kilometre than any other city in the world. Over 30,000 people lived in the settlement, which was only the size of one city block. It was a dangerous place to live, full of health hazards and shoddy building standards. This is why the Chinese government eventually tore it down.

D. Los Angeles may seem like a glamorous place, but its motorways are jam-packed. Still, they’re the best way to get around the city, as the underground, although improved, is not always useful, and the bus system is complicated. Thus, it’s essential to have a vehicle to get around, but to get right across the city could take more than two hours, even driving at high speeds on the motorway.

E. The village of Mawsynram, northeast India, has a special distinction to accompany its name. It receives more rainfall than any other place in the world. On average, almost 12 metres of rain fall in Mawsynram each year. That’s metres, not inches or centimetres. The village lies amongst hills where monsoon winds from southern India converge. It’s highly recommended to bring an umbrella if you visit!

F. Believe it or not, there is life at the very bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Seven miles below the surface, it’s pitch black because no sunlight reaches that far. There is little for anything to eat down there, and temperatures are not far above freezing point. What could possibly exist down there? And yet, this is the home of many small, fish-like creatures.

G. Mount Everest is generally thought to be the tallest mountain in the world, but it depends on how you measure things. If you start from the very bottom of the base of a mountain, even if it’s below the sea, then Hawaii’s Mauna Kea would qualify as the tallest. From the sea floor to its peak, it’s 10,203 metres high, compared to Mount Everest’s 8,848 metres.

What people live on the continent огэ

Задание №13485.
Чтение. ОГЭ по английскому

Установите соответствие между заголовками 1 — 8 и текстами A — G. Используйте каждую цифру только один раз. В задании один заголовок лишний.

1. Crazy but safe
2. An eager fan
3. Everybody wins
4. Mutual success
5. The oldest sport
6. The roots of skating
7. A record breaker
8. Very dangerous

A. People have been skating since the 9th century but the first skates were rather unusual — they were made of animal bones. The earliest bone skates were found in a lake in Sweden. Wooden skates appeared in the 14th century. Iron skates were introduced in the 17th century. The first steel skates were sold in the 1850s. So skating has long been a means of travel in the countries with long cold winters, such as Norway, Sweden, Russia, Finland and Holland. In the 18th century skating became not only a means of travel but also a popular sport.

B. Want some more strange facts? How do you travel and how many kinds of transport do you know? A British woman has travelled from the top to the bottom of Britain using 73 kinds of transport. During her six-week trip she used a dog sled, a canoe, an ambulance, a bicycle, a camel and even a lawn mower. Other transport types included a wheelbarrow, stretcher, shopping trolley, and stilts.

C. Five years ago a Dutch architect built a very unusual house in Africa. It’s shaped like a football. ‘Maybe I am crazy but I have a passion for football,’ he says. He built his house in Malawi because he just likes Africa and would like to stay on the continent forever. Standing on a three-metre-tall brick wall, the architect’s house has become a popular tourist attraction.

D. Zorbing is a new exciting sport. It’s popular in New Zealand, Australia and many other countries. A zorb itself is a huge plastic ball (3-3,5 metres tall) which contains another ball. There is a small entrance hole so you can squeeze into the smaller ball. The ball rolls down the hill and so do you. A zorb can reach up to 50-60 km an hour when it’s rolling down. All people from children to their grandparents can do it. Kids are usually braver than their parents. The adults usually worry a lot and scream loudly though they understand perfectly well that there is a cushion of air between them and the ground, which will protect them.

E. Street hockey is fast and fun, and you don’t need any ice. It’s popular in the USA because you can play it all year and in lots of places: car parks, basketball courts, empty streets. You wear tennis shoes, not ice skates. And you can use a ball or a puck. But the tactics and rules are similar. Professional ice-hockey teams sponsor street hockey for young people. So the teens get great equipment and uniforms. And the ice-hockey teams get future fans.

F. Historians found many facts that running, jumping and throwing had been held in many ancient countries: Egypt, Assyria and of course, Greece. Ancient Olympic games included mostly athletic events. It’s a well-known story about marathon running when a man covered more than forty kilometers, running to tell the people about their victory.

G. In show jumping a horse and a rider must jump several different fences and water pits in a certain period of time. The fences are made of wooden bars and other materials. If the horse knocks down the bars or lands in water, or refuses to jump, or falls — all these are penalized. Also, if a rider does not start within one minute after the signal, he loses the right to compete further.

Lesson 6. № 19. ГДЗ Английский язык 5 класс Верещагина. Кто выполнил упражнение? Поделитесь!

a) Read the text “Continents and Countries” to get some new information about the world around us. Say what the smallest country in the world is.

CONTINENTS AND COUNTRIES
The planet we live on is the Earth. The Earth is round. If you
look at the Earth from space, you will be able to see land, seas,
oceans, continents and even countries. Sometimes you can see them through clouds.1 They look very beautiful when the sun rises or
sets.

There are four oceans and six continents. The continents are:
Eurasia, Africa, Australia, Antarctica, North America and South
America. The continents are very large. Oceans and seas wash them and separate them from each other. There are usually many
countries on each continent. For example, there are more than
40 countries in Africa, but there is only one large country in Australia. It has got almost the same name as the continent. Australia is a very big country, but some countries are small. Iceland is a very small country. It is situated on an island to the north of Europe. Let’s name some countries from each continent: the Russian Federation (Russia), the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy are in Europe; China, India, Vietnam are in Asia; Canada and the United States are in America; Egypt is an African country.

The largest country in the world is the Russian Federation (Russia). The smallest country is the Vatican. All the countries have interesting people, places, animals and plants.

People of different nationalities live in these countries. They
speak different languages. Each country has its national flag, anthem and its own traditions and customs.

b) Read the text again and say if the following statements are
“True”, “False” or “Not stated”.
1. The Earth is a beautiful planet.
2. From space you can see cities, towns and small villages on the Earth.
3. Africa is larger than Australia.
4. Oceans separate continents from each other.
5. The largest country in the world is Russia.
6. The smallest country in the world is Iceland.
